Good news for us PS5 owners but meaningless for pc/XBox folks. It has to be said, Sony are really fucking the pooch with their lack of mod support.

I’m guessing this is related to why Fallout 76 doesn’t have 4K60fps support on console yet. Maybe it’s actually on the way.

I’m in for another round.

"I hate it when people use the fact that I have never spend a day working in game development against me while I criticize actual game developers and call their efforts "Lazy", because they do not meet the imaginary standards that I have set for consoles."

Your "30 years of gaming experience" mean nothing. You have no experience in game development, and I know this because if you had worked in Game development, you'd have known that the term "lazy" is the single most inappropriate way to label video game developers. You have no idea how games are actually made or developed. You repeat vague phrases that you have heard on other places of the internet such as "it's around 2080 level" without having any clue what that actually means. Even if we continue this conversation in laymens terms, an RTX 2080TI does not run Fallout 4k/60FPS with no framedrops. You're completely underestimating how much effort it would take to get Fallout 4 running at 4k/60 FPS on consoles ,if it's even possible without severe compromise. Hmm, I wonder where that misunderstanding is coming from?
You over complicate it.
And I don’t use term lazy directly to devs. You should know.
Lazy more like let’s make business decision to make least work possible to earn most again.

There is nothing to know how games are developed just as you know how movies are made. We know how it goes. I work in Corporation and I know perfectly well how it works.
Dev itself is not something crazy either. I am not a programmer or modeller but it’s not something impossible to imagine….
I am not talking about minute details of everyday work. Just a gist of it.
And yea. 30years in the hobby really gives you an overview. I am not saying I can go make a game. You are using my words.

Edit: this doesn’t matter anyway. This game is not going back into full dev. Nobody is going to make new models or scripting. Just port to ps5 native maybe. We don’t know

And based on what credentials do you make this statement?

"Yea so that game development thing? It's really not that crazy difficult, guys. It's pretty simple, really. I mean, I'm not a programmer or a modeler. In fact, I don't even work in game development, but I can imagine that it's not all that difficult. Based on my imagination, this game should easily hit 4k/60 fps on modern consoles, no problem. I know exactly what these consoles can do.

How I know? Oh, well I've spent 30 years putting cartridges/disks into system and then pressing buttons to making things happen on a screen. I'm basically an expert at game development by now. Surprised they haven't hired me to fix this mess, really."

I have FO4 on PS4, but in the end couldn't get past the 30fps and never really got that far.

Last year, I tried again on pc game pass and it was one of my favourite games of recent years.

I bought the Far Harbour DLC and thoroughly enjoyed it.

However, the pc version did have some issues.

Performance was largely stable, except for a few instances where big explosions would suddenly tank the frame rate to a slide show and it would often freeze.

That aside, it was ok - regardless, any improvements are more than welcome.

Fallout 4 will receive a free next-gen update in 2023 for XSX/S, PS5 and PC
- performance (high FPS) & quality (4K) modes
- bug fixes
- bonus Creation Club content
Honestly not interested until they sort out the bullet sponge enemys, even modders struggle to fix this problem because of the way bethesda made the levelimg up system

Are you really this dumb?
Clean your eyes and see.
Have you even seen any behind the scenes for some games?
I am not programmer and I don’t work in a dev but you do anything to make it sound like magic.
I know some Java and c# or sql but I am not claiming to know development. I do t know where you get this from.

I am just saying they should find better solution than slapping on 2 redundant modes. And I don’t even need to know anything because I am a customer. I don’t have to

You think you know anything about video game development because you've seen behind the scenes videos for some games?

It seems that you know nothing about video game development.
You have no idea what it would take for Fallout 4 to run at 4k and 60 fps. You continue to try to make your opinion more relevant by downplaying the complexity of video game development. Just stop, it'd absurd.

Okay Karin. "I demand that this game runs maxed out 4k at 60 FPS in a free update, even if it exceeds the limitations of the system. Just make it work somehow, you bunch of lazy devs".

You think having 2 modes is redundant? Yeah, imagine if any other game released on current system had a performance and a fidelity/resolution mode.

Like, say, Most of them.

Rykan, I'm not disagreeing with anything you have said. What do you think a reasonable expectation for a next-gen patch would be? If you answered this already, my apologies. I'm on break at work so I don't have time to scroll the thread.

I think we can probably expect a standard 4k/30 fps mode and a 60 fps mode that is probably somewhere between 1440p and 4k. They might op for dynamic resolution.

The thing with Fallout 4 is that it's a very complex game that does a lot of things at once. This is why bringing it up to 4k is a lot harder than other open world games like, for example, Horizon: Zero Dawn or Assassin's Creed.

That would ultimately be up to Bethesda and they are well known for their lack of interest in remaking older games. In their view if takes resources away from just making new games and they’d rather make new ones. And they’re such a golden goose that even though Msoft owns them now, Xbox will probably let them call the shots when it comes to remakes, even if Xbox wants them to be made as much as we do.
Right, that’s why I’m saying a separate studio should do it - it can be a lot of work, but you transfer the writing, the map design, gameplay tuning, and rebuild all the assets in a new engine..

Hoping to cash in on hype from the show, no doubt. If only they released a Fallout game in the past seven years that wasn't a totally irredeemable unflushed turd, then maybe they wouldn't have to do this.

Well tbf, between Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 they probably just don't have the man power. The most they could probably do at this point is early pre production stuff.

I can get it running 4k/60 already using mods on series x. Granted it drops frames (not sure exactly how much). If mods can already get that shouldn't an official, native next gen version be able to do 4k/60?

Stop getting all bent out of shape over the word "lazy". Bethesda is always has been one of the "laziest" devs out there. People aren't calling individual devs lazy but describing the lackadaisical attitude of certain studios as a whole. When some studios are out there optimizing and patching their games immediately for next gen but others like Bethesda can't even try to patch a live service like f76 than that is a perfectly appropriate term

Exactly.
If it's as close to 60fps as this, then just drop it to 1800p or add checkerboarding or some other reconstruction.
No need to make it 30fps or 1440p.
Or just dynamic res it... although this engine does not support dynamic res probably

I think Skyrim has DRS.

I don't know. Those things should be more hard on the CPU (physics and stuff), not GPU.

They never said it wouldn’t be in the article. Why are you assuming this?
Because I don' believe they will do 120hz mode since it's this stupid engine and that would be a lot of work.
So if they announce modes... then it has to be 30 and 60

The so called "4k/60" mod doesn't run at 60. The framerate fluctuates between 40 fps and 60 FPS. There are way too many FPS drops to consider it a 4k/60 fps experience.

Stop trying to normalize the word "Lazy" to describe video game developers. In an industry in which developers often have to spend months crunching just to get the game out, the term "lazy" is the single most inappropriate term to use.

Some studios have optimized their games immediately? Is that what this is about? Did they not release the FREE update for the 7 year old game fast enough for you, and that's why they're lazy? Bethesda games are far more technically complex than your typical generic open world game like Horizon:ZD or Assassins's Creed. The QA process alone takes significantly longer because of all the variables that need to be checked before you release an update.

Who says that they aren't going to patch F76? Just because they haven't announced it yet doesn't mean that they're not working on it. I fully expect them to announce updates for F76 next after F4 goes smoothly.

I’m surprised new Vegas didn’t get a 4k update from the backwards compatibility team

Got all pumped for Bethesda RPG games after listening to the Todd Howard interview last week.

Downloaded Fallout 4 on the XSX today and it already looks pretty good. Certainly much better than when I played it on vanilla PS4 when it came out.

Hope we don’t have to wait too long for the update. I’m guessing it’ll release around the same time as the TV series.

If you're already playing it, I would recommend against using the official FPS boost solution as it drops resolution.

Instead get the FPS unlock mod. It lets the game run at its One X resolution with an unlocked frame rate, which is in 95% of the cases at or around a solid 60.

I never played any of them but 3. I may try 4 sometime.

Re framerate and resolution they added godrays and other shit to Skyrim so let’s see what they do. I platted this within a week on PS4. Best Fallout. Come at me.

Awesome thanks for the heads up. Tried the 60fps and vivid fallout mods together and they look fantastic.

Cool news but the free update probably won't apply to the free version that comes in the PS5 game library lmao
Well, used copies are selling for 6.00$ right now on Ebay. The majority of ps5 owners that are interested likely already bought the game on ps4. I still added it to my library just incase I lost the physical copy.
