Doom Eternal for the Nintendo Switch is coming out today

I know many were waiting for this port. I personally enjoyed Doom 2016 on Switch, though I can't say I feel the same WOW factor when watching this comparison as I did back when the first one came out. Feels like the smudgy resolution and blurry details annoy me more than it did 3 years ago. The FPS cuts in half, I can live with. It's really the IQ that disturbs me more than I thought it would.

That really does look unexpectedly impressive. They may have pulled it off.

I kind of feel like the OP in that the ‘party trick’ of PS4 and Xbox One games running on Switch has become a bit commonplace (especially after Witcher 3) since the original Doom, where it was mindblowing, but this is pretty awesome.

I don’t really endorse this ‘drop the resolution hard’ approach, as opposed to a really good looking native Switch game, but you can see where there’s levels of detail that you would never expect on this platform, and just how impressive it is that it’s all here and running.

I am waiting for the DF impressions, though. Sometimes viewing the Docked output (which I assume this is from a brief look) through a phone or something, can give you a better, false idea of what it looks like.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
Looks about how you would expect. But the real test is the second half of the game. The enemy count is significantly higher.

Yeah, this looks like the performance I was expecting.

Kudos to them for even porting it on the Switch. I hope those really wanting it there will be excited for it. I completely believe they did everything they could to get it to look and perform the best.

Switch ports of Doom 2016 and Eternal are very impressive, reminds me of Cod ports on Wii, but in Switch's case, they didn't have to lower the poly count.

if they're really in for a technical challenge just for the sake of technical challenge, why not port it to VR? even better: try to make it run on Quest!

But maybe they should've...the performance is dogshit. I mean it's impressive that it runs at all but it could've been even more impressive running at 720P 60FPS, even with a reduced graphical feature set...of course that would've involved much more invasive changes and would've made it stand out more visually next to its bigger cousins, though I'd argue that visuals aren't everything and that gameplay and, in a game like this, performance is king.

Since the first DOOM or maybe Wolfenstein game ported to switch I wonder if it's worth it. Do these games make a profit? I can't fanthom these ports being cheap.

Playing Doom on the Switch is like watching porn on a baby monitor. Resist Satan embrace Jesus.
