Battlefield 2042 Won't Receive Any New Content Until March 2022, Leak Suggests

Of course you are defending these devs. You are siding against the consumers that are talking about missing features.
As if pointing out that a basic feature, that is as important as a scoreboard, could ever be described as crying.

Nah bud, I agree it sucks that it was gone and it should have been there day 1, I mean....I'm literally fucking telling you the game should have been delayed and I'm happy this feature is being worked on in a realistic time frame and not rushed like the rest of the game, I don't see how that is "against the consumers" as you think someone must be in fucking tears over this EVER TIME in order to be a consumer or something lol

You are mad at news of them fixing and addressing a feature, that sounds more like siding against consumers then anything tbh. Sorry I'm not as upset as you on them fixing the game or something lol

Its good that they actually are listening and trying to fix some of the obvious crappy decisions. That being said ....its gonna take SO SO much more of that to fix that playerbase and community. They really shit the bed on this one.

Agreed completely. At this point what ever they got planned, they are right to stay tight lipped and put it out when its actually ready to go. They need like 4 Pacific BFV updates back to back at this point lol I don't know what would really fix it or get people on board.

All of BF3 and Bad Company 2's maps, remake of Metro map but in the future (likely a given) adding on all of BF4 and Bad Company 1's maps.

Its hard to say, as I think all that sounds great, I don't really know how many really would care if all of that was really added in.

Making the specialist optional, allowing default classes in 2042, allowing all the weapons in the game, in 2042's main maps (I still don't even get the point of separating all of that as 2042 is the future and a fucking lawless one at that, no pats are literally without a nation, why would it matter if one of solders had a Type 88? lol )

If all of that is done, I don't even know if its enough to fix this entire thing, but I don't really know these days, for all we know this game goes on to move massive units and they delay putting out another BF to allow the new DICE structure to focus longer on BF's next title or something.

Like how we saw SFV have a whole generation of content, twas a massive fuck up at launch, but a full generation of support is also pretty good too. So who knows with this one. I feel the MP community moves on fast so its hard to tell.

Whos making an excuse? I literally stated "It sucks that it was gone".

I'm simply not focused on crying about this every time they fix something.

More focused on updates, fixes and corrections to the game that make it better, not being negative 100% of the time bud

P PaNaMa nah I disagree. It sucks it was gone, but I'd rather have it working, functional and ready then deal with another broken element. So I can't say there is no quality control or gamebreaking element, I'm not a software engineer have no clue what is going on with their code to pretend that was working weeks or months prior or something. I'd rather simply have it working later and delayed to be done right then rushed, but I'd rather have this entire game delayed for the time needed then this whole trainwreck tbh.

Should have never released this way.
I disagree completely with your take. It doesn't merely "suck" that its gone, it is indicative how detached this development group and it's leadership team are from the game, the franchise, and the fans. You can't fuckup a scoreboard because you rushed it. It's an overlay of math. A HUD element that can be toggled. You can change its style, font, opacity, color and make it sleek or whatever - but you can't fuck it up cause you "rushed it". After 3 years, is it really a rush job at this point? Who are we kidding here? Scoreboards and server browsers are BASIC FEATURES of Battlefield, for like 20+ years.

P PaNaMa Gave you the perfect answer to this.
A scoreboard is not some ultra difficult feature, that takes years to implement. It´s something basic that all games online have.
And the fact that they were unable to implement it at launch speaks volumes to their lack of competence.

I don't now about their engine and how that is added and all the other issues they had to say how soon it should be out or not.

If it was taken out based on a design choice and just of now was worked on to be put back in, I just can't say it SHOULD be this long or that long etc.

All we know is that this game was rushed out, missing many key features that should be day 1 basic features and by your own post a detached development....I agree, but that is why I agree with the time it will take.

They fucked up too much already right? The whole fucking launch was a fuck up, I'd rather avoid that and have this worked on properly as I have no clue when they even started this thing to pretend it should be here today or something lol

Put it this way, I didn't even put much faith in this game coming out in Nov 2021, let alone the score board not being fucked up cause it was worked on for 3 years, the whole game was worked on for that long and look at all the issues lol I trust that they fucked this game up royally, I trust that enough to believe if they need more time, it should be given so I'm not complaining about it coming out next month. I'd rather have it working and functional.

Their engine is Frostbyte and it always had a scoreboard.
Even when it was used on games by other studios, it had a scoreboard.
It´s not some mystical feature that only programing genius can implement. But it´s the thing that incompetent devs can screw up.

It's Frostbite, the scoreboard code exists in their game for decades. If they were not sure how to write one from scratch, they could literally copy/paste and debug it from there.

So, if you are right and it was taken out as a design choice, it only reenforces my point that the leadership team is out of touch with its game, and its fan base. No excuses should be made for the people in charge. The scoreboard is just the most obvious glaring thing people point to, but adding it back in doesn't address 99% of what is wrong with this game. It is sterile man. The maps are dogshit (I have to work now, so no time to write an essay but suffice to say the map design is horrible.....the question is does anyone left at the studio know *why* the maps are horrible? And Why are there no weapons. Why was that UI allowed to continue past alpha? How did it pass a weekly meeting 2 years ago? Why Can't I manage my squad? Where is the voice chat? There is no quality control in seemingly *any* decision made about this game's direction. Not in any fucking single aspect.

I agree with you that it will take a lot of time to fix. My concern is, no one at the studio seems to understand why everyone is so mad. It's like they don't even realize what makes Battlefield Battlefield anymore. How could they ship a game that was so "ahead of schedule" in their minds. That's my real concern. Genuinely makes me doubt there is any saving this title. Does anyone there really want to fix the game? does anyone there even know how to? DICE's response so far, from what I've seen anyways, seems to be "the community expects too much" which is indicative they really have lost the plot.

"We’ll have the complete set of update notes available to browse this evening."

I'm not sure what the list is made up of in terms of fixes tbh. I don't think a full list exist yet for 3.2 or 3.3.

Their engine is Frostbyte and it always had a scoreboard.
Even when it was used on games by other studios, it had a scoreboard.
It´s not some mystical feature that only programing genius can implement. But it´s the thing that incompetent devs can screw up.

I agree, but I don't know why they didn't have one this time. If it was by design and now they just started putting one back based on being incompetent, I can't just pretend as if I know WHEN That would really be lol Sure it should have been day 1, but neither of us have a time machine and the original designer is gone now....

So all we know is that the new leadership is listening to that feedback, got them working on a new scoreboard, its coming mid to late next month, I just don't know enough about that situation to really say when it really should be here no matter how normal it was before, if someone dropped the ball at launch, during development etc I don't see the use in pretending as if thats relevant now with new leadership literally working on bringing it back, for all we know the time its taking to come back, is the amount of time it really would have taken if put in normally like those past BF titles.

Lots of should haves with this, should have been delayed, should have listened to more feedback etc, but whats done is done, if you or I were in the shoes of Zampella and was like "we need that scoreboard back asap" what if asap really is February?

So if it was handled by incompetent devs before and it wasn't even some glitch but it wasn't designed at all and was never made to be in the game, it means they still need to make one, so from that point on, its really hard to say when it should be here when you factor all of that.

Exactly, it's indicative of the direction Dice wanted to take the series. I said it in another thread, these aren't "missing features" in the sense that they rushed the game, these were obviously designed this way from the beginning. These changes were planned, and whatever that's their prerogative. It's their ip they can do what they feel but it's very obvious these changes aren't what Battlefield players are looking for. So now it's a mad scramble to reverse these changes as quickly as possible.

Which...good luck. I've had some good times with the game, enough so that I'm going to shelve it when Dying Light 2 releases instead of selling it off, but I'm going to drop it and return later in the year to see what else they've changed.

It's even simpler than that, it's just UI stuff. It's a table that pulls values from some database or other repository and displays them. Cells that can be moused over, perhaps context menus. Extremely basic. TypeScript, React, whatever, things kids learn in high school now in some places (hell could even just be HTML/CSS with Javascript, I haven't bothered to check what they're using). Additionally, VOIP is a component that is essentially off the shelf, another trivial to implement component.

It's safe to conclude that if they're struggling to get these very basic things into the game so long after launch the likelihood that they have any plans to perform the more complex work needed to fix the core issues with the game is next to nil, and even if they do, we're looking at a year's time to get it all worked out. Just think, a studio that can't get a scoreboard up in a few days attempting to rework the class system? Build and test new assets to make existing maps compelling (cover, worthwhile destruction, spaces that are more than bare white rooms, environmental events that actually have an effect on gameplay, etc)? These are things that just seem beyond this team at this point.

But I bet they start cranking out cosmetics quickly. Oh yea.

Of course it´s incompetence. There is no logical reason for a Battlefield, or any MP game not to have a scoreboard.
We all know that most of Dice´s team has been leaving the studio in the last few years. And they got replaced by people that don´t understand games and much less about Battlefield.

I'd say its a mixture of both. I believe it was designed to not have it, I also clearly believe a lot of the game was rushed and had no business coming out in 2021.

If they are in a scramble to add back features, it means they need to be put in as in they didn't design it prior to this, so that being said, I don't mind the mid to late feb update for that feature and would rather they take the time needed.

BF being my main MP game, I'm not really going anywhere lol, but I agree that many will move on and the community is about what the current game is and they'd need a lot of updates and a solid stream of content to get people back, but I'm ok with it taking a bit of time as we don't need them continuing to rush shit out, thats how we got in this situation in the first place.

h, they could literally copy/paste and debug it from there.

I don't know about all that lol I trust EA is as greedy as people think, if that shit was that easy, they would have had it weeks ago. This publisher is known for cutting corners and sometime tells me its simply not that easy as they would have been doing that.

I think they probably had some design for a scoreboard back when it was first being made, they decided to not have one based on some "everyone out here trying to love one another" vibes lol, the backlash happened, Zampella took over, they made then bring back those ideas and started to work on that new scoreboard etc. I feel it was as easy as copy and paste, EA would have been forced that update to appease, it doesn't really sound that way though.

My concern is, no one at the studio seems to understand why everyone is so mad.

from what I've seen anyways, seems to be "the community expects too much"

I disagree with all that. If anything their PR is doing a better job then EA themselves, last thing I'd do is attack that team as if they are the ones that set that release date and oked all those weird changes, that sounds like a publisher move and a higher up move or something, but I can't say that no one at the studio understands why everyone is mad or the community expects too much, I don't see enough to make such a claim.

Look at the thread you are talking in, its a topic literally talking about new updates, patches and fixes coming. So I'd say they've done ok with PR and its best they leave it to what is coming and in the works 100% and communicate those fixes and feedback to consumers. Thats all we can ask and that is being done currently, now if they said fuck off, we don't know why you mad and then proceeded to give no updates, feedback and no scoreboard, then shit I'd agree with you. lol

The game needs works, it needs a shit ton of updates, content, fixes and overall design changes, but I can't say that the team doesn't understand that, why tweet this? why update the game? Why communicate any of this if they don't know? So I think Zampella will do a great job and I was more worried about how that game launched, then how its handled now, I'd only start to really worry if they put out no updates and said nothing at all or something. I don't think its wise to put out a roadmap, but I don't think its wise to go radio silent either, I think they've put out just enough

funny enough it just harps on how the developers haven't learned anything in YEARS. They are so out of touch with their fanbase and have been for such a long time. They bumbled around so hard with BF5 from PR to balance changes and general problems.

People are anti battlefield fans because the principle of battlefield games aim towards traditional game modes, strategy etc. people are upset how the launch played out like Cyberpunk. I just thought battlefield always had a long shot at winning the cod vs battlefield theme.

So it should be rushed out instead or? Plus if you look at the list, more then a scoreboard is being worked on.

I'd rather a realistic timeframe, then some rushed shit like what we got at release.

Take their time, focus on a quality updates.
Well duh, no one wants a rushed product/update but it's sad the community even has to beg for this feature and it won't come out until mid to late February. 4 months after launch lmao

Whats bananas is if they remastered 3 and 4 as one package at higher resolution and running at a solid 60 fps, they would sell an absolute shit ton of copies of this. Would it be lazy? Sure but I would still buy it.

What if they just ditch the 2042 core game and focus on moving toward total support of Portal?

Sad part was I had so much fun playing Portal on day one. So many people were playing it. A shame where it all went.

Im not as hot on Portal as I was at launch. There are still changes that were made that makes the maps play differently. They tweaked some sliders to make it closer to the old games but movement speed still feels higher and gunplay is just different.

ut it's sad the community even has to beg for this feature and it won't come out until

yea its sad they need to listen to feedback, its sad this didn't come out at launch and they didn't have a time machine blah blah blah lol

Might as well just fucking say this every time a feature or content or update is made. Community gave feedback, a feature is coming based on that feedback, you have to wait for it to be properly made, how someone can force this into some "sad" thing is beyond me, but it seems like this news has upset some lol I've said several times this game should have been delayed, these features should have been day 1 etc, but the focus on new leadership should be what they can do now to correct this game vs crying about what could have been, should have been, seeking a time machine. I have no clue how the fuck that helps anyone in this situation and it simply sounds like being negative for the sake of being negative regardless of what is being done to correct this situation.

So it simply sounds like you are prepared to copy and paste this every time a update, features or content comes into this whole "sad the community even has to" and or "oh noes it won't come out until" lol I wish it was delayed too and had all these features day 1 as well, I simply choose not to dwell on it every time a feature comes out. Why would I view it being addressed and fixed as bad and um "sad"? smh.

Because I am far more pessimistic than you. Yea sure they "listened to feedback" blah blah blah. Hype product up, release the game in a broken and embarrassing state. Come out saying we will do better; we are listening. Patch the game up and complete it for a year or two until an acceptable condition. Rinse and repeat.

I don't care how good BF4 is now; it took a damn long time to get there. Same with BFV and now 2042. How tiresome.

Maybe lol

BF4 is likely the reason why I trust their post launch support. That game was a fucking wreck at launch and it ended up being one of my favorite online FPS games over time. I don't know if I'd say same with BFV tbh as I felt that games launch was much smoother then BF4, same with BF1, in fact i don't think any BF since BF4 has been as bad as BF4 was that first year as its the first time I literally couldn't play it.

I think its simply because I just don't play other MP titles anymore, I mostly play single player games and BF is the only MP game I focus on nowadays and I'm more willing to focus on those positives, updates, new features, content etc.

It's a larger issue of the industry for me. I'm just sick of games released in a broken or very content barren state. It gets really old after a while and I'm starting to feel the weight of that with Halo Infinite too.

At least Sony and Nintendo first-party games come out very polished on day one. Sometimes MS knocks it out of the park as well but the 3rd party publishers are mostly guilty of this.

Come out saying we will do better; we are listening. Patch the game up and complete it for a year or two until an acceptable condition. Rinse and repeat.

I don't care how good BF4 is now; it took a damn long time to get there. Same with BFV and now 2042. How tiresome.
I think too many publishers are getting away with releasing unfinished games by calling them live services. Fucking halo doesnt even have coop, imagine a halo game without coop. Id honestly rather they have put out infinite next september, feature complete

The fans are the problem

Under-rated comment right here. When I see people claiming there's nothing wrong with this game, I wonder if they're just blinded by brand loyalty, or shilling.

More than likely the first. When people defend things like the broken state of COD or the intital state of Halo Infinite's battle pass and store, they think they're helping defend the franchise. In fact, they're doing harm by letting the devs think it's ok.

While I do really love the gameplay in Infinite (I haven't had this much fun since Reach) I think I am far more lenient with it because it's "free" on Game Pass. If I paid $60 for that game I would be pretty damn pissed. I think I would have preferred to wait as well.

It really sucked to tell my buddy we couldn't play co-op on day one. We always did that in prior Halo games. By the time it comes out, I probably won't care.

Maybe, Sony is talking a long time with Factions for The Last Of Us 2 and Ghost Of Tsushimas online portion did come post launch, that being said, its hard to see how their new FPS will come out thats being worked on by those ex COD developers, if they knock it out of the park and it releases solid, maybe the issue really is big 3rd party AAA publishers rushing out games. We don't get enough from Sony or Nintendo in that area so its really hard to tell.

maybe thats the point, what if they want gamepass free to play etc to be what relaxes consumers and have them more lenient with issues if its just called live service or something, who knows.

well now that you bring it up, the past Halo titles did come out with a lot of stuff day 1, maybe the ability to patch, update etc really did give an excuse to just put out unfinished games as during the original xb days, Halo did have a ultra hard mode, co-op, MP etc.

I don't disagree with the concept of supporting a title over time as that isn't new, but SOME of the things that are being put out over time I just can't accept as some normal update or feature for post launch, co-op, the single player mode, a fucking scoreboard or voice chat shouldn't be a post launch concept, that should be a day 1, so I believe many are using this as an excuse to just push back what should be basic day 1 elements.

We had MMOs before, we have updates that add new features before, but some of these features wouldn't even be post launch stuff in MMOs 20 years ago, they'd be day 1 basic stuff. So I believe the whole live service thing can work and has worked for many games for decades, but at the very least it should be used solely for content and not to have features added over time that should be basic day 1 stuff. I don't know how hard the big 3rd parties are hit with development cost (MS included as they are just too big now to pretend they are some small first party element anymore) as these projects easily can have over 2k to 3k developers and span many teams, maybe that pressure has led them to piece meal out these types of things while using free to play, game pass, live service, free maps as an excuse to put out subpar games at launch.

Look at how BF4 launched....look at how its praised right now, maybe indeed that is part of the problem as even I can say I'm guilty of accepting this practice based on some amazing games that were patched, updated and corrected over time. Maybe we all hold that hope that a game can be um "BF4'd" into redemption or No Man Skyed lol Those come backs make many feel like there is a chance and things can be fixed etc.

maybe that did more harm then good.
