I mean even the 80s seemed cool, just seems like thus far the 00's have REALLY sucked

The 80's were the pinnacle of pop culture signifigance and excellence, and the 90's were excellent as well, although to a lesser extent. But dammit, the 00's have flat out sucked copious amounts of ass.

The 90's will never be beaten. It impossible. ZombieSupaStar's list is like the nail in the coffin. Better Music, Better MOvies, Better TV shows, Better COnsoles.

Gaming fucking ruled in the '90s, but the music was ass.. 2D is where it's at, and PC gaming has never been better than it was in '96 with Quake. I couldn't stand the dominant music of the '90s. I HATE Nirvana. I feel there has been some excellent movies and television shows so far in the '00s, but it's too early to decide. '90s did give us Get A Life, good SNL, good Simpsons, Seinfeld, In Living Color etc. Definitely a good time for television.

Eh, I thought a lot of the 90's sucked too, looking back at just the good stuff certainly helps though.

But I WILL agree that the 00's (the 2K's, the 21st Century, the Millennium) sucks ass in comparison. The TVs shows alone...

Gaming- i give this one to the 90s. Not only did we get the pinnacle of 2D, but also the birth of (so far) still a lot of the best 3D games. From Super Metroid, to Zelda OoT, Sonic to Metal Gear Solid. So far, the 00s stuff just piggybacks off of what was built in the 90s.

TV-Two words: Reality shows. They have ruined television. the Shield, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and the Sopranos kick ass, but its not enough.

Music-90s by a fucking mile (if we're talking strictly mainstream). Music nowadays is so disposable. Its all about trends and image and worthless shit like that.

Personally I had a slew of bad family and financial problems in the 90s and I'm having the time of my life right now. But other than that (and new consumer technology like multipurpose cellphones, HDTV and broadband) 90s owns the 00s for free.

It's kind of wierd to ask such a broad question and then speak strictly of entertainment.

Music was, without a doubt, better in the 90s, though. Rock music, at least.

But concerning LIFE [overall which decade was better], I'd go 00s. People seem more real and less vain, although I couldn't possibly prove that. And we've got pervasive terrorism! 90s terrorism was ass! BOW DOWN!

the late 90's pretty much sucked as far as music and TV go, this decade is still suffering as a result.

indeed the double noughts blow, the 90's had better everything except for technology. The internet was even better in the 90's.

I can't believe VH1 is already going to do a '90s show already. Anyway, I'm at a different point in my life, so I can't say either will be better or worse, my way of thinking and mannerisms are different.

And in means of gaming, I had an NES, then didn't play games again until 1997. I've played the games deemed "classics" so don't cry for me.

And yes the internet was better in the 90s, before everyone had AOL... it was like a safety net. Too stupid to figure out the internet? Then you won't be bothering us!

Uh, dude, did you somehow forget about dialup? It wasn't that great. We didn't have popup blockers back then. Do you remember warez? It was fun at teh time but let a site popup 16 different windows in 12 seconds and tell me when the internet was better. Uh, and I didn't even mention that four letter word that has changed my life: Porn. Porn is much better and clearer. I remember the first time, about 3 years ago I saw a vid that was a few megabytes big. It was an anal scene and the pimples were B-E-A-UTIFUL!!! High res ass shots revolutionized my day. I'm actually less frustrated now. Hell, I just pulled a few tubes a few minutes ago. I'm totally convinced people are generally more happy with the advent of air conditioning and porn...pervasive porn.

Um... maybe the '90s weren't so great after all.

You know, I'm sitting here right now watching Beavis and Butthead on MTV2 (after just watching Siffle and Ollie on the same channel) and, yeah, I gotta say without a doubt that the 90's were infinitely superior to our current double 0 decade. Music was better, television was better, and music television was most certainly better.

I would trade in broadband, porn, popup blockers and all that in just not have to deal with the amount of morons online now.

The 80's did rock, the 90's started well but not long after Marilyn Manson's appearance on the MTV awards in 96 (i think) it went all down hill. Also the birth of reality tv... bleh

Very true.

The most traumatic event for the nation of the entire decade was that the President got blown in his office. I don't know about you, but that's a pretty clear sign to me that things were pretty bitching at the time.

The 00s aren't bad per se. It's just that the mainstream truly, truly blows big time. If you want to find anything of true quality these days in just about any area, you have to look beyond the surface level and find the road less travelled. It applies in games, in television, in movies, and in society at large. Because what you see on network television, what you read on the front page every morning, what you hear on your local Top 40 station...it all blows. All of it, and certainly far more so than any other decade that I can think of.
