Great seals for ghost of tsushima DC
And also xbox series x doing great work in Japan 👍
The original GoT's for PS4 was something of a hit. Sales for GoT's for 2020:

[PS4] Ghost of Tsushima <ADV> (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2020.07.17} (¥6.900) - 473.612 / 211.206

PS5 close to 1 million units sold in Japan. Maybe in a couple of weeks will reach the milestone.
It's selling 12 k a week at this point. At the current trajectory it would take months.

Edit: My bad did not include the DE sales.

Very nice sales for Xbox and not bad hardware or software overall considering this week is basically post-holiday.

GoT sequel could be one of PS5's biggest games in Japan.

Sequel has the potential to be a sales monster. Very positive buzz around the internet, very little toxicity compared to some other games....
There's normally an uproar of toxicity whenever games are inclusive or diverse but I think that will die away over time. Ghost's setting does help it have more success in Japan than some of Sony's other first party franchises.

These evergreens on Switch are happening more frequently than they did in the DS/Wii era.

Wait, what?

DS/Wii era was Evergreen Grove. You'd see on the charts Mario Kart, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon/Pokemon, and some of the Wii Mii games, then a massive falloff before finding the rest of the offerings. It was a time of 10s of millions of copies and then hundreds Ks. (Not that this is totally dissimilar from other platforms or countries; if GTA5 isn't in the top charts right now, 8 years later, it will be again in November.) It was one of the downsides of the Wii and DS markets, the blockbusters were so successful and the hardware was moving so fast that it felt like fertile ground for other titles to find their success story, but ultimately, Nintendo fans were happy with Mario Kart and Wii Sports and then a couple other titles. (And it's one of the worrying things about Switch, that aside from indies and some multiplayer games, developers are not interested anymore in finding ways to bring their "AAA brands" to this massively successful platform like they did back in the day with offshoots and creative ports... although the good news about these Famitsu lists that contradicts those worries is that there are lots of Switch games in the mix on the high end of the charts, if not all Switch games in the recent weeks, and new Switch titles do tend to chart in their first few weeks to have their moments among the evergreens.)

Switch is much younger than Wii and DS's years on the market
and already has:

(2) 30 million plus selling games
(4) 20 million plus selling games
(5) 10 million plus selling games

In comparison

DS had:

(1) 30 million plus selling game
(2) 20 million plus selling games
(7) 10 million plus selling games

Wii had:

(4) 30 million plus selling games (all mass market console bundles, while none of Switch's are)
(3) 20 million sellers
(2) 10 million sellers

So relative to the Switch's age, it's on pace to surpass the Wii and DS's # of evergreens combined.

That OG Xbox love in Japan! ❤️ Tecmo and Sega keeping the dream alive back then. I remember new Tecmo and Sega releases would even debut in the Top 10 back then. There was even a decent sized Halo CE and Halo 2 community in Japan back then. The X360 had some traction, but then there was the dark days of shit management and the Xbox One.......

Xbox S was in stock today and I even saw people buying it. If PS5 has a bad week then there's a chance Xbox can outsell it next week.
There will be a huge meltdown if xbox will win next week lol

I remember when xbox360 used to outsell ps3 back in 2008 and early 2009

The reaction was so funny back then 🤣

We as in xbox chads. We're only getting outsold 2:1 instead of 10:1 because sony chuds are shipping all consoles to the US and UK to completely choke xbox out of its two strongest markets.
aren't a lot of Japan sold consoles (PS5 I mean) are also shipped to china to be resold there? I remember this was the news on why not than many games are sold in comparison to number of consoles are sold.

Xbox S always looked like a good fit for Japan. The price is right, the hardware quality is good, the size is right (yes, this is a thing) but MS botched the messaging from the start, especially their TGS showing was exceptionally bad. They really should've played up the price, the 360 Japan link and the backwards compatibility. A promotional tie-in with Square or Capcom or Konami or SEGA or FUCKING ANYONE also would have gone a long way. Unfortunately whoever is doing their Japanese marketing is a bit of a numpty.

I guarantee thats whats happening. It would explain the absurdly low software sales numbers from the PS5 and the inexplicable rise of xbox hardware despite zero compelling software for that market. Scalpers are giving people in here the false impression that xbox is on the rise in Japan.

Does the size actually matter? When original Xbox came out everyone was saying things like “Japanese people have small homes and Xbox is too big”. But then PS3 was nearly identical in size to OG Xbox and Japanese gamers greatly preferred that over the much smaller Xbox 360 (which BTW also had a much better selection of Japanese games for the first couple years).

They are directly selling ps5's into China now. Not at launch though.
