Battlefield 2042 Reveal Trailer

Who cares if bots are optional or not? There's literally no downside to them being there until the server fills up or new plays replace others who left.

The is Opt Out by default is better as most players won't even change the setting and it will mean players like me who will opt out will have far less people to play with by default.

Opt Out by default is better overall and allows those who want to play with PC players the option.
The downside is playing against bots. If a server shows 128/128 players, I want 128 players, not join the server and figure out 100 of them are bots.

Look at that awesome kill I just made!! Oh.. I killed a bot.

Of course cross play and cross platform is defaulted, it's not an easy implementation. Plus it makes the pools much larger, so, why wouldn't they default it?
I agree with cross-platform with Xbox and PlayStation being the default, but the Opt In/Out that was mentioned early is including PC cross play or not when matchmaking.

Really it should be like this for default:

Console Cross Play [ x ]
PC Cross Play [ ]

That should either pop up on the games initial start-up and/or be clear and up front on the main menu off to the side.

Even counterstrike has bots when a player leaves.
I still find it fascinating that years ago, people asked for bots when there weren't bodies that could fill slots. Because, well, bots are better than empty slots.

But now we're at a point where suddenly people don't want bots, sooooo. Okay, would you rather it just be empty?

I don't get it.

Trust me, I'd much rather have bodies over bots, but I'd rather have bots than nothing.

The server won't show bots as players.

The server will show real player counts and the remaining numbers will be bots. Showing bots as real players wouldn't make sense as every server would show up as full.

Id rather be able to see which server has bodies, and which does not.

This makes an assumption you have a server browser, and another assumption bots wont count towards players in this browser. Do you have a source?

You literally mentioned a player count in your post so I was assuming you were talking about the server browser.

No source, just common sense from a development standpoint. It makes no sense to have the player count, especially when you take queue spots into consideration.

The bots will always be filling up empty spots (unless custom servers are a thing and the option to turn bots off is there). So every server would show full at all times and thus render the player count pointless.

Wasn't there a browser in V? I legitimately can't remember as I didn't play a lot of it. I think I remember BF1 having one. 3, 4, and Hardline as well.

I think it's far to assume there WILL be one, especially in a multiplayer-only title. I just wasn't sure if there was a confirmation of any form.

Yes there is. You had to hit Triangle (on PS) to bring it up after selecting the mode in the MP overview menu.

And in case anyone missed the EA Answer thing. Here is the info about the AI/Bots:

---

So far we’ve told you about the three distinct experiences where we’re introducing AI Soldiers, and how you can play with them:
  • Multiplayer – AI soldiers are used for server-filling capabilities, making it easier for you to matchmake when you want to play. Players always have priority over AI when playing multiplayer.
  • Co-Op – Allows you to play together with friends, against AI soldiers.
  • Solo – If you wish to perfect your skills for multiplayer, you can even play alone against AI soldiers.
If you’re new to Battlefield, AI soldiers are a great option to learn the mechanics of Battlefield 2042 at your own pace without the pressure and competition that comes with multiplayer.

So how will AI Soldiers actually play on the Battlefield?

AI Soldiers are intended to play the game like how you would play it yourself. However they are not designed to be Specialists and cannot use Traits and Specialties. You will see them undergoing certain tasks such as using the vehicle call-in system and engaging with vehicles, or capturing objectives. Whilst they can’t use the Wingsuit, they do have the intelligence to decide between engaging with you via enemy fire, flanking, throwing grenades or even reviving a downed squad mate.

Can you completely opt-out of using AI Soldiers?

In the All-Out Warfare set of experiences of Conquest and Breakthrough, AI Soldiers are used to backfill servers and you cannot opt-out of playing with them. However, there is a cap to how many of them you can encounter in a multiplayer match. In general, you will not experience more AI soldiers than players unless the match is still filling-up, or almost empty. Players will always have matchmaking priority over AI.

As an example: if there are 120 players out of 128 players currently playing in a server, 8 AI Soldiers will join the match to help even out the teams. Should a player leave, another AI Soldier will temporarily replace them until a new player joins the game. We’re providing them as a helpful option to ensure you won’t have trouble matchmaking and can fully enjoy the all-out warfare chaos you can expect from a Battlefield match.

Since AI Soldiers can be used in Solo mode, does that mean I can play offline?

Battlefield 2042 is a multiplayer-only experience. So while you can play Solo against AI Soldiers if you’d like to practice, it will be in an online setting.

I feel like 128 is solid but in 2021 with games like planetside 2 being out for 10 years I've seen battles with 4x that onscreen. It is more about well designed gameplay over raw numbers though, just a bit disappointing after hearing the rumors about huge scale battles.

I don't think bots have ever been included in the player count, What makes you think they will now? All that will do is prevent real people trying to join the server because they think it's full.

Battlefield 2042 details cross-play and progression, robot dog jeep stuff, call-in tablets, AI Soldiers, unique specialist gadgets, a watered-down class system, so many rocket launchers, the lack of some playable interior spaces, and teases for EA Play Live happening soon.

Battlefield 2042 is about to release a ton of information at EA Play Live, but don’t tell that to DICE community managers who tracked down Daniel Berlin, Senior Design Director to answered a lot of questions ahead of time in a massive blog post.

We now have confirmed details about many different aspects of the game. There will be cross-play and progression, both of which are being tested later this summer. We learned about the robot dog, whose name is Ranger, and how it will follow you and protect you with its life. We learned that players use call-in tablets to bring vehicles down mid-battle and also that the system is limited by team points that vary based on map and mode. There were details around how AI soldiers will fill or balance matches. AI soldiers will also do many of the same tasks as players but can’t be specialists. It was confirmed that Sundance’s wingsuit is a unique piece of gear and nobody else gets one. We learned about the new loadout system where anyone can make a choice between carrying a rocket launcher or bringing items such as ammo or health packs. Finally, we got more details on maps such as out of bounds being expanded, skyscrapers not having much in the way of interior spaces, and penguins being confirmed on the Breakaway Map.

Battlefield 2042 releases October 15 or 22, depending on which version you get, and makes a lot of changes to the formula, such as a new specialist system, larger maps, a freeform weapons system, a revamped Conquest mode with sectors, storms such as tornadoes, map-altering events like rocket launches, and a massive 128 player count. Up next, we are expecting to learn about the not-battle-royale Hazard Zone mode, remastered classic maps, and what the newly branded Ripple Effect studio, formerly DICE LA, is making.

Thw worst of all, very good:messenger_crying:

Go on, Jaguar! Let's ruin games for more and more generations!!

For once I did hope they would bring again some micro destruction like BBC2. Now it's clear the reason they didn't even spoke about destruction yet (when usually they flaunt incredible progresses - later to be nowere to be seen anyway).

DICE's Battlefield 2042 releases on October 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC, costing $70 for current-gen platforms and $60 on PC and previous-gen. It's already ruffled quite a few feathers with its lack of a campaign mode and previous to current gen console upgrades being tied to the Gold and Ultimate Editions. Fans could reason that the lack of a campaign is inconsequential – after all, Battlefield's most popular and defining feature has always been its multiplayer. Battlefield 2042 seems to be a return to the over-the-top action and destruction that fans have been wanting for years.

But as with the game's pricing and monetization, there's plenty to be concerned about when it comes to the gameplay and multiplayer. Let's take a look at five worrying things here.

I hope they add m&k for consoles so I can drop the xim.
interesting you say that as the Series X beta of back for blood allowed you to plug in a mouse and keyboard after you jumped into a game
and it worked but you could not start the game with it plugged in so it was forcefully disabled

Mouse and keyboard support is supported more so on the series x and has a much bigger compatibility than the handful of keyboards and mouses that work on the ps5
so i could not see a reason as to why they would not allow it

If your gonna be in the same lobby as a pc player your going to get rinsed over and over again

I hated bots in Titanfall 1. The problem was they weren't visually distinct enough, so if you came around the corner and faced 3 players - only one human - you had a split second to acquire the proper target and you'd often lose the fight cause of it.

Sadly even though the beta at first was fun for me but quickly got tired of so many aspects of the beta I deleted it early I find myself wanting to play this silly game.

I so enjoy the tension and precision needed in Hell Let Loose but also want that new arcade style of shooter that isnt COD

Let’s get you caught up on Battlefield 2042 ahead of release. We’re here with a full overview of features like All-Out Warfare, Portal Mode, Hazard Zone, Specialists, when to play early, post-launch seasons, and more.

Battlefield 2042 goes into early access on November 12 and fully releases on November 19. There is a massive amount of information to catch you up on. Even with a couple of preview events and an open beta, it’s hard for players to gauge exactly what the game will be like at launch.

In this video, we’re catching you up on everything. We have a full breakdown of the 10 Specialist characters available at launch, what classes they fit into, and what their Specialties and Traits are. Then we’ll go over what we know about the maps and how they are different or similar to past games in the franchise. Even though there isn’t a campaign, we’ll tell you the basics of the story, which involves a looming war between the United States and Russia and the "No-Pat "characters caught in the middle including Irish and Oz. After that, you’ll get a full breakdown of modes, including All-Out Warfare, Portal, and Hazard Zone. The latter, Hazard Zone, is probably the biggest departure from previous Battlefield games of the past--it's a squad-based competitive match consisting of phases, a battle-royale-inspired one-life system, and its own currency called Dark Market Credits. Finally, we’ll cover new gameplay mechanics like the Plus System and what we know about post-launch seasons, including their battle pass system.
