Beaver Colony Sim Timberborn Arrives Next Month ​

A release date for Mechanistry's beaver colony sim Timberborn has finally been revealed: you'll be able to play this game on PC, Mac, and Linux in Early Access in a little over two weeks.

Timberborn was first teased over a year ago with a short 30-second trailer. The team at Mechanistry has continued their development since then and made some serious progress. Now, we know that the game will be launching on PC in mid-September 2021 — check out the new Early Access trailer to get a feel for the game's vibe.




Timberborn has players taking command of a civilization of beavers to build a city. Humanity is long gone and it's now time for a new species to rise up and build the great cities of the world, although it won't exactly be easy for these little guys.

Not all beavers are as protective of nature, either. Thus far, we've seen the brown-colored Folktails faction building wonderful wooden structures. Yesterday, the game's developers revealed a new faction with a somewhat different philosophy in a video: the Iron Teeth, a group of grey beavers that seeks scientific progress — even if it harms the environment.

Aside from building tall wooden structures, your beavers will also have to carefully manage their water supply. The post-apocalyptic weather switches between temperate and dry seasons, so storing water will be an important part of the game. Critically, droughts will get worse and worse over time, essentially turning this into a survival game, too.

When is the Timberborn Release Date?​

The Timberborn release date is September 15, 2021, according to a Steam Community news post. Mechanistry promises to have a full set of patch notes for that day detailing all of the changes coming to the game since the most recent public demo.

Timberborn is shaping up to be a pretty interesting colony sim. You'll be able to play it in just a few short weeks; for now, you can add Timberborn to your wishlist on Steam and check out its official website.
