really? ok. so there's this classic movie called 'Blazing Saddles' that examined, in detail (heh), many social issues, amongst them race relations. how it applies, imo, is that, in the movie, these issues, while seemingly important at first, turn out to be really trivial in the greater scope of things. the importance of 'being offended' by characters in the movie was overcome by practical situations that occurred in which the characters had to work together to simply survive. i guess a kind of evolution, for even background characters who were stereotypes to start but became more humanized by the end.
