Fixel, the developer of the legendary emulator FreeDO, has announced the next ODE for 3DO, both in FZ1 and XBUS formats. Price and release date yet to be announced (it's probably coming out on late-2022). Until now the only solution was the highly expensive Mnemo's ODE, that increased the price from ~$120 to $400-500 over the years, not to mention you have to pay in cryptocrap.

  • Open Source Software and Hardware (licenses still being decided)
  • Upgradable menu and firmware w/ ODE device driver for PortfolioOS to allow communication with the ODE from homebrew
  • Multiple versions
  • FZ-1 CDROM drive replacement [Only compatible with FZ-1]
  • XBUS / XPort: The expansion port found on all retail systems. No need to remove CDROM drive. [Compatible with any console]
  • FZ-10, Goldstar, Sanyo CDROM drive replacements (internal install) likely to come later
  • USB Storage (single partition)
  • SDCard (SDXC) (single partition)
  • Filesystems supported: FAT32, EXFAT
  • Backwards compatible replacement for FZ-EM256 memory expansion (XPort version only)
  • CDROM image formats supported: .bin/.cue, .iso, .nrg
  • Support for music CD images: CDDA; .cue + .wav (44100Hz @ 16bit stereo)
  • XPort version should work with devices with MNEMO CDROM replacement ODEs
