Yikes at that PS5 software.
Even if we exclude the digital edition, that would be an attach rate of 0.3

Not even the most optimistic digital ratio can save this picture.

Source?

Because Famitsu didn’t release anything like that... unless you are using the weekly internet TOP sellers to make that list... inaccurate and lacking several data.

Also, the theory around PS5 low software being caused by backwards compatibility falls short of evidence.
Software is in decline even if you sum PS4+PS5

Apparently these were shared by the parent company of Famitsu, the their President Hirokazu Hamamura shared this info and it has now come out.

So the data compiled from TOP30 only is actually not far from the overall data?

Pretty much, at the moment I don't really expect PS5 software to make up more than 5% for the rest of the year unless some major titles get announced.
It's also fairly obvious that the Hardware sales reported by Famitsu don't correspond to the actual size of the audience in Japan, even accounting for a generous 50% digital attach rates PS4's 800K software sales are more than twice as high.
Obviously the most rational explanation is that the PS5 hardware is being re-sold in markets where it's not officially launched like China. Gray market in China can certainly make up of 100K of the system sales in Japan, its a similar case for the Switch where it's likely at least 2 million hardware sales in Japan probably ended up on the Chinese gray market. Niko Partners had theorized that 3 million Switch units have been sold on the Chinese Gray market before Tencent announced 1 million sold official units.

I know people in the other thread were bashing Chris for his stance on PS5 tie ratio for physical games but this pretty much proves him right (or more likely that he has access to this data already).

Both seems to be the TOP30 compilation.

Both seems to be the TOP30 compilation.
The President of Enterbrain said that up to the end of March PS5 physical software sales were 180,000. He has access to way more than the top 30 (and we'll see more when the White Book comes out).

To add further evidence, the totals shown in the OP are different from titles which dropped out of the top 30 at some point.

Im not sure if this theory with units going to China adds up.

That didn't impact Switch software sales. It would have to be a great % of PS5 units to significantly impact software sales as we see.
Why are Scalpers sending so many units to China instead of reselling at a higher price right there in Japan if domestic demand is still high?

Sounds like a big stretch to me.

Ok.
I took all my time to compilation the PS5 sales data from Famitsu TOP30... only PS5 to cross the numbers.

Results.

2020: 61908
2021: 40748

TOTAL: 102.656

With that I can draw some conclusions.

  • The Twitter data has about 70% more units sold than TOP30 Famitsu so that should be the actual based in the full Famitsu internal tracking.
  • This site uses the TOP30 to made the Yearly Ranking: https://sites.google.com/site/gamedatalibrary/games-by-year/2020-top-100
  • Cris is using the TOP30 data.
  • The graph below is based in TOP30 and the guy didn't understand the total sales... so he missed a 20-30k.

A bit more...

Demon's Souls and Miles Morales crossed 40k units in Week 11.
Taking the account there are more 3 weeks to finish the quarter.

We can assume with 100% that Demon's Souls + Miles Morales accounts for over 50% of physical PS5 sales.

The article states that Miles Morales sold about 46,000 (as stated by the speaker, not sure how recent that figure is from) so it does seem to be doing about 1,000 copies a week

Yeap... it fits my data with more 3 or 4 weeks of data below the TOP30 (I'm not sure if they include Week 14 or not in the chart... that week is half March / half April).

Edit - I just checked they don't include the Week 14.

Week 11 Miles Morales: 43692
Week 11 Demon's Souls: 40489

Those two are definitely the top 2 PS5 games, I wonder what 3-5 are.

Sorry for the bump. I have one quick question.
These are only the numbers for the retail/physical sales, right? So digital sales are not included?
