Let me see. Xcloud which i can use it on my mobile. I can also use it on any pc/laptop which chrome browser. I can use gamepass on xbox. I can use gamepass on pc. I can use ea play on xbox and pc. I also get xlive with it. At this point, gamepass value is crazy.

Psnow is pc stream. You cant download them. on ps4, they are downloadable for ps4 games, but not ps2-3 games.

Now tell me, which service has more value?
In my opinion, the one with the better games: PSNOW. Moreover, XCloud is still in Beta.

If it impacts the budget/quality of the game like it seems to be doing with Microsoft, no. I want my gaudy, boundary pushing, medium redefining games from Sony.

I LOVE gamepass, though. It's just that I've had it since it was announced, and the output from first parties on Microsoft has been mediocre. Maybe that has nothing to do with gamepass, but when your $70 game sells 20 million copies, ain't no amount of gamepass that'll make up for that.

Microsoft at that time had 5 devs, hence why their output was weak. they started doing purchasing in 2018. This year, or next year is when those games drop.

How's this relevant to my post.

I said Minecraft, Roblox and Fornite don't require consoles to play. They're all free 2 play games, and so if a younger gamer today want's to play Minecraft they don't need a console and can play on the tablet they already own.

So these games aren't the primary driver of console sales. Not at all.

Another irrelevant metric. That Minecraft is a top seller on Switch, tells you nothing about Minecraft sales on Switch compared to sales on other platforms. Much less player counts on other platforms.

I'm arguing a factual qualitative truth, and you're trying to counter-argue by asking for irrelevant data while cherry-picking data that's even less relevant to the argument being discussed.... WTF?
You also claimed that « most play those games on potato PCs, tablets and smartphones » except the numbers for Fortnite don’t show it, not the revenue numbers and not the active players numbers. Again, if you have anything proving otherwise let me know.

Then you say that people don’t buy consoles for the purpose of playing Fortnite, that must be why there are so many console bundles with it:

And that’s only the official ones with a packaging, if you go into retailer packages you could fill a page with those.

Why would they?
Sony doesn't give a shit about the consumer they're not even attempting to hide it, and you'd have to be on a whole other level of delusional to not see it.
The whole thing with crossplay and what they said about it is quite indicative of this, they justified making devs pay them for crossplay with '' how does crossplay benefit the Playstation business? ''.
Not the consumer and the players, the Playstation business.

They publish Xbox revenue every quarter. They hide profits (although we know the profits from 2019), but profits don't matter, otherwise people wouldn't say Sony is #1.

A lot of companies does this too, and even so Microsoft is far more massive than Sony is.
The Xbox in and of itself isn't as important to Microsoft.

Idk if you're talking in general or just pointing out Sony picadilloes, but MS did the same when they were dominant in the first half of PS3 generation. They refused cross play and also don't forget how MS twist armed Valve into releasing paid maps to Xbox while on PC they were free so as to not create a bad precedent for free things.

I mean both business' doesn't give a shit about the consumers.

refusing cross play, and making people for cross play is 2 different thing. Both are shit, but not the same.

...and making people pay for Online servers wasn't ? I think they are the same.

Don't forget the MP online used to be free but MS changed that. I am not on any side but these are facts and we can't cherish or hate other company policies because just this time they were on the losing side.

edit: As you said, both are shit.

Nonsense, you're the delusional.

Sony are the ones getting more support from consumers. PS4 is 2.5M consoles away of being the best selling console ever, sold over 1500 million games and PS5 is starting beating the PS4 gaming history records. They have like 100 million players every month on their consoles. Their exclusives are selling better than they ever did and are getting more GOTY awards than anyone else. Consumers also prefer to spend way more money on Sony's game subscription. Sony's trailers/events and social media stuff also have record breaking numbers.

Sony is giving consumers exactly what consumers want. Or at least there are more consumer supporting them, and spending more money on them, than in their direct competition.

That is nice blabbering friend. No, Sony isn't giving what fans want. They are business.

Sony entire success was being the talk of the town. After Xbox shut it self down.

Without that, Sony wouldn't have gotten the 100m consoles.

Goty means shit, if your competition ain't putting out that much games. And people are so much sucking up to it.

Their games are great, but its not ground breaking like gta, skyrim, and rd2.

As for your consumerism, maybe you need to check out, how they literally hyped their new consoles, and back tracked of their games. That is the level of deception you people eat it easily. No wonder why Sony acts like apple, when there are people like you.

Both companies are equally shit. They make their customers pay for online gaming. Sony engage more in timed exclusivity, to the point now pc players aren't getting ff7 remake. Its a shit business, that is anti consumer. Xbox on other hand, has its fucking drm shit. Making their console a fucking obsolete, without internet connection.

Don't you fucking pretend both companies care about you. All they want is your money, nothing more, nothing else.

No Sony won't directly compete with Game Pass.

1) it's very expensive and will take years of investment to pay off.

2) They don't have enough content to sustain a service like Game Pass, especially as the asking price skyrockets.

3) The economics don't work in Sony's favour. You can't increase the quality of PSNow or PS+ while maintaining $60 a year.

No they announced it years ago. It is called PSnow long before Gamepass came on the scene

they don’t have their own Azure server farm and structure to counter other then try and improve PSnow

There is only 1 option. And that option will bring fire to the internet. Psnow games being allowed to download on pc, will explode the internet. Where game pass are perfectly fine with it.

Nah. Sony already said that it is financially impossible for them to do something like this. Game Pass itself seems to be minus profit case for Microsoft too.

They may expand their services and make some modifications for Playstation Now, or may even offer consolidated plan that includes "Playstation Plus" at cheaper price - but I don't think they can financially afford full Game Pass like investment. But I'm rather positive that their end goal is to become like next Netflix of all things digital entertainment, not just gaming.

Most likely, they'll be focusing on expanding to movies and TV dramas, as well as focusing their big name exclusive IPs, hoping for big synergy that's sustained and ongoing. Once they do that, they may end up creating their own services including video and gaming all together down the road.

That is nice blabbering friend. No, Sony isn't giving what fans want. They are business.
Business only works well when they offer a product or service that their customer wants and at a price their consumer considers fair. And in their case works in record breaking levels.

It's stupid to think people massively buy an entertainment product they don't want.

Sony entire success was being the talk of the town. After Xbox shut it self down.

Without that, Sony wouldn't have gotten the 100m consoles.
PS1, PS2, almost PS3, PS4 achieved 100M and now PS5 is on track. By their own merits, MS has nothing to do here. PS3 wasn't as successful as the other ones and almost got outsold by MS mostly due to its own flaws: bizarre alien hardware too difficult to develop for, too expensive launch price, being almost 2 years late to the next gen. Outside PS3 Sony always clearly dominated MS the overall home console market.

Goty means shit, if your competition ain't putting out that much games. And people are so much sucking up to it.

Their games are great, but its not ground breaking like gta, skyrim, and rd2.
GOTY means most people agree that they are the best game of the year. Sony exclusives dominated the GOTY awards during the last decade, which means they have a lot of top quality excluives. MS can't say the same.

They aren't equally shit. A company like Sony that has industry record breaking console or game sales numbers and collect hundreds of awards every year means they are doing what these consumers want, they are doing a great job as company. A company like MS that sells like less of the half, their exclusives aren't reviewed that good and don't win all these awards means they are offering something that is less attractive to their consumers than the other guys.

I never said they cared about me. They are companies, and as companies they offer products and services that may or may not appeal to me. If I like them and I have money, I buy them. If not, I don't buy them. Same goes for the rest of the consumers.

Regarding timed exclusives, Sony, MS and Nintendo have plenty of timed exclusives. As an example, recently The Medium or Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection were announced for PlayStation after a timed exclusivity. Or the Xbox CFO, the guy in charge of the finances of Xbox, said when they announced the Zenimax/Bethesda purchase that their plan will be to focus on 'first or better on Xbox' for their future Zenimax/Bethesda games, which means will see some of them becoming Xbox timed console exclusives. PC (and Xbox) players will get FFVIIR but later, because in this case is Sony who paid for it.

1: Business is business. Sega, atari were dominating before sony, and they gone of the earth with hardware consoles. Both of these 2 companies, were unable to adapt with changing time, so they dropped out. It doesnt matter if you sell billions, if you cant adapt with the market change, your past means nothing (Sony own tv department should tell you this).

2: People buy because of hype, and they dont want to be left out. PlayStation wouldn't have sold that much, if people weren't pressured by their friends, and desire to be with other people. Fortnite logo had a bundle for ps4. So hype sells the consoles, and popular games.

3: Majority of people who owns ps4 didnt buy it, because of past legacy consoles. They bought, because people were talking about it.

4: GOTY means shit. Its a bunch of celebrity choosing the game, due to the narrative it has. Most great games dont have the narrative these games have. Look at ori and the will of wisp. It didnt have any leg against tlou2, because it doesnt fit their view of goty. Hell doom eternal didnt even get a chance. GOT which better atmosphere than tlou2 lost to that game. So tell me, when do these games get a chance for goty?

4: Again, sales means shit, when you are the talk of the town, and your competition are the laughing stock. Xbox had the stigma of no games, despite it having games. If xbox didnt have that stigma, i doubt sony would have cracked that 100m console. XBox has 2 juggernaut games. Minecraft and Roblox. If they didnt shoot themself at that e3, they would have been much more popular with kids today.

and as for sony exclusive, only 1-2/10 of ps4 buy it. and most of their games are single player, which ment to be played alone. While on xbox, are group game. Halo has the Mp, Gears same, Forza same, Sea of thieves same. These games are social. Both companies target different groups. just because you love SP games, doesnt mean everyone does. Hell, sony exclusive are talked by media and you guys. My brother who owns his ps4, doesnt even know about it. and i bough his ps4 in 2018. he only has Spiderman.

5: I agree with you on that. They are only there for their business. they dont care whether we argue or not. all it benefits them, is the free at advertisements we do for them.

6: Bethesda/Zenimax will never have their games as timed exclusive. they are first party xbox period. Xbox/Pc is where those games will be.

as for times exclusive, I have no issue with it. Cyberpunk 2077 is the example of what happens when a company does their games independent. Timed makes sure those things never happen. People dont understand how valuable those times are. Yes it sucks that one platform gets to enjoy it, but it makes sure those games are polished, due to the contract. Once ff7r gets out of time exclusive, other devices will get it as full experience.

The only time timed exclusive is bad, is when its has online multiplayer. It makes the experience less good when others get it. The prime of that game is done after a month or 2 (outrider is prime example if its becomes times exclusive).

At the end of the day, there are new generation of gamers than the ps4/x1 era. This makes past sales useless. Roblox has 199m active users, While Minecraft sold 240m, and has 140m active users. This is your prime example that the industry is facing a new change. new gamers are joining the game. the old fart technique are useless now. You cant tout with best exclusive now. people want new fresh experience. Fortnite become sensational. 350m registered account (50-100m are multiple accounts, so take that with grain salt). These will be adults, like how ps1 were adult on ps2/ps3 time. you need to attract those people. that is the main goal now.

Gamepass is for somebody who has no customer retention. A game library you own is for customer retention. Figure it out.
Gamepass is MS' plan B. Not a good money maker. Not a good customer retention drive but one that hopes to convert some people because they are on the back foot.

Sony don't need a plan B at this time but may some time in the future.

I don't understand your point. Game pass is a subscription service that requires people to keep paying to be successful. You might not know this but you can buy every game that is available on Game pass, with a discount no less. Plus the service allows you to try out games you might not have wanted to shell out full price on until you've tried it. Building a game library that you buy takes time to do and you might not want to jump into building a library from scratch but if you can try out games you like though Game pass the risk is lower. If Game pass is a plan 'B' as you call it how would it convert people as you say? Based on your claims it doesn't encourage customer retention. Also how do you explain why Game pass has so many more subscribers than PS Now when it is plan 'B' and MS is on the back foot?

I don't think Sony needs to follow MS with Game pass because I prefer each company to do their own thing but I am not seeing the things you claim.

Any company with content can do a subscription service. Always focus on content first then talk about the business model later.

How exactly is it crap talk. It's business sense. You and the usual crap talkers, darkmage included, are here not seeing it from the perspective that it is because you think MS have been slighted.

MS are pushing for gamepass because it is designed to lower the barrier of entry for newcomers. If they had high console and software sales they would not have gone down this route and they would try to retain customers instead. They wouldn't support things like crossplay. Sony at the moment want to retain customers instead of converting them so the customer owning things is one way to retain them because they would have a library of games playable only on that console.

read the first part of your 2nd paragraph. Those are the gamers, people dont pay attention to. Trying to be a high class restaurant, blocks future customers. Especially, now that we are on a pandemic. Not everyone has enough money to buy games. People have to buy food. Spending 60-70 on that months, means not enough money for food, or enough money for other things. College students can spend 15$ on gamepass that month, and have great games to play on their school laptop using xcloud. While they save 45$-55$ for food, and other necessity.

Doubt you care about that. also your Sony is making devs pay money to enable crossplay. think before you talk crap dude.

and as for the library game, not everyone has 600$ to spend a year to have 10 games, on top of the 500$ for the console. and not mention, sony now is doing 70$ game.

Ok, but what has this got to do with what I said?

I said Gamepass is a strategy for a company who doesn't care so much about customer retention but more about customer conversion because they don't have the big install base of consoles and game sales. You called my post a crap fanboy post. Then you came in with this crap about thinking about student budgets? Ok dude, whatever.

You still dont get it, after this.

Both sony and xbox are facing new generation of gamers. your tactic is useless on these new generation. these guys grow up with netflix, disney plus, and free games like fortnite, warzone. Your traditional gaming wont work on them. You have to have an enticing offer, which can capture them. That is what gamepass is. A whole alot of games, included 1st party games and xbox live, with xcloud, and you can play it on your pc, browser, and your phone. Do you think people will go to sony, when they see this? Sony, while it offers great SP experience, their games price is 70$. You need to pay Ps+ on top of that. Not to mention, that you also need to pay psnow too, if you want to use it.

Now tell me, what console will those guys go? the one who has great games but expensive entry, or the one where you get all their day1 games and other day1 games for 15$, and you can play those games where you want. you dont even need to own a console for that option.

Only hardcore players think of exclusives. Casual dont even care about. They look for sales, and f2p games to play.

Who doesnt like free games. I like gamepass due to being able to play on both pc and xbox. I am not constrained by a box. That choice make it much more value, than it being simply on xbox. if it was that, i wouldnt have bothered with it. i like convenient, not great library that you have.

I think many people ignore the reality that Game Pass exists because a company like Microsoft is behind it. People forget but PS+ started out as a service which provided games for a subscription fee (yes, only 2 games a month but I think that was all Sony could do). Microsoft has the resources to push forward a service like Game Pass and right now given the pricing, the promos and the variety of content it offers is great; but other companies without the funding that MS has would have caved in or would be charging a lot more for it.

If Microsoft wasn't behind it, a service like Game Pass could have a very similar fate as MoviePass which was also a very good service specially after they lowered the price to $9.99 (it use to be $50 dollars a month). For those who were subscribers of MoviePass, should know what happened to it; they ran out of funds and ended up making some very poor choices which Game Pass isn't at risk for because of Microsoft. If MS does lose interest in the service, then we might face a similar situation.

EDIT

I am hoping that Game Pass evolves a little bit from what it is right now, to something where we are issued credits (maybe like 5 credits) for a number of games that we can redeem (as long as we are subscribed) along with a number of games that rotate. Right now, even though there is a lot of variety, I haven't found myself using it that much.

My tactic? What are you talking about with having to pay for PSNow and PS+? is it somehow different on xbox, no, you need to pay for xbox live gold, and pay for gamepass on top of that.

If casuals only play f2p games why pay for gamepass? Just play it actually for free instead of having to spend $15 every month.

Why are you even trying to start unrelated arguments? My point is that Sony have healthy console and software sales and so they care less about conversion and more about retention at this particular point in time, that's it.

There is already 2 service like that. Microsoft arent what made this business boom. EA Play launched first to Xbox One on August 11, 2014. then anuary 12, 2016 (Origin). The fact that ea had this service, and still continue to have it, made it convincing for xbox to join it. Later Ea decided to have EA play+, same thing, but day1 of their games, only exclusive to pc. Then Ubisoft joined them with their uplay+. days 1 on pc.

Microsoft has bigger influence, so it made the system go on fire, when they said day1 to service for their games.

These subs arent the same as movies. the money doesnt only come from subs, but also from dlc and mtx. same thing for xbox but you add games too with it, since gamepass allows you to buy games.

with gamepass, you have all 3 service with gamepass ultimate (xbox live+gamepass+xcloud). while for sony, you cant add those 2 as 1 sub count. you need to pay 60+60 for both, or 10+10 monthly.

Casual sees value with it. They dont have to buy games on their xbox, since they have it with gamepass. and they dont need pay xbox live separately, and can resume their games on pc, or their phones.

They have healthy console for now. but not the future. Gamepass is a ticking paradox, that opens a whole new door, when it reaches 50m sub count. its currently at 18m (23m from insiders), and that is just with no xbox exclusive on the line. Once halo, starfield, forza horizon 5, avowed drops on gamepass, expect that 50m. And once 2k, EA, Ubisoft. Activision sees that, they will try to put their games on that service, to get a piece of that market. This will continue to explode the sub even more.

Spidey Fan Spidey Fan are you an Astrotufer?
I a, just a gamer, who is sick of fanboy crap. I hate people who look down on both platforms, to make their platform look great. I despise people, who look down on people who want to enjoy playing games.

Your plastic means nothing to me. Microsoft wont give me attention or money defending them. sony wont do the same. so why would i waste my time looking stupid, and retard.

So your argument is that MS bundled and therefore it is fundamentally different?

You can get 1 years worth of PSnow and PS+ for $45 right now. That's $7.50 per month. Half the price of your quoted Gamepass ultimate price. Come off it with this "poor students can't afford games" detour of my point.

No and nor should they. They are doing fine without it and selling games and consoles perfectly fine without a subscription service. I don't see millions jumping off Sony to go to Microsoft for game pass now, and I can't see it happening in the future.

you still dont understand it, do you. I can get both service from key seller for 25$ each. The point isnt that. The point, is those 2 are different service, as in they need 2 payment. and arent on 1 service like gamepass.

ps+ is great value for playstation owners, since it allows them to build a library of free games (bound to your ps+). Psnow is a great service too. only downside is the stream on pc.

Xbox live is garbage for the free games. Gamepass on other hand, put all those service to shame (the ultimate one). Its value is super insane.

Its basically its own console. You really dont need to own xbox at all. The ability to play games on your browser is insane. You can play it in your school library, old laptop school. That is the power of Xcloud. You can also downlad xcould on nvidia tv, or google smart tv, which has google play, and play xcloud games. The last coffin is Your phone (android, iphone is browser). Then we have the pc section, which is included in the ultimate sub (you can do solo gamepass pc, but you wont get xcloud). and the cherry on top is ea play. you can play it on xcloud, pc, and xbox (if you own it).

All that value is 15$. Now tell me, is this valuable for casuals, or is it not?

I can't tell if you are agreeing with me, disagreeing with me or just adding on to what I am saying. All I am saying is, you need a company like Microsoft to push a service like Game Pass. Game Pass is much better value wise than EA Play and I am not sure how much of an influence it had with people; as far as I recall, not many people were excited for EA charging a subscription fee. Anyway, my point is simply this, without MS, it would be really hard to offer or aggressively push a service like Game Pass (you also can't ignore that EA only offered EA games and they weren't new titles. I felt it was very barebones when I signed up for that free trial).

I only mentioned MoviePass to show that even a really good service can't survive simply for being a really good service and MoviePass was a really good service. They failed in convincing theater chains to let them play the middleman and theater chains decided to start their own subscription plans. On the gaming side, as you say, it was a little different, where a publisher started it and MS joined in. But MS is also the one who can push it. They got EA to partner with them with Game Pass so things are clearly working in their favor so far.

Now you're just going into salesman mode hard. Again who is talking about key sellers I'm talking offical playstation store right now. You can stream on both on your crummy laptop if you like.

What is your point with all this though? I guess you're just one of those gamepass people that go door to door asking "have you heard about our lord and saviour gamepass". That's great but that doesn’t at all address my point about why MS are pushing hard in this direction. Then you brought price comparisons into it and I showed you the other is cheaper now you're asking me if I find this value for money.
What outcome do you want from this, what do you want me to "get" when you're not getting my point at all?

"Yes gamepass I am a sinner for thou has bought games. I repent and accept thee as our saviour".
Happy?

Reading through the thread, it looks like the guy just wants to argue for arguments sake.
