Is there a mind share shift going in Japan now? Nintendo may have waited too long. Having said that, one big game probably puts them back on the weekly charts.

Maybe not, but this was a problem with Wii to Wii U, they waited way way too long to launch Wii U.

FF16 will break them. You can feel it they wan't it to fail.

I haven't really followed discourse on japanese sales on ibf that closeley, so no idea where this hate comes from.
I don’t think FF16 will do that well in Japan but it’s going to do great worldwide. IBF has a heavy Nintendo slant because media create threads have been a safe haven from negative Nintendo news for the past 10 years. So it’s become a place where people with strong Nintendo bias congregate. It’s still a great forum for sales age stats, it’s just not particularly pleasant in their MC threads.
There's not really any hate. I just checked their Media Create thread for this week and there are plenty of positive comments about PS5 hardware and Hogwarts performance.
Last known sales numbers we have for FF7R was 5 million units shipped and it flopped so badly on both steam(based on CCU figure) and epic games.

Square Enix is really dumb for limiting FF franchise sales potential by releasing it on a single platform this time around.

Mainline Final Fantasy franchise is no longer the top tier 3rd party seller like it used to be. Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evils are the top dog on the market. Now with single platform strategy, Final Fantasy is closer to Persona franchise in term of sales.
FF games are going to heavily lean towards PS anyway, so having Sony cover a portion of the development costs should work out well for SE.

It's not really a mindshare shift, just that PS5 supply has increased and it recently had a game (Hogwarts) overperform expectations.

Hardware sales is still good for a system nearing 6 years lifetime on the market.

Another thing to keep in mind is the software domination of Switch.

2023 ytd software thanks to Nocturnal from IB.

I'll never understand those Fucking losers lmao

Now apparently every PS5 sold in Japan is being exported to China & South Korea 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Maybe not, but this was a problem with Wii to Wii U, they waited way way too long to launch Wii U.
Another big issue was launching a new home console with HD in mind but only 5/6 years more advanced than the Wii, rather than really making a ballpark for the present day.

Since the Switch successor won't really have that inertial issue, supposedly staying in the hybrid lane they've carved out, only the marketing and timing issues remain. Hopefully they've at least taken the time out granted by the chip shortage to go for a more sophisticated build for the followup.

Profits mean more than revenue. If Sony makes more money but spends even more in the process what good is it?
Profit's for 3rd parties. Nintendo whore them on their system because most games sold are not 3rd parties. On PlayStation 3rd parties reap the profit's.

So in the financials all those PSN game's sold count as revenue for Sony but most of it doesn't go to them.

Revenue benefits 3rd party, they don’t care about sonys profit margins.
Nintendo and Sony have a different accounting for third party revenues.

Nintendo only counted 30% platform fees that they got in sales while Sony counted 100% total sales which is weird for revenue accounting. That's why SIE profits margin is too low despite high revenue.

Operating profits is the only way to compare both companies since there are differences in revenue accounting.

Nintendo have been killing it in Japan for years and Sony have done very well despite supply issues (partly down to correctly assuming that the Japanese market is safe for them, so sending PS5s elsewhere where there is competition).

Can't we just be happy that they are both doing well?

I just view it as a Nintendo forum mostly which is ok, it has the best research typically regarding all game sales.

Just don’t ever expect a lot of positivity around playstation or anything associated with it
Wut?

When IB was created, it appeared reality had a Nintendo bias.

Best selling hardware for like 3 years running in the two biggest markets for games in the world.
Record breaking software sales, etc.

That's not bias, that was just the numbers that were being reported.

The only time things were negatively spoken about in regards to Playstations outlook, were in the media create threads where things were looking poorly for PS.

Two consecutive generations where the hardware units declined. Longstanding ips were significantly underperforming.

Like, yeah Playstation was doing great overall but in Japan it was sloping downwards big-time. That's not bias, that was numbers.

People apparently just couldn't handle it, and would then rally around Playstations overseas success as if to stifle discussion about how they weren't doing much for the Japanese domestic audience.

You think if the internet and NPD reports were widely used in the 90s people would've been like "yeah Saturn is doing terribly in USA but in Japan it's very successful" and not be corrected as to what the actual topic of discussion was?

It's laughable that honestly speaking about a specific market has so many people so very thin-skinned.
