DC Comics regrets hitting us with Bruce Wang

Batman’s nudity controversy made DC Comics publishers reassess other Black Label books

“It’s something we wished never happened,” DiDio chimed in, “because it really took the attention away from what we thought was quality storytelling, and that’s not the way we see this imprint. As a matter of fact, we’re excited by all the books that we have under Black Label. And it’s an important line for us, so much so that we’re actually repositioning some of our older material that has that same tonality and bringing it in and reprinting it under the Black Label name.”

I guess if you were looking forward to Black Label spotlighting the Diana Prince wonder twins, you're probably going to be waiting a while.

Maybe I'm cynical, but the whole thing just seemed like a publicity stunt to get people talking about the new imprint.
And it worked.

It's fine, though, because the Black Label and all of DC's new imprints for different age groups seems like a good idea to me.

It took nothing from it. Bullshit. I got issue 1. It's supposed to be a super mature imprint eh? Great issue, and hopefully a great series. Not that there needs to be any nudity or shadowy silhouettes of genitalia going forward, it was literally in like two frames. Who gives a shit.

99% of my pull list is DC. Nut the fuck up.

It was not a big deal at all. I actually didn’t even notice my first read though. It is an amazing book that is being overshadowed by one page. It is a shame.

Wayne stripping off the Batsuit is literally a plot point in this- obvious if you've read it. Any mature, ugh, grown person should not even "bat" an eye at this shit. They're not printing this for kiddos. Not like I wanna see more wang, nor do I care if It's in the books, I just hate backtracking censorship crap like this.

It's a penis ffs. People are going to be juvenile, but if you start censoring on those grounds you've already shown you're not ready for a 'Black Label'. DC comics isn't ready for such a bold move.

What were they shootings for with the whole “black label” thing. Oh it’s so adult. Better watch out. Uh oh, there’s a silhouette of a cock. Better censor it up going forward. Sorry.

Damnit Didio, grow a pair. I like what DC is doing business wise with their books. Try to make a book for everyone, instead of trying to make all books for everyone. Doing novels, graphic novels, the normal line along with several other publications (even separating the SJW publication to it's own thing), that's all very good, but you can't go messing with those publications, or you lose the purpose of them altogether. Batdick, love it or hate it, got the attention you needed to push comics back into a lime light (even if a small one). Don't back out now. You know people want Supercock and Wonder Hooters. Joking aside, let the artist draw and the writers write, only worry about books with terrible stories.

If it wasn't drawn for pornographic purposes I don't see what the problem is. If they are stopping the series and halting printing the comic book could be worth some pretty change in the future. Maybe hplding on to existing copies is a good idea.

This - if you have a penis copy, hang on to that sucker, it'll be worth quite a lot eventually.

I looked at the picture in question and I'm seriously underwhelmed. Here it is. I'm gonna put it in a NSFW tag although I'm in serious doubt if it's even needed:

That's it? The silhouette of a flaccid perfectly unexceptional penis in an adult labeled comic book is enough to throw people into a hissy fit? I mean, crop out the rest and it doesn't even look like a penis anymore:

I don't get it. What's next, are we going to put fig leaves in renaissance paintings again? Ban Michelangelo's Creation of Adam? Remove Zeus' penis from Assassins Creed: Odyssey? DC, please grow a frikkin' spine!

There were, what, 4 batcocks in the book? I only had a problem with one. It’s the shot of bruce walking towards the viewer (left page). The reason being that his whole body is drenched in shadow with light shinning from behind him, outlining his body...and his dick. And the reason this bothered me is because no other muscle within the torso was illuminted. Not his abs or chest (any muscle that protrudes). It made no sense to have his penis have a lighting source. To me, it looked like a dick was painted in for shockvalue.

Am I racist if I say that, reading the title, the first thing I thought was that DC comics tried to appeal the chinese market with an asian version of Bruce Wayne and it fired back because of "outrage"?
