Battlefield 2042 is bleeding players as launch issues continue

lol I would like Grand Operations to return. I think it could work great in 2042, add in those past Portal Maps and just be like "OMG we can't believe those fucking No Pats got a time machine..........just roll with it bruv" lol

lol there be lots bigger AAA bombs. The fucking last BF lol BFV sold some of the least, lost support earlier then scheduled and the PR was just a nightmare.

Anthem
Mass Effect Andromeda
(proceeds to keep listing EA games lol)
Fallout 76
Marvel Avengers
Lawbreakers etc

The saddest part of a lot of this, is its hard to gauge where they go from here as the game isn't BFV or Hardline flops, its literally one of the fastest selling BF in history so for all we know EA continues a lot of this, but the fact that they are not having them do Battlefront, Zampella has taken over, tells me if anything they plan to double down on BF using Zampella's direction.

If this was worse then BFV's launch, then I'd say we have something to worry about in regards to flops, but 2042 is a bit different, its closer to CP2077 in terms of "flops", as in flopped in the public eye, PR nightmare, update nightmare etc, yet sold a fuck ton of units. So as weird as this sounds, it might have been better if it flopped worse then BFV, was removed from PSN like CP2077 and ordered to be returned to EA thru outlets, because the game is running, working and not really near the state of 2077, it means its just working enough to not be in that area, broken enough to have a list of complaints, but not like 60 crashes and claims of features that should be in the game based on marketing, that are not in the game. EA is smart enough to not claim such things. So it leaves us in a weird situation where it sold enough to support, working enough to not remove from PSN, but that makes me question what the incentive will be for EA to really give them more time and allow those teams to correct the next title.

Remember folks, EA doesn't get paid based on feelings, those sales happened regardless of how anyone feels on Reddit. Likely did good enough to keep seeing sequels if a Mass Effect 5 is being made or even this game in general after BFV. I think the game easily sold less then it could have, but not enough for me to call it a bomb, we've see worse sales factually in the series. Bomb in terms of design, bugs, sure. I'd agree to that, but in that area I'd say CP2077 takes the cake on that one.

?? Link? Scoreboard coming next month, update coming next month.

There is always a couple devs working on a BF title lol

To my understanding, DICE Sweden is still working on the game (as this shit basically is getting remade lol) , Ripple Effects is still working on the game for post launch content. I haven't seen anything to suggest otherwise unless you have some news for us or something.

Its actually Ripple Effect that normally does the post launch content and we haven't seen anything yet to judge how that is going to be. So I'm not really sure.

The fact that we even got lots of post launch content after BFV, a much worse launch tells me that isn't going to be much of an issue, the fact that DICE is rumored to not be doing another Star Wars game even more so sounds like they might be planning on a longer cycle, or having them do some other free to play thing or something. Either way, I trust Ripple Effect will do a good job with that post launch content as I'd argue that is one of the few things that can be counted on with the BF series. I'm guessing it will be a bunch of Portal Maps.

"Cyberpunk 2077, was no were as bad as BF 2042 or Anthem" I greatly disagree. lol I'd say if anything I agree with the comment regarding Anthem, but I don't believe CP2077 was in a better state then 2042. That game was fucking crashing dozens of times thru 1 session, I've only gotten 1 crash in 70 hours of playing 2042. 2042 is not also lying in their marketing telling us a list of things that don't exist in the game, we simply have a list of things that imho SHOULD be in the game, massive difference. Both have design issues, both have glitches, but I think CP2077 takes the cake based on the crashes and the lying regarding its marketing.

If you mean by launch sales or something, disregard lol. CP2077 13 million, BF 2042 4.2 million.

You lucky.

I noticed its happening less after the last patch, but I could never say its the only bug i"m having. Still having that reload thing were its stuck on the screen or the low ammo, still having the load out reset etc. I feel even if they fix all of that, DICE will likely still have to stay on board to correct the design stuff, never mind just post launch content by Ripple effect, the game needs those corrects not just in bugs, but simply the basic design before DICE can even move on to the next BF title, if they even do that this soon.

Tihs game needs like a 2x Pacific update ala BFV lol Wake Island remake, Metro remake, all BF3 and Bad Company 2 maps, but I digress. We'll have to see how the game is after the scoreboard update as the next update sound much more substantial. Hopefully by then they have a preview for that March content.

@STARSBarry I think Gamerguy just means they didn't encounter those same bugs, not that no bugs are happening.

Even the crash stuff you are talking about didn't happen to me and I'm playing on console.

70 hours in and I've yet to crash once, will literally show my crash reports. The game needs work, you'll never see me disagree to that ever, but its not in CP2077 area where I've literally had 60 plus crashes (a fucking record mind you, I've never in my life had any game crash that many times) I spent 64 or so hours on CP2077, 60 something crashes lol 70 hours in BF2042, 1 crash...I literally had more crashes in BF4 this year, then in 2042. It has issues, crashes I can say don't seem to be one of em, at least not to the degree of BF4, CP2077 etc.
Yes you keep stating that BF2142 is a commercial success as a fact. It was true it got off to a great a start - but do we even know at this point? EA refused to share sales number in investors meeting. What do we really know about sales?

I just asked for a refund from Xbox. Ill Let you know how it goes. Maybe played 10-15 hours and gave up. I explained the game is not a complete game missing advertised modes and full of exploits and cheating. Also mentioned the game is not in a finished form and should have never been sold.

Worth a shot I guess.

Feeling entitled for a refund after a playtime longer than most singleplayer FPS games is seriously ridiculous.

Ask them to swap it out with halo instead…..oh wait 😂

Players down to 2300 on Steam. I know consoles factor in, but it isn't in the Top 50 on Xbox.

PS I'm not sure, but I imagine it isn't very huge with Dying Light out on all platforms.

I don't see this surviving with an adequate player base until Summer, no way. I doubt people will give a month for a scoreboard(lol), considering all the heavy hitters coming out(GT7, Horizon, Elden Ring).

Ok. I don’t feel entitled at all. They have a refund request option there for a reason. I barely played longer than the trial that was offered and honestly it was probably less than 10 hours. I’m just guessing at the playtime but no one can deny the game is was sold as one thing which it is not.

I’ve got this installed on my Series S and seriously want to enjoy it as I loved BF3 & BF4 but holy fuck it’s just so bad. Doesn’t seem to be any intelligent map design, no choke points; just spawn in the middle of a fuck fest and get sprayed from someone who’s seen you spawn. I want to enjoy it but it’s just so shit.

There’s a serious dearth of quality FPS games.

Halo Infinite I love but it needs new content.

Titanfall 2 is past its heyday and Apex is good but I’m not super in to BR games.

Destiny 2, I’m not sure how good the PVP is and when I try to drop in to ‘campaign’ I’m not sure where to begin without getting slapped.

Super disappointing state of the market at the moment.

2009 - Modern Warfare 2
2010 - Halo Reach
2011 - Battlefield 3

We’ll probably never get back to back quality like that again :messenger_pensive:

Never stated that once so....I don't know what to tell you tbh.

So....first, I don't recall stating "BF2142 is a commercial success"

I mean, I think it was a great game, but I never stated anything to my knowledge on here on how that game did in sales.

Second, if you mean 2042....I never stated shit about it being a "commercial success" as you'd need to quote me on that or find any thread where I've ever made such a claim or something lol

As for the rest of the post, I'm not wasting any fucking time even commenting on the rest of that as its based on an assumption at most, i mean you had hours to even check your own post for errors and didn't, why should I or anyone believe you actually read any post with me making a claim like "BF2142 is a commercial success"?

So selling a fuck ton of units or being one of the fastest selling BFs in history, doesn't always mean a "commercial success", those things can happen and the publisher can still see a loss, we need to factor how much it cost with so many platforms, what they expected, what are their long term plans, as in they may not even be seeking to make money from the game sales itself, they might be seeking money from a deep install base going free to play or something, as in the first few months sales pay for the development, the long term sales of MTX or something is pure profit.

So it being a "commercial success" or not is up for EA to define, we don't fucking know what they want to do with this game or IP in the future to even tell so soon, thats like fucking asking if World Of Warcraft is a "commercial success" 4 months after launch, as if THAT is going to tell you what 17 years is going to net you or something lol So that is up to EA to define and I think its too soon to tell, we don't know what their plans are to say either way.

Scoreboard update delayed, can't make this shit up

I'd rather have it delayed and them add in what we stated, then fuck it up.

This whole mess is based on them rushing shit and bad design, so I can't complain about a delay in the context of this.

If it came out barebones, broken and glitchy, you'd just say "Scoreboard update is broken, can't make this shit up" lol

Its better they get the bad press for a delay, then bad press for more broken features or something.

Says the man who writes incoherent drivel in most of your posts and peppers them with..lol…lol…lol. I made one slip on the keyboard. Big deal. I never stated that this was a “quote” either. The gist of your post (and multiple others) states that 2042 has been selling well but you don’t really know. You will reply with a wall of text that I won’t bother to read. I have one advice for you - get to the point.

stop reading mid way lolz. I don't think you either can read or have read anything of me saying "commercial success" thus why you have such a odd post with so many typos and misspellings and weird claims you can't really back up......lolz. Dear god, you can't even re-read your own post to correct errors, but someone was suppose to take what you stated seriously on what you THOUGHT was being said? Reading is fundamental buddy.

Added to ignore, have a good one.

Yeah because the legacy feature of a scoreboard seems pretty tricky to implement

Maybe for them based on how its being put in after the fact, it is.

So if the feature is buggy or limited or giving them issues or "tricky" that sounds like reason enough to delay this shit instead of rushing it out. I mean you already know they fucked up so many features, why act shocked that yet another feature is fucked up? I'd argue one of the most agreed upon things regarding this game on this forum, even by people who like it, is that it should have been delayed and had no business coming out fall 2021. I see no reason to pretend a feature being delayed is now a negative based on the very nature of this game's release.

I’m convinced it was a woke move to protect sensitive players. Make it fun for everyone etc. No hurt fee fees seeing yourself constantly at the bottom. They would have had one of those absurd diversity/inclusion positions advising them on how to do it.

There is no way the stats aren’t under the bonnet, most basic thing to be counting and adding these towards the games win/loss.

Agreed.

Even the early screenshot they showed of the scoreboard legit looks like what they had as a plan B or something, like "lets show no deaths, we want not hurt feels" lol or "lets not show the enemy team, we don't want the player to feel bad about them getting more kills" and they just finally said, no scoreboard at all "we don't want no judging herez" lol

So I don't really know if it was just a "rushed" thing as many features have come out on the BF series post launch, but how that designer did a lot of this game simply doesn't tell me it was a missing feature, it tells me that feature was never suppose to be in the game at all.

This delay might be to make it what its suppose to be and not what the past designer was forcing on that IP. Maybe they don't want to take half measures or something.

I am terrified of Microsoft and am always concerned about them.
Don't know why people complain about the scoreboard but you have to play the same shitty map over and over again because you have no server list. Have they added server lists? Haven't played this shit for weeks so I'm asking.

Thanks for putting me on ignore “lolz”, my time here at Gaf will be more pleasant without your replies. An expected move so you get the last word in your own “safe space”. Pathetic.

Not launching with a campaign automatically sets you up for a rocky beginning.

True, but that one of the few choices I even agree with that they made recently. If they are going to have this much trouble with the IP, it makes sense to focus all of that energy on MP solely imho. I'd rather have that budget spent on Portal, then Single Player mode.

No one ever cared about thier SP campaigns; let's be real here for a moment. However, it made DICE look worse when they delivered a shitty broken MP. People will naturally be more critical of your game after a move like that, even if they didn't care about thier SP offerings.

Agreed, I believe that intensified this situation even more. However, I believe over time more will remember this as a BF that gave us Portal and if they are able to actually put all BF3, Bad Company 2 and 1942 maps on the game, I think most will take having Portal as normal offering over SP.

Don't blame that social media managers job with that lol

That being said, I actually think its a bad idea to even continue some of this free MTX for certain characters. They should just do like they did with BFV and make them all interchangeable.

I'm not blaming the community managers. That must be one of the most shit jobs in gaming when your game angers a lot of people.

They are going to be getting the full force of that for a while.

BFV's Pacific update was revealed March 2019, release October 2019.

This game has delayed any major release like that and its likely being completely redesigned, so I expect they are going to have a rough year on this one.

Still upset they cut BFV content after the Pacific. Just when the game was finally getting good.

Agreed, I get that they had to move their teams over to new projects aka 2042, but i think its hard for them to ignore one of the worst launches.

Funny enough, that is where we might end up with this full circle.

Does 2042 need to be rebooted and all hands on deck to redesign it? Or plow it down and start over with a new BF made under Zampella from beginning to end? Its why I try not to rush or assume how any of this might turn out as people made it sound like BFV was AIDS and no fixing and to move on etc, yet once that new update came out and many people came around to the game, it was too late as I'm sure EA factored that horrid launch. For all we know ending of this year (I have no hope for summer lol) that season of maps and changes gets people on board and liking it annnnnnnnnnd we moved on to a new BF lol Its hard to tell with this as you'd think from the BFV comments when it launched that was the last BF that was ever going to come out and game overz etc. So its hard to see how this will play out or what the master plan should be tbh. I want it fixed and designed well as I see where it can shine with better maps, no hero shooters and them just being avatars and Portal maps, but I also see how the IP can be rebooted with a Bad Company 3 or 2143 or BFVI aka BFVIetnam lol (we never letting that shit go).

To stay is to try to support a messed up foundation, to leave is to abandon the base.

Well not surprised, i quited it a month after i bought it and honestly still don't have any reason to go back towards it. the gameplay loop just isn't good.

How can you not love this amazing content? This incredible post-launch support? And for Angel, no less. Easily everyone's favorite specialist.

Angel does it again, am I right?
Best part is it's just a copy paste from the flying squirrels default beanie.

But guys, it's an EPIC headgear!!

i jumped in again recent. And i kinda had fun with Portal. The problem is the game is dead so where u would think theres all these cool custom servers, theres really not. The only ones that are populated are bs xp farm bots or 2042 maps and rules.

The classic server thats featured on the main Portal menu is populated.....but for whatever god awful reason it has the bleed out mechanic of the recent games. Which makes it a barely tolerable experience.
