they still shouldn't have complied if they were this incapable of it
if they didn't for 10 years why make it now? probably because they saw they could milk the fanbase by putting out any type of garbage they could think of
The Final Fantasy "fanbase" remains the most toxic group of people online I've ever interacted with. They supposedly hate every single new entry, but by god they buy them all day one and then complain about them for 10 years.

What at all does that have to do with the legitimate complaints people have about this game? Hell this shit isn't even true, plenty of FFVII fans seem to like this game, regardless of the changes.

It's almost like generalizing an entire group based of of its loudest segment is a stupid thing to do.

Fucking worst bait and switch in gaming history. Promised a very faithful remake, just expanded upon, yet we got a reboot instead. So, the next entry won't be Remake 2, but will have its own subtitle since it is no longer following the OG story. Sadly, too many fanboys are not only going along with it, but defending this blatantly false advertisement.

Glad I read spoilers and didn't give them my money.

Learn how to read then, they never said it was a 1:1 faithful recreation, they said certain segments are faithfully recreated, while others are a new take on it. A lot of this ignorance come from people who don't know how to read, and then get burned by it, unsurprisingly. Square Enix goal with these remakes was never to make everyone happy (your delusional if you believe that), their goal was to recreate the game for the largest audience possible, and the results prove they've succeeded, your personal feelings are irrelevant.

Lol, stop making excuses for false advertising like some fanboy. They specifically said it was going to be "very faithful," but expanded. Those were their words, not some assumption people made. They lied. 75% of the game fit that bill, but the last 25% went off on some KH BS tangent. And it looks like the next games in the series will continue on that tangent, not stick to the OG story. That's why there was no Pt. 1 in the title. The remake portion is done, they're doing their own thing now. Again, this is not what they promised.

And what results? The only thing we know for sales is from the UK. It only sold half of what FFXV did. We'll have to see how the rest of the world, and the following weeks, turn out.

They literally listened to what was told to them.

This game was advertised as a proper remake of the original with the story intact, it's not. You have no grounds to insult anyone on that, and it just looks like you're lashing out at people for not feeling the same way you did.

I'm happy you liked it, but I didn't get the game they sold me.

How is that a lie? That's exactly what they did, "expanded" can't possibly be "faithful", unless you're ignorant?

And you talk about reading comprehension? Geez.

A very faithful, but expanded, remake is like how the game starts. The major plot points remain the same, while things get expanded on. Like Jesse and Wall Market. You don't have ghosts in the game that represent the OG storyline get defeated so the devs can take the story in whatever direction they want and introduce some time travel/alternate dimension KH BS when it wasn't in the OG game.

This was not the remake they promised, this is a reboot. Something SE hid from fans.

Definition of a remake:

make (something) again or "differently".

Yeah you do lack reading comprehension, I rest my case.

I'm honestly keeping an open mind about the whole FF7 remake. I'm intrigued as to what is going to come next, and how the entire thing meshes together. Sure the writing and...the end of the first part of remake was uh...very unexpected and kinda jank and not the...best, but I want to see where they're gonna go from here on out to the end.

I'm not saying what they've done so far with all the changes or modifications they have made to the story is fantastic or riveting, I'm just interested in seeing how it all plays out in the end.

I'm sure as fuck not gonna go whiny simp bitch Yoshichan style, because that would just be stupid and I would expect and welcome people laughing at me big time if I ever fucking went that mental and just plain retarded over a fucking video game.

Saddest part though is...best girl Jessie is ded.

When we talk about remakes in the entertainment industry, this is the definition we are talking about. "A remake is a production of a film, television series, video game, or similar form of entertainment that is based upon an earlier production. A remake tells the same story as the original but uses a different cast and may alter the theme or target audience."

Notice the key words there "tells the same story as the original." And when the developer purposely uses the words "very faithful to the original," it's completely understandable that fans are expecting it to be faithful. They definitely should not be expecting the developer to insert their own fanfic at the end of the game which alters the original story and that will take the sequels in a completely different direction than the original game. Any excuses for this false advertising is simply fanboyism.

So don't play it. They told everyone for 10 years that they didn't want to make FFVII, because it would take them so long, and be so big.

Well everyone still begged them for it and here we are.

So why did they make it even bigger?

Anybody remember when they remade Lufia II and turned it into an action RPG? They never learn.

Even remakes of video games, movies, other media are never completely identical to their earlier works. Maybe they wanted a honest representation of the original FFVII when they originally set to remake it but the more they added stuff and expanded, the more it started to differ greatly. That’s just like how they originally stated no new(new as in they weren’t in the FFVII ps1 game) characters yet you have characters present that wasn’t in the original FFVII cast.

I haven’t finished the game so I can’t judge the ending but I am enjoying the game thus far and really enjoying the more personal relationship that Cloud develops with Wedge, Biggs and Jessie. If you don’t like it, don’t play it, but I feel like any fan should give it a shot.

It’s like FFVII original was a butter knife scraping Midgar, you get an idea of what it is, you see a little of it, but the remake feels like a sharp knife stabbing deep into what Midgar is and exploring it and showing us what it really is.

Sorry if that analogy sucks. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

if people wanted to play the original they wouldn't ask for a remake but instead a new game like ff16
the original is hard to play because of the dated graphics so people wanted a remake to experience the same story/world with updated graphics and maybe gameplay nobody wanted this alternate dimension time travel fanfic butchered story
If graphics were really the only issue that some had with the original then as someone mentioned before that the FFVII pc version with mods fixed this first the most part. For me I was hoping the remake would allow us to see more than what they was allowed due to limiting technology and capabilities of the PS1. A expanded, bigger world.

So why did they make it even bigger?

Because they got tired of people asking them for a remake.

For years they said that they couldn't do it because it would be such a huge undertaking but then they decide to turn one game into three games by putting in lots of filler. You don't see the inconsistency here?

Nah, even with the best mods the original still looks pretty dated. Also, that's exactly what they were promising us man. The game was first introduced as the promise finally being made, the promise of FF7 remade.

No, no. Dude is saying that if remaking the original would be too big an issue, why did they wind up making a Remake project that promises to be even bigger?

Why is it considered filler material exactly? Because it didn’t appear on the original? Not written by the original writer?

And you expected a 1:1 replica of the original FFVII but just in shinier graphics? I’m sure you expected some changes at least, right? We all knew the battle system was changing, we knew they had planned on making Midgar more exploitable and fleshed out.

I think he's referring to the areas of the game that are segments from the original stretched out to last much longer than they did in the original.

No actually, in fact I was ok with most of the changes right until the last chapter where it just got way too off the plot. For the most part I loved the game until the end.

What I had expected was mostly what I got.

Yes, is that not the definition of filler in this case? Extra content thrown in to extend the original story and game?
We all knew the battle system was changing,

...and that makes it ok?

Telling people of a bad thing does not make that bad thing ok.

What people wanted was a game with these graphics but the same battle system. Is that so hard to understand? FF7 has been a beloved game with a turn based battle system for 23 years.

Nope, it couldn't be done any other way. All I see is some people here making excuses to validate their wrong assumptions, using words like they "promised us", they "lied to us", "I wanted a 1:1 faithful recreation" waaah waaah :messenger_loudly_crying:, when SquareEnix made no such promises. It's a pathetic display, really.

I personally LOVE what they did to the story and the ending, this is something I expected Yoko Taro would do, I was pleasantly surprised.

No matter how good or bad part 2 end up being I can still respect what they did with this game.

FUCKING LIE! Nobody asked for such drastic changes. I mean, if you take ANY JRPG and change its story AND genre (so that it is basically not even a "JRPG" anymore) you fucked up in my book!

The people who have been asking for a "remake" of Final Fantasy 7 for the last 2 decades have always been asking for "just Final Fantasy 7 with improved graphics (and maybe better translation)". So YES, everyone MEANT "remaster" instead of "remake", even before the gaming communi.... I mean the SHILLS started making harsh distinctions between the two.

That's been the whole consensus for the last 20 years. If you've been a long time gamer, you know this is THE TRUTH.

RIP "Squaresoft"

Nah, people having been wanting FF7 as an action RPG since before the first game came out.
