The International is an 11 day LAN event and for the time being the biggest prizepool tournament with over $24M. The prizepool is increased by buying cosmetics through the TI8 Battle Pass, 25% of the funds goes to the prizepool and the remaining 75% goes to Valve including next year's Pro Circuit season prizepools and hosting future events.

The format is four days of Bo2 roundrobin Group Stages. Each team plays 7 Bo2 matches.
One day off after the Group Stages.
The top 4 Group Stage teams in each group are seeded into the Main Event Upper Bracket (Bo3 double elimination)
The teams 5-8 are seeded into the Main Event Lower Bracket (Bo1 single elimination)
The bottom teams in each group are eliminated from the the Main Event.
The Main Event playoffs are all Bo3 except the Lower Bracket first round and the Grand Final which is a true Bo5 (no game advantages)

18 of the best teams in the world - 8 invited and 10 qualified from thousands of Open Qualifer teams.
I have ranked the teams here in terms of this season's Dota Pro Circuit points then by region, but unlike most other sporting events the best team is not necessarily the one that wins. Upsets occur all the time even for the best and most highly rated teams. Yearly winnings are dwarfed by the colossal prize pool which promises over $10M for first place.

I will make a revised team rankings after the Group Stages since a lot of team growth and meta development will occur during the Group Stages which show how well teams have trained during the last 2 months.

This year the event has shifted to Vancouver (home of Areteezy) due to Key Arena renovations and a seemingly easier player visa process. Unlike past years every player has made it smoothly, except one idiot.

he's the clown we deserve
I know he is paid to do exactly that. It's just not my type of humor. I just can't enjoy it at all.
Love Machine being the host tho. Redeye is sometimes to much of a prick.

Just my personal preference. I know when it comes to liking people everyone is very different.
What matches to watch tho?

LGD and OG or Liquid and Fnatic?
Probably both. (I always love EE lose and choke)

Second match is VP vs Optic for sure.

Is day 9 not hosting this year? Thought he did a great job

Loved the ppd day 9 chemistry, mostly ppd thinking day 9 is a retard lol

I fucking hate the guy with the high pitched voice that talks like a european but was born in the states. That guy needs to be on blues clues or something..

I think PGL hired all the people they regularly use.

I'm always curious how this shit can happen?

It's not like they are doing a TI for the first time. And it's not like they have money to pay someone who knows how to do this shit.

Thanks for all the clips btw Shira! Haven't had the time to tune in properly so far but it's great to check out some of these highlights.

Liquid vs EG series yesterday is worth watching a vod of if you missed it. Even worth watching again. First game is some of the highest skill dota2 I've seen in quite some time. Feel like Liquid spent the first two days gathering data. Yesterday they started using that data.

EG lost but they can probably learn more from that loss than they would have from a win, ultimately more valuable for the main event perhaps.

Interesting, that the price pool didn't increase in the last 3 years if you account for days funding...

TI2015: 182.5k
TI2016: 233.4k
TI2017: 243k
TI2018: 237.2k

I'm a console gamer so I wasn't really familiar with it but this is literally like 3-4 blocks from my work, taking place at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC.
