on that note, people are complaining that this should be for every PSN user . lol@ you.
Let me know when any of the other competitors offer this service.

Steam is the exception since it was recently implemented and does not work for all games.

Recently implemented? Valve added cloud-based storage for savegames in 2008. You are right though, only works for Steamworks titles. However, more and more games are taking advantage of Steamworks nowadays aside from the stubborn few like EA.

Meh..i rarely go back to games that i finish.(never replay games actually once i finish them).
DOnt see any reason to get it.

All i want is to delete all the save files of a game at once. I have like 50 MGS4 saves and i had to delete them one by one :(

Also, how would it work for games with game data?

For example, LBP2 requires LBP game data to access outfits (or I might be wrong).

150mb is not generous enough. I have 86 game saves totaling 135mb right now. MLB The Show 10 has like a 25mb game save alone!

And most game saves are not 100kb. I'd say most of them are 3-5000kb.

I think they can cut down on size by not embedding movies in the file to play when you hover over the save. ie. Ass Creed and The Show, etc.

My guess is they'll increase it if there is a demand for it.

I guess you're not supposed to upload ALL of your savegames if they only offer you 150 MB.
This feature is really handy for copy protected save games like Demon's Souls, Bayonetta, SFIV etc and for your fave games which you've spend hundreds of hours on.

Except it doesn't really work like it should when the saves are protected.

Hummm This might tip me over to the + as my older PS3 has been a worry for me recently.

The 12+3 months free is a fair deal, better than a free game when added up so I may take advantage of that.

Always wondered this.. those with + may be able to answer this. I understand that any free games you download and play will be taken away if your sub ends but what about your saves or even trophies earned in those games? Do you get to keep those?

Yeah, you keep all that. It's just the game itself "expires" so you can no longer start it. Everything else remains as it was.

Nice, could be a little slicker, love the way steam does it but priorities.

Cross game/party chat surly is above this on the list.

Anyway go Sony for addressing a bulletpoint that gamers do want instead of silly little features nobody uses that some platforms put their development time on.

I know, right? Oddly enough, next to Valve, Sony seems to be pushing in that direction most at the moment.

Yeah, there's a 24 hour wait for copy protected saves, but i'd rather wait then never able to back it up and/or put it on a second PS3.

They seem to be most aware of where parts of the industry are trending towards. Mobile content will definitely move entirely to the cloud first, and the rest of the market has the potential to do so after that.

Ain't happening, sir. I can't believe people still cling to the notion that the PS3 will ever see this feature. It is, by far, the most requested feature people want from the console--the fact that it hasn't been implemented yet should be telling enough that it's not ever going to exist.

Could a game that is made around this feature have it as an autosave option? Much like the youtube and twitter stuff, its up to devs to support it i guess, but even if it makes a "temp" save game that gets uploaded once a day automatically it could be a start. Unless of course this has been confirmed and Ive just not quite understood it.

I'm cool with that. The Go was a failure, but I applaud their attempts at brute-forcing the industry into a DD scenario. Although, in saying that, I should also say that I don't approve of the closed market that is PSN. It should not be the only place I can purchase titles from. That promotes nothing but consumer abuse, and I'll never buy into it.

It's been in dev-kits for years now; the reason it's not on everyone's PS3s already surely has to do with some crazy politics rather than technical issues. We've been less than two weeks away from getting it in a retail firmware release twice now. The first time it (just before Uncharted 2), it apparently got bumped for inclusion with PS+. The second time (the PS+ launch), it got bumped for... who knows? Steam integration? Google voice integration?

360 owners should be happy with this announcement since it's highly likely that MS will feel compelled to match this in the near future, and they'll probably make a better job of it as well.

Again, I'm not really meaning to "promote" the Xbox in a PS3 thread, but I can't let this kind of slight misinformation go by.

I can certainly see why people may not know about this, but Xbox Live already has cloud-based save, albeit in a slightly different form not as full-featured as PS+, it's been a part of Xbox Live basically since the start. Implementation does however vary from game to game, many don't have it at all (like f.ex. Oblivion and Fallout 3 which is save-everywhere big save files) but many XBLA games, including games like Halo 3 does have game progression auto sync to the cloud along with your profile.

(It's the same with 3D; just because Sony is heavily promoting it for the PS3 doesn't mean the 360 is completely missing it..)

Anyway, PS+ cloud save seems like a very nice option.

I'll just move along now..

This is the first feature that makes me consider PS+.
I still don't think I'll go there, but cloud saves are a compelling drawcard.

The 24hr lockout on copy-protected saves sounds like a good compromise. Well played Sony.

This is the first firmware update that adds a feature I care at all about, and it's one that'll make me buy psn+. I am worried my 60gb fatty will die everytime I then it on and lose all those locked saves, so this is great (even if I wish it were free)

I have it on good authority that the claims made by some devs that it is(was?) in the devkit were 100% true.

I suspect that maybe the rumour about an unnamed publisher cock-blocking the feature because it wouldn't work with their older games might have actually held some truth :-D

This would be a lot better if it autosync'd to the cloud.

This plus also 150MB is seriously tiny for cloud saving. C'mon Steam gives you 1Gb, DropBox starts you with 2Gb, Gmail gives me 7.5GB... and those are free services.

There are a lot of games with significant file sizes and it would be best if you didn't have to worry about any of them.

it (supposedly) has been implemented but for some reason not being shown publicly.

The Afrika save file is 400MB.
this is what i thought. fuck. how could they screw this up? i asked earlier in the thread how big some saves are because i remember seeing some with quite a few megs. 150mb isn't going to be that helpful. 1gb would be decent. but since google and a bunch of other places let you have 8gb of storage for free in your email. 150 mb for a pay-program sounds fucking stupid.

i will definitely use it though because i've been burned in the past with losing all of my saves on my ps3. i guess ill just have to prioritize saves.

Couple of questions:
As part of the $50 per year subscription, members will get 150MB of space in "the cloud" for up to 1,000 save files. Copy-prohibited files can even be backed up, with the caveat that users can only restore files that have been deleted from their systems once per 24 hours.
- Is the 24 hour restriction limited to copy-prohibited files or all save files?
- Does this clause mean that I can back-up/upload saves as many times as I want, but can only retrieve them once every 24 hours?

Overall I'm excited for the feature, but a 150MB fridge for a paying member is kinda surprising. I expected them to generously offer at least a 1GB of space.

Applies only to copy-protected. And can upload all you want but can't dl on another system except every 24 hours.

Edit: changes.

I think 150MB of storage for the + folk is fine. All of my saves will fit there probably 3 times over. Not too sure how I feel about the 24 hour lock on locked saves though....

As for those 50+ meg save files... who the hell wants to sit and wait for a file that large to be downloaded / uploaded? And especially for games that auto save/load.... urk.

Honestly, as misleading as Sony was with Qriocity cloud music streaming, I have absolutely no clue what they're actually trying to say there.

I'd like to think that the only circumstance in which we'll run into the 24 hour time limit is when syncing to a system that has no saves for that particular game and account, and that's how it reads, but I doubt we're that lucky.

My biggest save file is SSFIV at 18 mb @_@ why does a save file for a fighting game need to be that big?? Games with locked saves: You Don't Know Jack, Bayonetta, S&SASR, adhoc party, DMC4 network data. So like 1/3rd of the PS3 games I got are locked and it'll only prolly get worse from here.

Maybe it an so much more would be free if people didn't pay for it ~_~

That would be seriously fucked up and I don't see that happening at all.

Alot of the scams being pulled this generation didn't seem plausible until they happened anyway!
