Don't see a problem. After all I remember Sony & co. was touting Tempest being superior or whatever
And that nobody uses Atmos etc.

i think this is a bs rumor. more like Sony unwilling to pay for the licenses.
OhSnap.gifWould a HDMI port that's cappped at 32 Gbps pass Dolby certification in the first place?
Marketing. They have had Dolby Vision and Atmos for more than 2 years already (Though Vision for gaming never got outside of the Insider testing) So why would they make this deal now?
I don't know if I buy into this one.
Where else did you expect it to work? Hate to break it to you, 3D audio has only ever worked properly with headphones (Atmos for speaker setups isn't the same thing).
Its not really that. I wanna say something like this is unprecedented. Who knows. Is this some kind of an advantage?
And of course some ppl are only looking at it thru the lenses of console wars. Congrats.Don't see a problem. After all I remember Sony & co. was touting Tempest being superior or whateverAnd that nobody uses Atmos etc.

"If they can get it working", and it won't support discrete height channels, it's going to be simulated.sony stated it would support surround setups at a later stage
Jesus fuck i am kinda salty about this.
because that means i won’t be getting dolby atmos on my ps5 exclusive games any time soon.
And as much as i like the 3D headphones audio... i fucking hate wearing cans...
fuck![]()
it supports dolby atmos on uhd bluraysHas Sony consoles ever supported Dolby codecs?
There's your answer...
But PS5 is pushing their own codec. Also when did this happen? I remember PS4 not supporting Atmos.it supports dolby atmos on uhd blurays![]()
Guess what? Sony is pushing for their own standard (think Bluray) and doesn't want to promote Dolby which is available on a competing console.Jesus fuck i am kinda salty about this.

any idea why sony cheap out on this part? such a weird decision.
You don't need new HDMI cables for Dolby Vision HDR
Even if you did, why would Sony pay for the cables and not support Dolby Vision?

The speakers on my tv are Dolby atmos. So yea. Pretty good for meMost people use the speakers on their tv. Mucho exclusivito Spencer.
And how much did you spend on your tv? Most people spend under a grand and those mass market tvs have crap sound. The speakers on my tv are Dolby atmos. So yea. Pretty good for me![]()

It's not the cables, it's the bandwidth of the port.
To fully enjoy the richness of HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision images, it is recommended to use Premium High Speed HDMI cables, compatible with a bandwidth of 18 Gbps.
Atmos is the biggest improvement in home theater since stereo imo. Yes, bigger than surround sound(which honestly never really wowed me)Atmos is overrated, it's just the latest trick from Dolby to sell license. I mean Atmos for TV, Sound Bar and now Cellphones..... really?
Dolby Vision is great but I don't think it's a good idea from Dolby in order to win the HDR format war again HDR10+ open format.

PeopleI dunno if it's my platinum headset doesn't support it or what, but I can't notice a difference to save my life lol.
But, I dunno why people are warring over this.
That doesn't cut it for games. Maybe 24fps movies with DV. But you need higher bandwidth for DV at 60hz.
Then the cable that comes in the PS5 box will do just fine.
this is hands down the most fucking retarded thing microsoft did.
way to fuck over people that paid a shit ton of cash for a dolby atmos set..
thank god i have a decent gaming pc.
24.06 Gbps 4k/60Hz.No one is talking about a cable in here.

The source is xbox.com.Do people actually believe these Rumours? Dolby has been on Xbox Consoles/Windows Store for over 2 years.
This REALLY sucks. I don't care about Dolby Vision in games (HLG is perfect), but for 4K blurays it is crucial. Ridiculous that it is "blocked" from PS5 now because of this deal. It's a fucking technical feature, not an exclusive game or something. Not cool.
edit: typo because of angry typing
Sony fully backs DV as far as movies go, a vast majority of their 4k Blurays feature it. HDR+ is pretty much DOA at this point.Hope Sony normalizes hdr10+, Dolby Vision is barely better than 10+ but is full of royalties.
Another mediocre decision by chinless Phil, shocking. Who knows why the Xbox series line is getting crushed. Most people use the speakers on their tv. Mucho exclusivito Spencer.
No one is talking about a cable in here.
