Borderlands 3 |OT| Vault Hunter, Welcome Back To The Borderlands

I do hope the DLC as part of the season pass provides an immediate raise to the level cap. I passed on playing the DLC for Borderlands 2 since it took Gearbox so long to raise the level cap. Only then did I play them.

I can totally see Gearbox doing this, if only to spite the Offline Majority.

And if they DO... it is a dead game.

It took Gearbox 3 months to raise the level cap in the first game and like 6 months in the second. So I wouldn't be surprised if there is a wait.

What a disappointing last boss and a shitty ending. That stupid deus ex of Lilith closing Elpis? How? doesn't make any fucking sense. The writing in this chapter is way, way worse than in the previous ones. And I hate how they pushed that insipid Ava character - which will be the main in the next game, I'm sure. Oh look, everyone's a siren now!

Gameplay wise it'sgreat, the gunplay is always fantastic, but the writing really took a hit. Give me back Anthony Burch.

I played hundreds of hours of Borderlands 2 across multiple platforms. So disappointed with the Pre-Sequel that i havent even paid attention to 3 at all.

Do any of you have any opinions about whether I should pick it up or not? Thanks.

Worst writing of 2019? I'd say yeah.

Yes. I absolutely hate the pre-sequel. BL3 gameplay is fantastic. Map design is a bit worse than 1 and 2, IMHO, but the gunplay is amazing, and the slide and climb mechanics add a lot to the fun.
The writing is bad. Just bad. And this comes from someone who loved BL1 and BL2 writing and humour. The main characters aren't as interesting as 1 and 2 cast, the humour is not much fun, there's a bit of annoying pandering, deus exes and things that happen BECAUSE. Hell, even the opening sequence (and its music choice) is bland and uninteresting.

Side note: never buy anything Borderlands related that isn't made in house at Gearbox. Notice how all the DLCs made by 2K and TPS are so damn inferior to "the real thing".

By the way, question for veterans: TVHM or Mayhem III? I don't care much for doing the story all over again, I just do it for the loot.

Also, is there a UVHM after TVHM?

TVHM all the way down. Just stick to the main quest. you can come back to the main menu to cut dialogue altogether in long sequences (it doesnt work with cutscenes, sadly)

You can do a run in ~5 hours that way

With this game being $13 on Amazon, and the disastrous attempt at playing some Fallout 76 on PS4 with my brother, we grabbed a couple copies of this. We just want a decent co-op game to play.

And it is. It's pretty decent. It's leagues ahead of Fallout 76 already. There's a performance option for the Pro that keeps it up to 60fps a lot of the time. The story attempts are really bad and the humor is horrific, but it's still fun.

I still haven't tried most of the post-launch DLC stuff yet. I bought the season pass and everyting, I should at least jump back in to hit the new level cap with my gunner moze

Some of the new guns are pretty fun and super OP, the problem is a lot of old guns are now basically trash.

I bought the season pass and the casino dlc is pretty good, the hammerlock wedding is good to but I haven't gone through it yet. If there's one Gearbox has nailed though it's the aesthetic design of the levels. The environments are frigging gorgeous.

Is there one gun particular I need to look out for? Like god tier?

If it was 13 on PSN I’d get it. Would turn off all the voices, turn off subtitles and just make it a podcast game.

Well we played some more today. We're level 12 I think.

The long and drawn out attempts at a humorous story are really making it hard to keep going. When the story, characters, dialog, and menu interactions are all really bad, and the shooting is average at best, you really have to make your own fun over the mic.

edit - almost level 20 now and getting close to being done. I just don't know what they were thinking or who this is for. Would a 12 year old even find any of this funny? It feels like kids would find it lame and adults would find it annoying. You can just see the "writers room" while playing. A bunch of recent college grads with pink half-shaved hair sipping Starbucks and going around the room taking every first idea out of fear of upsetting each other and fake laughing all the way up to the point where voice actors are hired.

Poppin to say I copped this yesterday for $30 on PSN and I’m having a decent time with it. I’m still on Pandora and playing as Zane the Mick. Guns feel good (specializing in shottys and SMGs), it looks nice and the music is tight. It also helped a bunch that I turned the voices down to zero and turned off subtitles so I have no idea what the hell is going on. The writing and voice acting in these games is Cringe City USA.

The game improved significantly once I did this. The Calypsos might have some of the absolute worst video game dialogue I've ever encountered. It's pretty shocking that they went from Jack to them.

I think the writing in this entire franchise has always been shit tier on the level of something like Family Guy. I’m just glad the option is there to avoid it. In fact, the amount of options you're given in general is kind of impressive.

IMO the writing in 3 is worse than any of the other games, specifically because of the Calypsos - and other horrible characters such as Vaughn and Ava.

I enjoyed 2's writing for the most part. It was by no means Shakespeare and definitely had its fair share of cringe, but Jack in particular really carried the whole thing in my eyes. The writing in 1/TPS was generic and forgettable to me, and TFTBL was pretty good (and it's a shame how they blew off so much of it in 3).

Vault hunters and Vault of Glass Hunters take note - today brings another free update to Borderlands 3 with some, er, familiar sci-fi vibes.

The game's Takedown at the Guardian Breach update is an endgame gauntlet for up to four players featuring new enemies and loot, tuned to push experienced players.

There are platforming sections, environmental puzzles, a miniboss and final big boss encounter, in exchange for themed weapons and gear.

I just started the new DLC, Bounty of Blood. Any pointers?

It seems like maybe they adjusted the loot algorithm to drop stuff for your build. Or (rather more likely) I have just gotten extremely lucky with drops these first 30-45 minutes.

God, I can't believe how they destroyed my crazy love for the brand.

Just keep playing 2 and you are fine man.
The presequel never happened right?
Well then ... just do the same for 3.

Just play ? its the best dlc out of the 3 imho, just the balance tuning has been a little too generous. Watch out for the blokes called Poke

Don't get your hopes up. It's not as good as the second DLC. It's not bad, though.

Ok, good to hear it's the best of the three. I wasn't enamored with the past few offerings. It does feel a little easier even on Mayhem 2 mode, which is alright by me. I just want to enjoy the game.

I am really hoping for some more Tina DLC. Full blown D&D mode again please.

Yeah everybody is waiting for this but the next one is going to be inside Krieg's mind

I hope the hopefully inevitable Tina DLC is gonna be a fully fledged expansion between this season pass and the next one. Everybody wants it lol

Well, I am well into it now and so far these side NPCs are completely uninspired. They looks like background fodder, not characters who we are supposed to remember the names of.

And they went a step farther than Naughty Dog with the trans pandering by creating Juno. This is, straight up, legit, a huge muscular dude with a woman's voice.

What is happening to games?

I'm like you. Borderlands 2 is my most played and replayed game. Easy. TPS didn't grab me and I never completed it. I've completed BL3 once and started another playthrough. It's a fun game with a pretty bad story. Some of the weapons and abilities are great. I did stop my second playthrough after a little while but I would like to jump back into it again.

However the game didn't really grab me like the 2nd did. There's just something about it I can't quite put my finger on, but it just doesn't feel as special or as fun as BL2.

2, especially with Tina's DLC, may be the best value in gaming around. It's like 200 hours of highly enjoyable material for cheap.

3 I have not been impressed with. The story feels a little phoned in. The changes to how classes work was great but feel like it doesn't make enough of a difference early on. And the DLC compared to 2's DLC is mediocre at best.

Edit: oh, and as for the TPS I only lasted like 8 hours before I gave up. The oxygen and movement mechanics were poor and the story seemed to be going nowhere. I understand some kind of side studio that later crumbled made that one, and it makes sense. What a shitty game.

The open world sections are atrocious. The interior, instanced "dungeon" types of areas are way better. But overall, it's just an extremely mundane game. The gunplay is nowhere near satisfying enough to warrant the length.

You can tell they thought they had a GAAS type of game here where players would play for months and buy all the DLC and cosmetics and shit, but the gunplay gets boring so fast. And like we all have said, the story aspect is one of the worst I've ever seen. I got a free copy that was purchased for $13 on Amazon and I wish the person who bought us copies could get his money back. And it's pretty hilarious reading that the paid DLC we "missed out on" had a man with a woman's voice to educate us on biology.

This game's balance has shoved rockets up its arse and ran over a firepit.

II'm too scared to spend the hours involved refarming my gear for the new level cap, because you know they're going to nerf things.

Just finished the game today and really enjoyed it. It may possibly be tied with BL2 as my favorite in the series. When I first saw footage of BL3 I thought it looked just like BL2 but playing the game (especially in 4K) there's a clear generational leap in visuals. Also Tyreen is one of my favorite voice actresses ever, really cool voice. Guns with legs were funny to see as well. Next I'll probably dive into the DLC (I plan to buy the 1st and 3rd ones) and then afterwards probably see what's up with the post game content like raid bosses, hunting down legendaries, etc...
At first I wasn't sure which character to pick but after sitting on the character selection screen for several minutes I finally went with FL4K and I've really been enjoying him.

I'm replaying borderlands 2 right now and I want to ask something: is bl3 less... noisy? bl2 doesn't stfu sometimes, it's just voices talking and yelling at the same time.

Anyone else still playing this?
I finally finished both of the DLCs that I bought... the first one was awesome and the 3rd one was average. My character + gun combo must be overpowered because I killed the boss of the DLC in like 10 seconds or less lol.
I'm currently lv 56 so I guess I'll find a place to grind to lv 60, then start farming some gear, grab some more achievements, and see what other post-game stuff there is to do next.

Anyone pick up the second season pass (or at least the first of the two DLCs that's out for it)?

The new Arms Race mode is pretty fun. Put simply it's a rogue like where you drop into the map with zero gear and have to find weapons, shields, etc. all while circles contract on the map (like in a Battle Royale). You find legendary loot you can't use, but can send to your bank at stations around the map (and after the boss). My buddy and I beat the boss twice once we figured things out, but still a lot of luck involved in finding decent gear. But fun with risk reward of deciding whether you have time to make it to and clear a loot room on the map before the circle contracts and kills you.

It also launched with new skill trees for each characters. I like Amara's. Main downside is that the Arms Race mode doesn't let you use any skills/abilities so there's no new content to use your new tree builds in. Just replay the old content/farm for gear that's ideal for your new builds. Other gripe I have is the loot you send back from Arms Race just ends up in your bank and can be hard to find if you forget what it was named as there's nothing to distinguish it as being from that event.

I'm glad I waited until PS5 to play this game. I'm starting to wish I just bought it on PC, but it's great having something to play on my new system. Graphics are pretty and performance is good enough. Just drops when things get really hectic. This game is a great companion piece to the PS5 and I wish more games had this kind of quality upgrade.

From what I can see where other games have patched in their updates, this game seems more like a port. Is that correct?

Anyone else enjoying on "next gen"?

Finally started playing this game properly with my friend. We have a couple hundred hours in BL2.

Humor and writing are standard BL, its not genius stuff but i chuckle every once in a while. We just defeated that floating ball.

UI is taking some getting used to. i dont like how the inventory layout looks. Looks much more cramped than BL1 and 2 and PS. Also gold weapons are super common in this game. They are the item of the day in nearly every vending machine.

I also really dont like how they changed the name of Badass points and they aren't accessible until you beat the story mode. WTF is that?

But the core gameplay remains fun, and I like fighting new and different enemies. The low gravity sections were awesome as in PS. Right now my friend and I are only playing the story missions to try to beat this first difficulty so we can unlock badass points and TVH, then we will play for real including side quests and the DLC.

If anyone missed the excellent 2013 BL DLC Tiny Tina's, it is free as a standalone product on the Epic games store until Tuesday:

It's literally just that DLC, but balanced around a new playthrough with no need for a player to have to go through a portion of the BL2 campaign again. Supports coop, shared storage, all that.

It kind of is an ad. Epic giving it away for free with the "Wonderlands" branding, full network support and all to entice people who didn't try it. When one launches the game they get a big splash ad to preorder Wonderlands, and the link is prominent in the main menu.

I can't knock the hustle. Also, at $10 on Steam / Xbox / PlayStation, it's a fantastic deal for someone who either never played the DLC or even BL2 base. It's also about 5-6 hours in length, a little shorter if running with a pal or two.

One thing I noticed - on PC, the lighting seems a lot less vivid than I remember it. It doesn't look poor, but I recalled much brighter brights. Maybe I'm just getting old or my new monitor sucks worse when it comes to lighting than my old one did.

Ya its great but those dragons are super tough to beat if you only have 2 players.

Just hit 80 hours by doing another playthrough of the game plus DLC 1 & 3. It's just as fun as the first time around and I hope we get a BL4 announcement. My opinion of DLC3 has risen and I like it just as much as DLC1 now. Flak is still cool but Moze is now my favorite VH in the game by far. Piloting the Iron Bear is so fun and you basically curb stomp whatever you're fighting.
