E3 2021: Xbox has everything to prove, it's time to show off the fruits of its software investments and there's little margin for error

He is an overrated man like Tod Howard. but, both of them, let their work do the talk for them, and their games are highly regarded.

as for fanboys, they are just man-child's. We got to the point someone berated at a guy who hangs out with Phil spencer, for playing ratchet and clank. an actual quato from twitter (I know the site is hit). " You don’t deserve to touch a dualsense controller nor play greatness…stick with that trash box" by Leon Kennedy @Ken_retro3 jun 7. That is how toxic fanboys have become.
Father forgive him, for he does not know what he is saying.

Both side are the same. I try to ignore them, and let people enjoy what they want.

I see alot of Playstation toxic fans, but that won't change my mind that xbox also has those toxic people. If I went after one group, I will be the same level as them. So I try to think the other side has the same as those side. No side is saint. Just because they are quite doesn't mean they don't exist.

I think there are going to be a lot less games shown that poeple hope. 90min conference, both Xbox and Bethesda, and now Battlefield.
I'd think Halo will get 10-15mins, Starfield i could see getting upwards of 30mins (like Fallout 4 reveal), Battlefield will probably be another 10-15mins. Add in a bit of talking and all that, and we are probably left with 30mins for other games.

It's still not time yet. We'll get some good Bethesda stuff that was already deep in development. And that's ok because it's on GamePass.

Sony needs to come out swinging, though. I'm hoping that they get into the habit of showing games only when they're closer to release. It feels like we see the same games from Sony for 3 years.

Swinging for what? They just released Ratchet and Clank that is being praised. Also who says Starfield is releasing any time soon?

Yea, and they're even bigger and more successful now.

I can't believe this actually has to be said, but believe it or not... studios make games...
Yes, lets pretend you wasnt talking about more studios, unless MS is gonna announce a studio splitting off into another studio at E3....

Well, I guess this is where our perspectives diverge, in that I see no added value to the article in the author throwing in a bunch of wild speculation on what MS could possibly do to result in an exciting E3 conference. It would inadvertently and artificially limit the focus of his article to the examples the author suggests (even if not intended), when there are in fact an infinite number of possibilities, by making it seem as if the article is trying to imply that if MS doesn't tick off all the things suggested, they somehow have failed... it shifts the focus of the article.

It's also an inherently subjective quantity, so you could even ask 40 people on this forum that same question and get 40 different responses.

For example, a hardcore Halo fan could simply be satisfied by an awesome Halo: Infinite re-reveal and on the basis of that alone feel like MS delivered. Another gamer might want more studio acquisitions. Yet another might want to see MS making a new AAA Battletoads game.

The point is, it's not on the article author to prescriptively tell us (their readers) what they think MS could do to delight us gamers. He or she cannot know that. And so I don't see the lack of blind speculation on game announcements being a valid criticism against the article in the OP.

You and I already know the types of gaming experiences we like and would be delighted in seeing at MS's conference. The article author mentioning a few examples based on their own subjective gaming tastes wouldn't add much value to us whose gaming tastes might differ entirely.

I agree with all of this, but there's one thing I'd just like to add: the author can technically still add some of those more poignant items, as long as they are considerate of what the other mainstream tastes would want.

So in that sense, you can just come up with a few speculations that cover a reasonably wide gamut, that are fairly realistic in scope and take other perspectives into account instead of simply relying on what the person writing the article would want solely for themselves.

There's wild, aimless speculating, and then there's speculating based on some understanding of prior knowledge, clues/evidence of hints (circumstantial or not), and just having a general understanding of timescale for software development and knowing what certain studios focus on and their product schedules, that can help keep even detailed speculation in decent enough check.

"It's now or never for xbox" seems to be a common thought. Just not one based in the real world.
You're right in one respect but I'd also counter that by saying Xbox have done almost everything bang on the money since Phil Spencer took over from 'that man' but that was 7 years ago and their 1p offering is no better now than it was then - debatably worse in fact.

People are saying 'now or never' because A) we've been saying 'this year' for 7 bloody years!
And B) strategically this is a major E3 for MS and Phil.

Please Phil, bring the big guns - or at least show us that you have big guns.... You do have big guns right?

I just finished Will of the Wisps for first time since launch. Such a great game. We need more stuff like that. I'm really hoping Tunic makes an appearance with a release window.

Tunic looks boss imo , the indie Xbox stuff has some really interesting stuff coming. There is a game called Sable coming with gorgeous art direction , a demo is rumoured to be out soon for it.

Or a camp. The way some people try to reduce critically acclaimed games is ridiculous lol

That would be additive to the article for sure.

I might hazard a guess, however, that the author may have chosen to hesitate from adding any such informed speculation, for fear that the unwashed masses may mistake it as a subliminal hint based on some insider knowledge.

The pre-E3 hype train is an especially insatiable beast, that will readily throw off the reins of logic and reason in the face of even the tiniest sliver of the perception of an insider reveal... even when in reality it's a big fat nothing burger.
