Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

What:
Dragon Quest of the Stars is a new mobile Dragon Quest game! Featuring an all new Dragon Quest story, venture forth with your allies to uncover the secret of the Questocrat and the mysterious book he left behind. Recover your memories and set out to vanquish evil across the galaxy.

Gameplay essentially revolves around battles with enemies. During these battles, your characters will auto-attack with their base weapon while charging up their special attacks. Once charged, players can unleash their special attacks by pressing the button on the lower half of the screen. Queue up multiple special attacks in a row for a huge damage combo. The PvE section of the game is split mainly into two different scenarios: exploring (on the overworld map) to unlock new locations and battling through dungeons. Dungeons can be multiple layers deep, and each floor has it's own set of criteria you can complete to unlock bonuses.

Gacha and monitization:
I can already hear you through the internet: "This game must suck, because it's got gacha mechanics that rely on real-world money". You can use real-world money to buy gems, which are used for things like gacha pulls and refilling stamina. The game gives you a huge number of gems just for playing the game.

While it's true that this game does have several ways to get money from you (gacha and/or optional monthly subscription) in my opinion the game is perfectly playable without paying anything at all. The game is very generous with how it hands out equipment and items, including giving players one free gacha treasure chest per day (which can include 5* items!) as well as a daily login bonus. The game is absolutely playable without spending any money at all.

The game features a stamina bar that depletes as you undertake quests, but it also expands to hold additional stamina the further along in the story you go. Currently for the game's launch, all of the main scenario missions are 1/2 stamina. One stamina point refills every 3 minutes, and in my first six hours of playing the game I've yet to run out of stamina once. However, if you run out of stamina and wish to continue, you can refill it using gems if you don't want to wait.

I tried it.

Gameplay kinda reminded me of that casino Slime machine in Dragon Quest XI.

UI is way too messy for me, i didn't love it: i don't understand why Square decided to port this over Dragon Quest Walk.

This feels and sounds like Harry Potter for mobile, which is terrible.

Sorry to break yah, but being "playable without" means freaking nothing. Harry Potter is also playable without paying but its disgustly terrible of how forced it is and how stagnate you feel. Waiting and waiting makes you lose the entire interest in the game.

As a fan of DQ, this sounds pretty dissapointing. Easy pass, sorry.

I'll agree that the UI has a bit of a learning curve and some of the essential functions are hidden in sub-menus for ridiculous reasons. I'll also agree that Dragon Quest Walk would have been a much better game for them to bring West. This game even shares it's armor / weapon icons and skins with that game.

I said "playable without" because I've clocked about six hours into the game already and haven't paid anything or come close to either a) running out of stamina or b) have any shortage of 5* equipments. Most of the main scenario / story quests only require 1-4 stamina points, which are mostly refilled by the time you finish playing those levels anyway - due to the game having a half-stamina cost event for launch. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't feel forced in this game - it doesn't appear to be made to revolve around draining your stamina as quickly as possible in an attempt to get you to pay up.

The closest equivalent I've played would be Final Fantasy: Record Keeper, which was also known for being very generous with it's equipment draws and giveaways.
