It remains to be seen how all the upcoming games do and if anything gets announced or delayed but Third Party support is really accelerating & games can definitely surpass my expectations by a big amount.

Interesting how Bandai Namco is a long time parter to Nintendo as a developer, but its own publishing output on Switch is decreasing year over year.
Harada is happy to take Nintendo's money, but believes that Namco's own success lies in expanding into the West. He thinks you can only do that with high end graphics.

Harada is the CEO?
It's weird because most of their output is not on the high graphics side either.

He's been in charge of Bandai Namco Studios since 2019, and it's clear that supporting Switch with new games is not really part of his plan. Hopefully he changes his mind.

Bandai Namco will be behind both Konami & Capcom, it's their decisions to not make Switch a central part of the plans and by providing late ports for many of their titles, they've allowed other smaller publishers to start eating into their market share:

This year will be the first time we are likely to see Bandai end up below 1 million units, as I have many doubts about both Scarlet Nexus and Tails of Arise in Japan, while it's likely Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot to launch in September on the Switch as a very late port is maybe going to clear 100K but not much beyond that. So far their best selling game of 2021 is Little Nightmares 2 which across the Switch and PS4 is approaching 100K units.

Overall had they at least chased multiplat same day releases for DBZ franchise they would have been in a much better position right now. Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 on the Switch actually outsold all their Dragon Ball PS4 games. There is also a lot of other PSV franchises whose audience transitioned to Switch rather than PS4, so those have seen a steep decline from the PS3/PSV era to being exclusive to the PS4.

If Scarlet Nexus & Tails end up under performing, Harada's time in charge of their gaming division might not be that long, as there is one more project that's apparently their biggest investment and the higher ups will start to view it as a major risk in the current PlayStation ecosystem climate.

It's definitely odd. Switch has a huge global audience for Japanese AA games and yet BN, the king of Japanese AA games, isn't fully supporting it.

It's definitely odd. Switch has a huge global audience for Japanese AA games and yet BN, the king of Japanese AA games, isn't fully supporting it.

Its shaping up to be their worst year in Japan, the only rumored Switch games for the rest of the year are Kakarot & Digimon Survive .While judging from Resident Evil: Village and Nier Replicant, I'm not expecting huge break-out hits for Scarlet Nexus and Tails of Arise, if they manage to surpass 200K I would be pleasantly surprised. Overall considering the size of the company, it's definitely a subpar year in the works, as Bandai will fall behind Konami for a second year in a row, while also will be overtaken by Capcom. They should perform on par with Square unless they reveal some DQ related game for the Switch for this year.
The main question is whether Marvelous might end up ahead of Bandai as well, so far Sakuna, Olive Town and Rune Factory 5 are likely to provide Marvelous with a very strong annual result that could very well surpass 1 million.

Bandai Namco 2021:
PS4/PS5 - Little Nightmares 2(Q1), Scarlet Nexus(Q2) & Tails of Arise(Q3)
Switch - Little Nightmares 2(Q1), Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot(rumored)

Sega/Atlus 2021:
PS4/PS5 - Lost Judgement(Q3)
Switch - Shin Megami Tensei V(Q2 or Q3)

Konami 2021:
PS4/PS5 - nothing
Switch - Baseball Spirits(Q3), Yu-gi-oh(Q3)

Capcom 2021:
PS4/PS5 - Resident Evil:Village(Q2), Ace Attorney(Q3)
Switch - Monster Hunter Rise(Q1), Monster Hunter Stories 2(Q3), Ace Attorney(Q3)

Koei Tecmo 2021:
PS4/PS5 - Samurai Warriors 5(Q2), Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires(2021?)
Switch - Samurai Warriors 5(Q2), Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires(2021?)

Its shaping up to be their worst year in Japan, the only rumored Switch games for the rest of the year are Kakarot & Digimon Survive . While judging from Resident Evil: Village and Nier Replicant, I'm not expecting huge break-out hits for Scarlet Nexus and Tails of Arise, if they manage to surpass 200K I would be pleasantly surprised.

Marvelous 2021:
PS4/PS5 - nothing
Switch - Olive Town(Q1), Rune Factory 5(Q2), No More Heroes 3(Q3)

Square Enix 2021:
PS4/PS5 - Nier Replicant(Q2), Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade(Q2), Neo: The World Ends With You(Q3)
Switch - Bravely Default 2(Q1), Neo: The World Ends With You(Q3)
Bandai Namco has said they have a Super Robot Wars anniversary title coming to Switch/PS4 this year and they have Idolmaster coming to PS4 too.

On the KT front I'd add Winning Post 9 and SE have DQ Infinity Strash coming 2021 (but no platforms yet I don't think.)

I hope we get some good third party Japanese announcements at E3.

Could the Switch even run Tales of Arise at 60fps?
Not sure about the framerate, but Namco has been able to bring other PS4 games to Switch. Obviously each game is different, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a Switch port of Arise in two years or so.

That depends on how the game was developed. But based on what we've seen of the game and how other ports performed, I would say a downgrade aiming at 30 fps is totally possible.
The genre is full of 30fps games (like FF7R), so I don't see a problem with that.

But my comment was targeted at the general Bandai Namco output, not a single game.

Japan PS Digital sales ranking was posted today if anybody is interested.
Returnal was #1 even being sold one day in the month.
Even MLB The Show 2021 did good.

So we have PS5 scalpers, but no Switch nor Xbox scalpers?
Interesting...:messenger_winking:
The most impressive narrative is that scalpers are holding the console for themselves and that is why it is not selling games.
I mean if scalpers surprise sells these console to actual consumers they will buy games.

That is the only way of thinking in this thread.

Also, somehow scalpers are hoarders, they bought the consoles to keep for themselves they aren't reselling them.
The logic in threads like this is amusing, reaching the MS will buy Sega thread level.

The theory wasn't that scalpers were hoarders, it was that scalpers were shipping consoles outside Japan. This would mean that the amount of hardware in Japan wasn't as large as reported, and so the software sales aren't as bad as they look.

The alternative is that all those PS5 systems are in Japan, which would mean (even if we factor in digital) that software sales are as bad as they look.

Personally I think the line-up is the reason for poor software sales, not scalpers.

I have to admit that, besides what was offered on PS+, I only have Demon Souls for PS5. I'm slowly working on my PS4 backlog.
There is a lot of crossplay games and usually the PS4 version is cheaper.

The question stands, Switch isn't being scalped at all, right? Only PS5.
Also on the DS days people bought diferent colors of DSs, has that changed with the Switch?

No asian country is interested on Xbox though... :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I believe Switch was being scalped this time year when supply was very very low, but right now there seems to be enough Switches to meet demand. Should there be some sort of issue in the future that majorly cuts into supply, Switch could go back to being scalped again. But given that Nintendo has secured supply for over 25 million this fiscal year (and wants to secure 30 million) that should be enough.

If we're generous and assume Day 1 digital of Returnal was twice of Week 1 physical, that means no PS5 game sold more than 12k digitally all month. So much for digital saving PS5 software sales.

You'll have to ascend as the next Buddha to be that generous.

A very generous guess would put that number to 3.25k digitally all month.

Yeah, 5k or under is a more realistic ceiling. I was just trying to throw a bone for Sony stans lol. really disastrous software sales from Sony, I hope it picks up before FF16, which I don't want to flop.

Just realised Bod is banned. Does someone want to make the thread for last weeks numbers?

Anyway Ps5 stole the show with an impressive 31k sold. I hope Sony shipped at least 50k for the RE8 launch.
