Bethesda Softworks is truly a powerhouse in gaming and Arkane is just another reason why

When that deal was done, the biggest get IMO was everyone except BGS. They have created some awesome worlds to explore but in terms of RPG gameplay and story, not even in the top 10.
I respectfully disagree.

BGS WAS the reason they got Bethesda.

The Elder Scrolls, Fallout and soon Starfield are franchises thar are much much much more valuable thany any other IP or studio that was included in this deal.

Just go back in that acquisition thread, or look around still today how many people were crying about the fact that their favorite franchise nolonger exists on Sony. That copium was hard to swallow, harder than anything in the past decade.

Theres still lots of people who are in denial a year later.

Phil isn't stupid. He probably got a demo for Starfield by Todd and maybe got to see some early work on TES 6 aswell, he knows these games will move Gamepass sales and evem xbox's.

And the cherry on top is all the rest, Id, arkane, tango, machine and all the rest.

Hell back in 2002 Morrowind was the 2nd best selling console game on xbox, right after Halo 1...Microsofts best selling franchise to date.

Oblivion was one of the most sold games early in Gen 8.

Skyrim was one of the most sold games ever and sold 20+ million copies on launch day if I remember correctly with the only game outselling it being Modern Warfare 2.

They all won hundreds of game of the year awards.

Downplaying the fact that TES and Fallout are one of the biggest if not the biggest western IPs is just crazy.

Not even a Spiderman or Naughty Dog game is that popular/sells that many consoles no matter how you think of the quality of these games.

Sales matter

PS fanboys here acting like they have anything else to play besides what MS & Bethesda kindly offer them lol.

Just be happy you’re even getting this game at all and it’s one of the best rated games of the year.

Otherwise you wouldn’t turn on your PS5 until Feb 2022.
Pretty much how this thread went

pathetic to say the least

Going by the contracts we know for sure that Sony will have the first right to refusal for the game going on subscription services. That's the reason it's not on PC Gamepass either.

I think before September 2022 (when it releases on Xbox and PC Gamepass) Sony will put this game on PS+. I think a month or two before that for good measures.
First right of refusal means that all Bethesda has to do is offer it up to Sony on ps+ in exchange for $500m and wait for the inevitable no thanks.

That is a possibility, yes. Or perhaps they have already chalked up the basic pricing structure in the contract. We don't know the exact details of the contract.

The sad thing is that arkane games don't sell much so for M this is more of a quality studios than a money maker one.

Don't worry, once the games are exclusive to Xbox/PC/Gamepass Bathesda games won't be as well regarded

Arkane games never had first party marketing to push them. Microsoft will push their games going forward. As long as their games sell well and drive many to Gamepass, that’s fine for MS.

Yeah, i mean if they get payed it's all good, but i would love to see one of their games selling like 10 mil copies outside of gamepass, they fucking deserve that more than any other studio after decades of great games, even just for their personal pride.

I'm more thankful for GamePass especially because of Arkane.
They don't need to worry about selling bazillion copies of their games. They can make whatever games they want and have huge playerbase to play it.

I love Arkane and hate fact that gaming audience is not willing to put their brains to work while they are playing games

No doubt Phil played Starfield and knew it was going to be the next big franchise in gaming, getting everything else on top of Bethesda like Doom, Quake and the rest of Zenimax made it even easier to pull the trigger on the purchase.
Good to see the whole suite of studios delivering high quality games.

So far one thing uniting Redfall and Deathloop is that both seem to have off-putting visual design for *my* tastes. What's the point of immersive world, if I have zero desire to immerse myself in it.

Nothing to do with platforms, MS' Everwild looked *amazing*, and I'm still sad that it's the one in the most danger.

I guess now with MS money, Arkane and othes will improve their graphics greatly, which many people claim not to care about in a first place, but I sadly do. Wish them luck in any case, not everything's for me and it's ok.

More like Phil knew the then pitiful situation with his xbox game studios, and the timing of zenimax selling off bethesda was perfect, I remember when people here were capping about the lineup being fine before the acquisition lol, good times.. The beth. studios fell into ms lap at the best possible time. And now we get to listen to delusional Xbox enthusiasts for the next few years who think MS would have played a role in green lighting or managing the bulk of development for most of these games, You really wont see MS involvement and how it relates to bethesda until after there current pipeline of games have been released, so ill be curious to see how they plan to manage them in the current model they are pushing so strong for as it comes with a lot of subtle implications. Its going to be interesting decisions to make.

There is a section on this in the contract too.

Let’s separate fact from wishful thinking. You haven’t seen the contract.

Lmao, I’m happy with this. I play the Bethesda Studios games, you focus on jeering and not playing. Sounds good 😂

imagine not playing either PlayStation or Xbox exclusives this generation. Can’t be me.

No but I'm referring to the contract that states it can't come to different subscription services. It has a section on this to cover this scenario.

You say "pitiful" but the facts don't back you up. In the 13 months from launch they will have delivered Gears Tactics, Flight Simulator, Psychonauts 2, Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite to Series consoles.
Those released have all reviewed well, Forza Horizon has a track record of delivering and the Tech Preview of Halo Infinite was well received.
Next year we start seeing the ownership of Zenimax added to that.

We already saw people downplaying Bethesda games and the same will happen to every Xbox game, no matter the studio, no matter how good the game is.
It happened in the past, it happens right now and it will happen in the future.

I like how you added halo and forza to try and solidify your stance, these games aren't even out yet c'mon now. So essentially 12 months with no software to differentiate and showcase your consoles potential, back in the days this was the true purpose of having exclusives not for list wars.

P.S. im sure youre still flying around in flight sim amiright?

Oh dont worry, toward the end of this gen (after an onslaught of great Bethesda/Ninja Theory/Obsidian/Compulsion/etc product will have released), haters will simply say "this entire gen was already in the pipeline before Microsoft bought them...next gen well see how Microsoft handles all these teams."

I've played the Halo Infinite multiplayer and we've seen plenty of Forza, they're releasing in the time frame I stated. Go check the Metacritic of the others, all 80+ games.

Hardly "pitiful".

I found K2 the other day on flight sim, brilliant experience.

The only game for me personally that irritated me with regards to this purchase was Doom but ill just get it on PC. If some of the announced stuff is any good it may persuade me to pick up an XSX (more powerful than my PC) but they have to prove it to me.

Do you work for the media? youre good at bending narratives, no where did i mention Ninja Theory etc. because their stuff that they plan to release this gen will be a result of xbox game studios influence. There is a reason i mentioned bethesda in a bethesda based thread, but im sure thats hard for you to comprehend just like its hard for you to comprehend that the vast majority of these games had no influence from MS at all that you will see coming from betheseda (the good and the ugly).

Do you know that for a low $35 a month, you can pick up an Xbox Series X on All Access, complete with Gamepass Ultimate? $24 per month for two years for the Series S.

All that stands between you and bitterness is $24 a month!

Out of the big 4 western publishers Bethesda is definitely the most diverse. So yea I agree it was a good get by ms.

Edit. On second thought it’s probably between them and EA

No doubts in that. The modding community is one of their core pillars that BGS is standing on...but they don't deny that fact...they embrace it. So many people like to make fun of Gamebryo/Creation Engine but its also quite moddable and "easy" to do so. They also ALLOW you to mod the shit out of it, aka "mod it until it breaks". Not many game developers let you do that...i don't recall even one who does it the same way Bethesda does.

...but this is why, 10 years later Skyrim still has 24,252 people currently playing on Steam, 6 years later Fallout 4 with 19,474. Hell even Oblivion and Morrowind get played again and again as of this day. Because of modding these games will never die out. Never.

Meanwhile Cyberpunk 2077 who broke 1mil players on launch day now sits on 11,672 current players. Roughly 9 Months after release. Skyrim hat 55k people 9 months post launch. in 9 months post launch they released Dawnguard DLC and Hearthfire DLC with Dragonborn DLC coming 3 months later that added a massive new landsize roughly 2 holds of Skyrim big

Not allowed to have an opinion? I've seen several hours of this game. To me it looks average and not worth a buy til free or a big sale. Even if Crashes weren't an issue.

To me personally, it looks like a worse version of Dishonored.
Its a way better version of Dishonored, imo

In every way. Characters, story, gameplay, voice acting, even level design

Watching videos are not the same thing as experiencing the game in this case

I also wasnt feeling. Bought it due to the reviews, and I'm now loving it.

Most of the work on the deathloop was made before the MS purchase. I’m curious to see how they do afterward. A lot of other studios have struggled after being purchased and being forced to produce under MS oversite. Hopefully they can keep making good games.

That’s a question for tomorrow. Looking forward to digging into Desthloop on my PS5 this weekend.

Where's this magical contract that keeps Deathloop off Gamepass? I need to read it.

Before any news MS was buying Zenimax, Deathloop had already been announced as a Sony/ PC exclusive. Im sure in 6 months or so it will be on MS store.

Bethesda is a shit studio and publisher that happened to buy some great studios. So "powerhouse" is debatable.
Also happened to release one of the BEST SELLING RPG's of all time and just about every game made by BGS proper sells gangbusters, their acquisition of iD and Arkane just shows how smart they've been in purchasing studios that can make incredibly good and well received games. But by all means. Cry moar.

Ok?
This is the post somebody made:
It's in the contract, or at least it has been leaked from the epic case, that Sony has first refusal on putting it on a subscription service once exclusivity period ends.

Then somebody else said
Pretty easy work around. MS just makes a "definitive edition" or director's cut version of the game and that gets put on GP.
To which I replied there is a section in that contract for this scenario.
My point is that if it's like that contract then there is no work around by making a "definitive edition" or whatever because there is a section in that same contract prohibiting it. It would be stupid anyway not to cover this. It would be like saying "we pay you to create an exclusive but feel free to release a better/more complete version elsewhere". It defeats its purpose and makes it worse. These companies were not born yesterday.

it never really made any sense to take a contract between Sony and Capcom, and imagine it’s the same between Sony and Bethesda.

Isn't it pc and ps exclusive? Is it only timed exclusive?

The problem is you see this as a fanboy war.

Microsoft and Sony doesn't give a shit about that. They are competitors, yes, but they've shown good karma bout both.

Sony doesn't want to ignore this game just because its released by Microsoft. Sonys ps chief won't be sleepless over night because of it.

Congrats on sonys first party games. Why aren't ps plus filled with exclusives every month if they'd rather want to focus on their own games.

Oh yeah, that's right. Because Sony doesn't give a fuck about who released them and Microsoft wont be small bitches about it if it makes sense to get it on plus.

Arkane, the developer, as well as the Deathloop IP, is now owned by Microsoft and Xbox after Microsoft purchased Bethesda for $7.5 billion. They're an Xbox first party studio. Sony made the deal with Bethesda for Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo before Microsoft purchased Bethesda. Microsoft honored the deals. This game ain't touching PS+ unless a deal was already made in advance to put it there. Microsoft won't allow anything that could be placed on Game Pass to be put on Sony's service.

Fallout 4 is part of the Playstation Plus Collection due to an existing deal. Once that deal period is up, whenever that is, Fallout 4 will be exiting PS+

There will come a point where the only way to play any existing Bethesda title prior to the effects of this deal on a Playstation system will be to buy it. But for all the biggest new releases going forward, such as Elder Scrolls 6, Starfield, any future Fallout single player titles, Redfall, a new Doom, a new Wolfenstein etc., you will need a PC or an Xbox console. Indiana Jones has a shot to show up on Playstation since we don't know the details of that deal.

Outside of ES and Fallout, they are not as valuable or high end unless you want to itemize games lots of us have played.

This is no exception.

Wolfenstein 2 : The New Colossus is one of the greatest shooter campaigns ever made. That alone proves this isn't true.

You are also ignoring Doom, which is at the most popular its been in decades. Bethesda now being part of Xbox and Microsoft significantly raises the number of people who have eyes on and are willing to support and play their games. Redfall genuinely has a lot more hype because of the Bethesda purchase.
