Cyberpunk 2077 Is Being Flooded With Very Positive Reviews On Steam

Its not really lacking any less than other games of similar scale though.
You can say for example its not a very good RPG or the way you affect the story is lacking, but these same things can also be said about The Witcher 3, or Deus Ex games. Its not really much different from those in its shortcomings.

I haven't played it, but people keep saying the city feels dead and empty, and there isn't really much to do in it. That's certainly not something I felt with TW3.

Also the non-existent police AI etc.

It feels dead on consoles because hardware limitations doesn't allow it to have too much npcs or details, so everything feels empty.
On PC however, city has proper amount of crowd density.

Not like there was much to do in The witcher 3 either. Side quests, some contracts, vendors, some hidden items here and there. The range of activities on Cyberpunk is basically on par with that. Only sad thing is that there is no Gwent equivalent, but there are side-activities like racing and boxing.
Don't know why they say there isn't much to do, they probably expect it to be like GTA or RDR where you have 17 different minigames that serve absolutely no purpose.

Essentially a non-issue. This isn't GTA. And its not like The Witcher 3 was much different in that respect, you couldn't even kill random npcs.

Yup, the PC version was always good. Absolutely loved the density and verticality of the city design. It felt like a lived in place with millions of people packed into a small area. And the story was great as well. I've always said that the PC (and XSX) versions were fine. The PS5 version, is OK. It's the PS4 and XBO ones that were the problem and where most of the vitriol is coming from.

Isn't the PS5 version just the PS4 version without the terrible performance? There's no proper current gen version yet.

This is obviously anti review bombing, can someone please make a thread about an insane conspiracy theroy of how people are buying this game just to upvote it.

Or while I personally don't agree with it being recommended just yet, its consumers rating a product based on the price they purchased it, so if they enjoy it good on them.

What is the average playtime of all these new reviews. I'm very curious.

Update: yea a lot of the newer reviews are only 10-30 hours. The cynic in me feels like they left their computer on and are there to boost it. For ie one says 'GOTY 2023' and has 9 hours on record 🤪

I have no personal stake in this btw; just find it interesting.

It's my 2021 Steam Game of the Year, since I only played this game and Tales Arise apparently. I mean, I did enjoy it and I did have fun playing it. And since I was not trying to look for bugs, I did not see too many. I always thought it was stupid to compare this to GTA games. GTA intentionally pits you against the cops and much of the game is driving and car chases. So of course that is more refined. Cyberpunk is a shooter which allows you to drive. All of the criticism about the police was stupid, since you really do not interact with them in most missions. I am disappointed that the fixes have been very slow and hardly any new content has been added or discussed. There is no way they are working hard on Cyberpunk. They are working hard on other projects and have a small team working on patches and content.

I played 25 hours of it and it is a 7 out of 10.

You spend 90% of the game shooting and the combat is the weakest part of the game, just like in the Witcher 3.
Except The Witcher 3 had some great side missions and an interesting story, even with branching choices.
No the bugs were bad, but it wasn’t the biggest issue for me. Even if they fixed all the glitches the game remains boring.

I know you were just demonstrating the crowd density and such but how can someone play a game with that stutter, its 4K @ ""60fps"". Its not really 60fps when you have a v-sync frametime spike every couple of seconds imo, I'm guessing the person was using VRR maybe?

It's an average open world game that was overhyped and released in an unforgiven state. It's not a bad game, but anyone in this thread claiming it's a "great" game are being dishonest with themselves. Yes it was beautiful to look at, and yes it had a good story and set of characters, but it's one of the most shallow AAA Open World experiences out there, and it didn't deliver on so much of what CDPR said it would. The Civilian and Police AI was absolutely atrocious and meme worthy, and the game had an appalling lack of customization. Let's not forget they sold this game as an RPG, and right at the cusp of launch they changed it to an "Action-Adventure". If you stick to the main story, with some side quests here and there, yeah I can totally understand how it can be a wicked fun ride. But once you start trying to interact with the world and look for other things to do, it quickly falls apart.
Well put. There is objectively no robust RPG elements in the game. It's a fun game for what it is and will provide some hours of enjoyment, but again... shallow.

Had a good time with the PC version and it ran ok. Horrible on consoles in comparison.

This was not a "great" game by most concrete metrics.

Anyone who says the PC version wasn't the problem just stop already ffs....

It was an absolute whopping mess of bugs and fuck ups and was an unoptimised shit pit.

The PS4 version though... Was comical levels bad... The company deserve all the negativity and bad press that was and still is thrown at them as they purposely misled gamers claiming it was something it clearly wasn't.

Mess of a game that's over a year old suddenly turns positive on Steam... Yeah whatever.

managed to deliver the title they initially envisioned
A far stretch. From what they've told and shown us, it's still nit it, but despite being tremendously better than at release.

By the way, I still have NPCs vanishing and appearing out of thin air right in front of my character.

Don't worry, the internet hate bandwagon still has some mileage left in it. It's gonna be a little while longer before it'll run out of gas, get sold for scrap, and the only stragglers left would be the aging rocker boys reminiscing about the good old days when the whole internet laughed at the game.
Do you think Ps5 and Series owners don't deserve to be angry? They promised the next gen update q1 2021, then q2 2021, now it's q1 2022. You think people who had the new consoles bought this without the expectation of getting also getting a version that suits the new hardware? On ps5 the streets are still a ghost town! We also are in a strange situation where it appears that more hot air is being blown our way, because while the next gen is promised and dlc is promised, in a year we've seen very little actually change with the game outside of bug fixes.

Also, are we supposed to forget the blatant lies, like in the apology video where they tried to pretend that they were not aware of how bad the ps4/xbox one s versions were? We're supposed to trust this company with anything? Yeah its all "hate". Let me guess you have the PC version so you can't really see how bad it feels to still be waiting for the next gen upgrade....

I'll go a step further ...how the hell is this the game they envisioned? It's not even the game that they advertised let alone envisioned and we have the proof in those trailers they showed monthly in the lead up to release that had features that are not in the actual game.

It might sound hard to believe but there are people who genuinely do like the game and after a year of hearing how it is the worst thing ever created expectations are low so all it has to do is be halfway decent to impress new players. To me it runs fine on Series X and while I wish the upgrade was here sooner we all know what happened last time they rushed things.

I KNEW the game wasnt going to be the goat like everyone proclaimed from the early footage; picked the game up last year for like 35 and loved it. Great game

Hey, the most important thing is that bad reviewed games gets price cuts quickier, so they already served their purpose. So I'm on ok with it.

The early bird gets the can of worms.

Now, now... don't get so excited. There are more important things in life than a video game.

You need to own the game to review it. Add my positive review to the stats. I must have forgotten to review it a year ago.

You are currently getting rewarded (with exp) for reviewing games on steam. There's a task where you need to review a game you nominated (it doesn't need to be positive btw). That's probably where all these reviews are coming from. The silent majority is more active than usual.

Everyone who says the game ran relatively well on PC at launch is either a liar, or has very low standards.

Yes, it was playable.

But holy shit, pretending like there weren't major flaws and acting like you didn't have to reload a save so many times because a quest glitches out and you cant progress so you frantically find where was the last save you made before the mission start is ridiculous.

Bunch of people who would probably get scammed and robbed in broad daylight by someone pretending to be "Rob from high school."

Dont get me wrong, I love the game from its narrative perspective and how they immersed you into the world, but a lot of us really forget - or pretend - that this game was in any shape or form near to an acceptable state upon release.

It was acceptable by "I'm stuck in a lockdown, life sucks, and god knows I need something to entertain me" standards, not by any measure of an actual standard.

I feel your take is pretty based... but I would add I wouldn't want the team working the holidays. They already worked the last holiday due to how the game launched, 1.31 is how the game should've launched and the team spent months making that happen.

I'm sure they've been working hard because you usually skip a version number if the amount of work in the update represents multiple steps forward.

1.31 came out in September. 1.5 tells me they've been working since then some, hopefully they're now resting until next year.

And the patch and the next gen update seem to be treated separately, which means bug fixes and QoL is 1.5 alone, then there's the next gen patch which involves a full graphics overhaul.

I see. I recently downloaded the new patches of like 50 something gb and have been playing it. The game is really good. No problems for me so far. Really enjoying it. Never paid attention to the side jobs. Even those have little storylines to them.

Edit: ofcourse the police system is still shit. But I don't play this game like GTA, I'm playing it like Witcher. Side missions, side jobs, travelling, main missions. That's the meat of the game and I'm enjoying that.

The character levelling, weapon stats and enemy levelling is also here and there but I have found my weapons of choice and only changing when I get better ones in the three categories.

It's not a perfect rpg by any means. Still way better than tons of games out there. Looks amazing and has good side missions/jobs/Main story.

I'm having fun with it. That's what matters. I will also leave a good review on steam. A 7 maybe.

Game is amazing but the ambition was just too much with shitty consoles limiting everything.

On PC it was def playable from beginning to end. But what a disappointment from all the hype. Either way it deserves all the praise it gets for the right thing it does.

I guess my standards are low. Sorry to hear you had so many issues. I considered Skyrim a broken piece of shit at launch and never really forgave the game, even though I played it at least 2 more times since then. Maybe give Cyberpunk another try once it has been patched to completion. Hopefully in 2022.

I had a single game crash within the intro due to a driver, that once updated, worked great. I may have had to reload a few times, but nothing more than usual compared to other open world games from Bethesda and Ubisoft. There were a few glitches, that once I was aware of them, I avoiding causing them. I can't quite remember, but something with the view and the motorcycles. I don't get worked up when there is a clipping issue with an NPC during a cutscene. I saw a few of those and just had a laugh. The NPCs walking around the city are filler and do not seem as fleshed out as any of the Witcher games. Really not any worse than GTA games, but not as good as The Witcher 3. Truly an example of over promising and underdelivering and scrambling to fix it. Sadly, many games are released in this state these days and for some reason Cyberpunk really seemed to piss people off. I guess The Witcher 3 really raised expectations, but I remember almost not wanting to play it after the disappointment that was The Witcher 2. I guess these guys make really great games every other game. The next game should be great.

So the bar is really set that low huh. No wonder that furry porn game was popular on steam, because gamers (PC or console) in general have no fucking standards lol.

Even in its current condition the game way under delivered, and after CDPR tried to hide it from everyone they don't deserve any positive feedback.

must have something to do with recent sales + steam awards + recent game award nominations, add that to the fact that it's been a year since the game came out and that all of the bugs the casual audience complained about are almost gone after all those patches and it's not hard to see why the game is getting positive reviews now.
