ESPN: Overwatch 2 Announcement at BlizzCon to Feature PvE, New Mode/Map and New hero

We've known for awhile that Blizzard was announcing something like this at BlizzCon, but we're finally getting some more specific details about what they're actually going to show.

Blizzard Entertainment will unveil the next iteration of their popular Overwatch franchise featuring a new logo, new game modes, maps, heroes and PvE features at BlizzCon this week, according to a BlizzCon source and a BlizzCon training document, which included information about Overwatch 2 and obtained by ESPN.
Hero talents and in-game items are coming to Overwatch 2 PvE, and one of the missions will be a four-player story experience set in Rio de Janeiro, as opposed to the 6v6 gameplay in the original Overwatch, according to the document. Blizzard did not respond to a request for comment.

While much of the focus will be on story and narrative elements, Overwatch will see its first new mode since the game was released in beta in 2015, with "Push" set to be unveiled alongside Assault, Control, Escort, Hybrid. Push will be set on a new map based in "Toronto," according to the document.
Referenced by the artwork in the document, Blizzard is expected to reveal Echo as Overwatch's 32nd hero. Blizzard first showed off Echo at BlizzCon last year, and game director Jeff Kaplan said they had "big plans for her" as of late last year.

Literally all I've ever played in Overwatch is Competitive mode so these PvE rumours do nothing for me.

Also curious how they sell this. If it's just DLC then that's okay. If it's an entire new game and somehow fractures the online playerbase though? That would be horrible.

I thought it was retarded at first, and I just can’t consider gaming a sport (they cover Chess over on ESPN too? About the same thing), but I have to admit it is actually kind of a cool having a big, mainstream org cover this stuff.
Yeah I'm not even hating its just, interesting.

Though ESPN is trash these days so that part sucks, but still.

There was another rumor that it replaces the original Ala Fortnite Chapter 2

Fortnite's scheme could work well here, where Overwatch (1) evolves to Overwatch 2 as far as PVP goes and essentially goes free-to-play, and Overwatch 2 PVE becomes a somewhat separate entity that requires a new purchase, but all existing within the same ecosystem.

It really should be additive to the base game. I'm all about some PVE with friends and the spouse but the original PVP is just really good.

Right? Plus I think they would Irritate a lot of fans that have invested a lot into Ovw OG. I might also snap my switch in half because I have been playing the original there.

Im leaning more into something additive even the Kotaku article would't call it a separate game iirc. Plus those screens look pretty much the same as Overwatch. Though i guess we will see soon

Good idea to slap the sequel onto the base game.

it’s really an expansion but for marketIng purposes I actually like the idea.

or they just sent the switch version to die... also A likely scenario.

If it's just Fortnite Chapter 2 like free update I take it, paying though? Think I am tired out on Overwatch, everytime I start some matches I am bored quickly.

I don't really see how this PvE OW2 shit is going to have any sort of longevity unless it's some sort of event like FORTNITE recently had (sorry i just woke up and can't really type out what im thinking).

It's really the only thing that it has going for it if its to remain on it's legs considering the closed nature of most Blizzard games (not being able to be modded not including WC3),

Left For Dead 2 is in steams top 40 in current player count on steam and it came out in 2009 and has mod support.

I just don't see this game lasting long.

Please do not criticize my poorly written post i am tired .

Oh that's right I forgot about the Overwatch 2 rumor.

No wonder they stopped supporting the game with well anything but more maps and characters.

For some bizzaro reason I thought early on there would be more content coming. With all the trailers and highly characterized heroes indicating some sort of story or scenario I thought the game just came out before it was finished and they would get around to it.

Maybe too many people bought it so there was no point, lol.

Personally I like the idea of a full fledged and new sequel. This just seems like DLC that slaps a 2 on it and adds some more DLC content. But same visuals, no real updates to the engine, etc.

It's like a lazy sequel to me.

The thing about doing a robust PVE mode for Overwatch is that it would need to be massively improved and overhauled over the PVE seasonal events that OW has and I'm not sure if the engine allows for that. Especially if it's going to be constrained on PS4, XB1 with 60 fps.

The OW PVE seasonal events are merely "okay" but they're nowhere near in terms of quality of other competitors like Vermintide.

If it's near the quality that the "Uprising" event was then it might not do so hot in 2019.

That Logo looked fake af but this looks legit.

EDIT: Some are saying the pics are just made of concepts ripped off deviant art.
I mean its clearly fake Overwatch 2 sounds almost as bad as "Breath of the Darkness"

This division of Activision (that's all the company is now) is such a fucking joke. It is NOT capable of making another seminal game.

If you look at the original Wow team, it was like 1/10th the size of the current team. With fewer people, more primitive technology, and less time, they managed to produce more.

I bet current "Blizzard" is layers upon layers of do-nothing bullshit management, they have daily 1 hour standup meetings in which they discuss game lore in terms of LGBT sensitivity, and 75% of the teams can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps.

They're FINISHED. Savvy? DONE. They went from being one of the premiere PC developers to being a team so shitty and incompetent that they can't even recreate one of the 15 year old games authentically.

It's appropriate that the theme of the next Wow expansion is death: Blizzard is fucking dead.
