Today, at Developer_Direct, we showed off a fresh look at Forza Motorsport and how we’re making the game look real, sound real and feel real through our cars, tracks and audio that deliver a generational leap in fidelity, immersion and realism. Forza Motorsport is coming later this year to Xbox Series X|S, Windows, Steam and Cloud Gaming (Beta) and we’d like to tell you all about it. Buckle up.

Cars Are More Dynamic Than Ever

Forza Motorsport will feature over 500 real-world cars at launch for you to collect, race and customize using more than 800 unique upgrades and custom modifications. We’re also delivering the most modern race cars that we have ever featured on our roster.

In addition to the number of cars, we have also made improvements to how they look by using a spectrophotometer, which captures multiple data points of light behavior on a surface. With this new sourcing technique, our paint models have a more realistic light response across colors, metal flake and gloss levels. Cars now have context-aware damage and dirt buildup that is authentic and unique to each vehicle, gathering more in the low-pressure areas like recesses and alcoves.

We’re also creating a more fun and rewarding driving experience thanks to the advances we’ve made in our physics simulation, which are greater than Forza Motorsport 5, 6, and 7 combined.

Forza Motorsport - Cars

Enhanced Tracks and New Locations

Forza Motorsport will start with 20 environments featuring multiple track layouts for players to master. In addition to fan favorites, you can race on five all-new-to-Motorsport locations including our first in South Africa – Kyalami. Because of the level of detail that went into the tracks through photogrammetry and laser scanned images, the team was able to depict 10 times more realistic detail including highly detailed vegetation and overgrowth. With all the cutting-edge visuals, including tens of thousands of fully animated 3D spectators, each player will feel immersed in the spectacle of racing.

Also new to Forza Motorsport, the game will have dynamic time of day with weather including track temperatures, wet driving surfaces and rubbering in for each track so that no two laps ever play the same. With all of the new features and detail in our track environments, Forza Motorsport will be a generationally new experience with a truly incredible level of authenticity.

More Immersive Sound Experience

We also partnered with Windows Sonic and Dolby Atmos to create a more immersive audio composition for this next generation of Forza Motorsport. Each audio system was rebuilt to create an immersive soundscape and deliver a new level of sonic depth and authenticity to our players. For Forza Motorsport, this is a legacy spanning 20 years of ongoing development, and we continue to utilize the most up-to-date technology to enhance our car sounds at the highest fidelity possible. This includes improved tire and suspension audio, as well as exhausts and turbos that change as they’re modified to sound like their real-world counterparts. New features like our regional track announcer will allow players to hear experiences in the game like never before.

This is just a small peek inside for what is to come later this year. We are excited to share more details in the coming months on Forza Motorsport. For all the latest updates, check out the Forza blog.

The game looks and sounds insane. But shame that they didn't announce the launch date. And nice to here that they made bigger upgrades to the physics than the last 3 titles combined. Hope they go more in depth tomorow on the stream and talk more about specific stuff. 500 cars is nice at launch but i hoped for more tracks tbh. Still im hyped, i hope its not too far away.

4k 60 fps with ray tracing. Like why? Focus on making it look next gen before wasting much precious GPU power rendering pixels and nonsense RT effects that dont even make it look better than Forza Horizon 5 and GT7, two last gen games.

I am baffled by next gen devs targeting native 4k game after game. We are literally three years in. This aint even launch window. Its not cross gen. Why target such high resolutions with RT reflections and GI no less?

The 4K 60fps ray traced PR has already me suspect. That is not possible unless most of the lighting is baked I think VRS is being used so the 4K is probably more like 1440P but still that is impressive if RT is used. May be they should remove RT and improve gfx. Not many people care about RT reflection during gameplay. Tomorrow is the Forza monthly so hopefully we will get a gameplay video.

Yeah, the 20 environments was disappointing. I was hoping they'd bring every fictional track from all the previous games since it's been 6 years since FM7.

No release date announced isn't great, but I still think they should hold this until after summer and polish the hell out of it in the meantime.

Game looks great, clearly reusing old car models again but honestly the cars in FM7 were mostly above average. I hope they at least went over them all with the touch-up brush. I see the "Forza aero" has made it's return along with terrible looking Forza roll cages that don't follow the car's rooflines. Paint looks really nice though, as do the materials which have clearly been upgraded over FM5-7.

The environments are a massive leap over Forza Motorsport 7, both in terms of trackside objects but also far distance scenery. Trees are usually the first thing people poo-poo on in racing games but from what I can see all the foliage looks pretty good. Full day/night and weather cycles on every track are nice to see. I hope the things they touched on like the track rubbering in are based on actual cars passing over them and not just "20 laps = this much rubbering in" regardless of number of cars or temperatures. I'll wait and see on that. I'm guessing marbles didn't make it into the game if they haven't mentioned them yet.

Star here is the fact they've got it running on the XSX console at 4k/60 with ray tracking enabled, and it does not appear to be the same mediocre in-game ray tracing Playground is running in Forza Horizon 5 on PC (no environment, no shadows, no traffic cars, etc) Given T10's history, 4K/60 will be locked solid. I'm very interested to see if this title will use direct storage and support DLSS on PC at launch. With that kind of performance as a baseline I expect I should be able to run this really well despite my aging hardware.

The game looked amazing and I have no doubt it will be jaw dropping and sound amazing, but I'm most curious how it will play in regards to FM7 which I liked a lot. The biggest knock against FM7 was the shoddy career mode. It seems there is a focus on career mode with this outing, and how much I play this game is going to rest entirely how good that mode is.
