ELDEN RING Patch 1.3 is available with multiple changes

Also I killed Diallos...curious if they'll bring him back to life so that I can further his quest line.

either way I think I'm going to make a new character. I've been meaning to make an Astrologer for a bit now. My pure dex character is at the fire giant but honestly I might just level him at level 128 or whatever he's at until the meta is figured out for PVP since I can't de-level a character.
These quest changes are gonna break a bunch of stuff if you're already in the middle of those quests, aren't they? I see several I have going on...

Being able to mark NPCs is useful. Been using the "person" markers for that, but that doesn't tell you anything except that there's someone there. Now what will I use those markers for? 🤔

But in general, it seems like this update is made to make the game easier? Maybe they're afraid all the newcomers will find it too hard and not return for future games... I personally have found it easier than the earlier games overall so far (except right at the start when I thought I could take on Margit without first putting in the work to be ready for him). I'm not that far yet though, and I'm fully melee + bow, no magic stuff (except for spirit summons), so I guess this won't make the game any easier for me.
definitely didn't make the game easier.

mimic and hoarfrost stomp were 2 major ways lots of people were getting through tough bosses. both are now nerfed.

also I think for the quests, they just added to the quest lines? shouldn't break any quests currently going on.

Ok, so they just made those quest lines longer? If you have already completed them there will now be more to do with those characters?

this is coming from someone who hasn't had a chance to hop on since the patch came out so I'm purely speculating, but off the top of my head a few of those quests ended in a place that honestly left me expecting future content down the road

I killed Diallos so can't speak for him, but Kenneth Haight and Gostoc seemed like were both written in to allow for more content down the road. especially Kenneth Haight

I somehow missed Nephelis quest line so can't comment on her either

Seen a couple of new dialog scenes unsurprisingly all seems to be connected with Alexander's quest-line. Diallos' bit is a follow on from Volcano manor so provided you haven't murdered him should continue as usual.

Mimic tear is still a fine tank/distraction. But it definitely spams less specials.

Not sure about Nepheli. Might have made a wrong choice earlier when speaking to her at Roundtable, but seems unchanged.

Much improved load times (saw some for 8 seconds) on Series X now plus performance improvements:

Curious about Series S.

Looks like this is another game with terrible patching, 1.63GB update needs almost as much space as the entire game (46GB).
Checked the folder on steam and it basically allocated space for all the game files again.
Far cry 6 did this stupid shit too, re-allocate the entire game and then patch only the few files needed before copying over; I hope it's a bug like it was with far cry 6.

Black Knife Tiche is still pretty OP even with Mimic Tear taking a hit.
honestly I've always considered the ash that inflicts rot as powerful as mimic, if not more powerful in certain situations

now that mimic was nerfed, and rot wasn't touched, I'd imagine the rot ash will become even more popular

you can literally just let him proc rot and run away from the boss until he dies. ez cheese

edit: this is for pure melee builds. I'm pure dex so didn't have access to the spell that lets me inflict rot. and the resource to make rot arrows/rot items is very limited.

Does this patch make the game less boring?

You can also argue that no balance changes should be made to a mostly SP game. Don't want the game to be easy - don't use the weapon.
If it's there it becomes part of the game world, it's like telling someone not to use their queen at chess (well I'm sure some people do that).

Still, there is a way to do this... But reading the list of changes made me think that they made the game easy enough for the average games journalist to stop complaining about the lack of a baby mode.

When you try to please everyone you end up with lame / soulless products instead of unique "experiences", this is true for music, movies, games, books, etc. Some media products are really good because they are not very accessible to the general audience of a given media.

My friend who uses the katanas + bloody slash build is saying that while bloody slash looks like a nerf and could potentially be a nerf for lower levels, it actually was buffed due to arcane scaling also being fixed this patch. He is higher level at level 71 with 30 arcane and he states that bloody slash hits way harder now(what feels like 100-150 more damage) potentially due to his arcane level now factoring in.

Edit: However, make sure you have enough health for this type of build. It eats away much faster at your health bar than what it used to.

I play faith quality almost because I'm over leveled for where I am and using different weapons is fun, but yeah incantations really could use some work. Half of them are barely usable. Long cast times, no hyper armor or w/e it's called and zero range. They are fine to cheese some things, but they are mostly garbage outside vow, flame grant me strength and regular lightning bolt.
Oh and the flame cleanse is quite helpful.
I found garangs boulder( from the beast priest) to be really good. Quick cast time and can stun lock most enemies and even stagger.

I am glad I got the platinum already! Malenia is such a terrible boss fight and without that hoarfrost cheese, I don’t think I would ever have beaten her.

As long as we don't update we should be good no? Or are there some trophies linked to online?

She and few other last bosses.
The infinite spam aoe and other cheeses. And the delays and holds….
Even with a little cheese I was getting frustrated and annoyed unlike any other souls before except Maria and kos… and ishin

You should be good, but thr issue is that if you play with a save set to a particular patch you can’t delete said patch and play a lower patched version.

Digital owners get no choice.

have you tried black flame blade?
Probably the most consistent and usable buff in the game, allows to kill anything faster if you can get the buffs ins. Feels almost like a new mechanic in how the buff is casted since it gives you distance can cancel some animations but it lasts just a couple of seconds.

It does a porcentual dot on the enemy if im not mistaken, shit is cool af.

I dig the patch. Some nice changes to the map and vendor menus and the magic spells hit nice and hard.

Took a bit of practice and experimentation but beat her with my Faith build, ended up not using Hoarfrost or Moonveil at all.

All that you really need is a stun move and strong ranged damage. And Mimic helps a lot although its really just the best option if your FP isn't high enough to use Tiche.

In the end I used
Swarm of Flies, because it works fine even with mininal Arcane to stun her, and just abused the hell out of Taker's Flames from Blasphemous Blade +10

I wouldn't worry about MImic changes btw. Used her tonight on a couple of somewhat challenging bosses and worked good as ever.

I just wish they fix the stutters and freezes on PC.... I dont mind frame rates dipping a bit, but the stuttering/freezing is annoying as fuck!

I'm more faith so I've been using mainly faith weapons which you can't use it on. I did use it on my Katana, but it's so short compared to the lightning one that it didn't seem useful. Will give it another go though.

Maybe I'm just paying closer attention since this patch, but I feel like it got worse for 1.3 on my machine.

I immediately noticed the NPC icons, it’s kinda hilarious in some places where there’s multiple NPCs. Bu-bu-but this should be a no-handholding game! You’re supposed to put icons on the map yourself to remember where you met an NPC! From, y u catering to the filthy casuls now?

See folks, a little user-friendliness isn’t going to ruin your generation-defining game.

Magic buffing should definitely address the complaints about the damage not being there. I wouldn’t know, tried magic in DS3 and it was absolute shit in both speed and damage so I carefully steered away from it in ER.

Nerfing some weapons is probably necessary for PVP. Shame though, I see nothing wrong in having a few OP weapons and powers for PVE, making things easier for those who struggle.
