Battlefield 2042 Executions in Third-Person, Gunplay, TTK & More Details From Tech Test Revealed

With gameplay surfacing from the on-going Battlefield 2042 Tech Test, it seems more details have surfaced yet again! For starters, the Battlefield 2042 executions (takedowns) are now in third-person, which should be familiar to those who play Call of Duty: Warzone. Initially, executions were in first-person in past games like in Battlefield 3.

Someone in the alpha has reached out to MP1st and has shared a load of info regarding the Tech Test in terms of movement, and more! Note that this is a Tech Test, and as such, there could be some gameplay elements, UI and technical stuff that aren’t in yet. That said, here’s the pastebin that was shared to us:

– Movement is similar to BF5. Sliding and mantling are in the game.
– Destruction seems light. I don’t recall seeing any to be honest. But apparently it’s like BF3.
– Orbital was the only playable map. It features 6 sectors with 1-2 capture points each.
– Executions are back and in third-person.
– Aiming with tanks is sped up compared to BF5. Feels like regular aim speed.
– There’s a regular battle tank with a turret and a rocket launcher.
– One tank (the Jaguar) has an AA gun that can lock onto planes. It also has smokes as a counter measure and can repair itself. Pretty sure this tank can not zoom in or ADS.
– There were 3 helicopter types and a jet.
– One chopper has an explosive round cannon and a machine gun turret.
– One helicopter (I believe the Osprey) has a Bradley tank style cannon with a moderate fire rate.
– Attachments: On ARs there was a holo scope and a long range scope. An extended barrel and a silencer. Heavy, medium, and light rounds. And a vertical grip, and an underbarrel grenade launcher.
– Some implications of this are 1) You can switch to an underbarrel grenade launcher at any time and switch back. 2) You can swap between a 4x scope and a holo scope depending on where you are on the map. 3) You can throw on a silencer at any point, then switch back for more range. 4) 2) On shotguns, you can swap between buckshot and slug rounds at any time. Etc.
– When you’re downed, you can now indicate to teammates “Do not revive me” in addition to calling for a revive.
– The revive screen can be skipped quicker than BF5.
Over on the game’s subreddit, some members have shared some of the stuff that can be seen in the leaked gameplay too.

Over on Reddit, notable leaker Okami (and Tom Henderson) has shared some the weapons available in the Tech Test, as well as some of the equipment and gadgets.

Here’s a leaked map overview of the Orbital map:

Reddit user MrNomNom9 has also shared his hands-on experience, and talks about the gunplay, time-to-kill and more! Here are excerpts from the hands-on that was shared via a Google Document.

On Gunplay:

Gunplay feels REALLY superb. An excellent evolution of BFV’s gunplay where spread is minimal and recoil is what defines weapon accuracy. As long as your aim is true, all you have to account for is drop and lead, otherwise spread isn’t a big issue. If you’re a fan of BFV’s gunplay, you’ll love 2042’s. Super pleased. Unsure if hip fire was bugged, the crosshair in the tech test did not shift when moving or while jumping, but hipfire in close quarters felt really solid and accurate.
On Time-to-Kill (TTK):

TTK felt great, in line with BFV’s. Assault rifles and LMG’s seemed to 4-5 shot and DMR’s 3 shotted to the chest. Sniper Rifles remain unchanged, 1 shot headshot or 2 to the chest. Shotguns one shot in CQC or 2-3 shot further out as per usual. SMG’s felt like a 4-7 shot? Both SMG’s in the tech test had high ROF so they melted if your shot was on target. Didn’t test the revolver too extensively but the Glock did work if your shot was on point.
Instead of a knife, each player uses their fists. I have no idea why but I assume it’s to sell melee weapons (preorder bonus anyone?). I attempted to do a takedown on a bot, no luck, but I was able to do it to an an enemy player, they’re now in third person and in order to show off your skins and likely to sell animations.
There are four Specialists available in the Tech Test, and they are Mackay, Pyotr, Falck, and Casper.

Gadgets: Each specialist has their own gadgets; Mackay has his grappling hook (it actually worked a lot like Pathfinder’s from Apex), Pyotr has his sentry gun (seemed to be broken? Never fired at any enemies), Caspar his drone (Couldn’t figure out how to activate EMP but I believe spotting worked) and Falck’s syrette gun (revives teammates in a single shot, can also be turned on herself to heal her to 100%)
Universal Gadgets include a modern Carl Gustav dummy fired RPG (great against Heli’s and Tanks), a FIM Stinger Anti Air Launcher (get ready for a lot of people to carry these, I got pinged by rocket lock a lot in the Heli and it only takes 1-2 to take down the scout and 2-3 for the Attack Heli), Medkit box, Ammo Box, Repair Tool, Anti Armor Mines, and a Nav Beacon (I assumed it to be a spawn beacon)

Self healing vehicles, no currency to call in supplies, swap out ammo/attachments at any time? This sounds entirely way too forgiving and convenient. I was skeptical from the beginning, and nothing I'm reading here has calmed the skepticism. Firmly on the wait for a sale side of the fence at the moment.

Blehhh that's going to get abused and become exhausting trying to micromanage constantly hot-swapping your kit around all that to keep up with the sweats.

If they wanted to keep the utility of being able to config your gun while still alive, they should have added an animation to each of those actions. Like you have to actually take off your scope and put on a new one. Even if they only took a few seconds it might curb the abuse a little bit.

Also someone said self healing vehicles? I didnt see that in the article but if true thats gross. Even as a tank aficionado thats lame.

Self healing vehicles have been in BF since BF4 I think. I dont like it either but its been in the series now for awhile. Theres quite a few drawbacks but it still pretty weak. Just one of the many things that have been dumbed down to oblivion in this series over the years. The days of BF2 are never coming back.
Still, Im cool with it as long as the overall game feels right - and is fun.

Did it really? God im getting old lol. I would have sworn you had to engineer repair them.

I remember it had like the fire extinguisher perk or something which might do some emergency stop the bleeding... but I thought you still had to hit it with that blowtorch haha.

Well I enjoyed BF4 so its like that then thats good!

Battlefield 4 did not have self-repair vehicles. BF1 did, however.

So from what I've read:

Like:
-BFV style/feeling of gunplay
-plus system to swap attachments
-TTK based on the bullets to kill listed off for various weapons
-Don't Revive me option when downed
-the return of Carl Gustav

Dislike:
-sliding
-self-repair vehicles
-seemingly lack of destruction
-fast tank aiming

You guys do realize that "Portal" mode will let you modify anything in a custom match including TTK, right? Unless I understood the mode incorrectly.

It being an old build TTK/Destruction and Tank Mechanics have probably already changed honestly. Sure open beta will be a more tell all of what we're to expect at launch. Looks like Battlefield hopefully PC graphics are crisp and buttery smooth.

Since this has no campaign theres no reason why this shouldn't be the most epic Battlefield game ever

So my expectations are high. I expect atleast 25 to 50 maps.

Also, Would including fan favorite maps from BF3 and BF4 be asking too much?

To be honest I really hate this idea that class gadgets are unlocked. It just means everyone is going to be packing rocket launchers and nobody will carry supply crates or repair tools. The specialist thing already seemed like a bad idea because everyone picks from the same pool so HUD elements will be the only way to tell friend from foe

Personally BF5 TTK is perfect so its a good thing. Can't wait to play it, i played BF5 for like 700hours and it was great(even though many people disliked it) but i really missed modern weapons/vehicle so BF2042 is gonna be THE ONE for FPS shooter.

Too bad for low destruction, i guess thats because PS4/X1 cant handle it

According to details shared on social media by community dataminer @Temporyal, the mode – which is yet to be officially detailed by DICE – will have players battling AI enemies and fighting to reach extraction points without losing their loot.

In Escape from Tarkov, players are assigned an extraction point on the other side of the map, and must fight against other players and AI enemies in order to reach that point and escape with their collected loot.

In addition to these standard extractions, players are also given the opportunity to use optional extraction points but must achieve certain objectives in order to do so, such as by acquiring a certain piece of loot.

Once extracted, players can store their loot for future matches or sell it to other players. When players die in a match, they lose everything, including the equipment they brought with them.

“Expect to collect intel from data drives & crashed satellites in Hazard Zone,” the Battlefield 2042 dataminer wrote. “After a briefing screen and insertion via Little Bird, it’s up to you to search the area. The danger of losing equipment can be countered with a ‘Loadout Insurance’, one of numerous tactical upgrades.”

They added: “Battlefield Hazard Zone maps seem to feature various points of interest like ammo stations and uplinks.

“Here you can call for a Ranger (Robot Dog) or HDT Storm (ATV). There are also links to a respawn sequence with states like start, pause, resume & abort.

“You might encounter AI soldiers like a patrol using a Jaguar EBRC or HDT Storm in #Battlefield Hazard Zone.

“According to some data, they can get reinforcements and parachute (solo or squads) into the map. AI ‘bosses’ will probably serve as additional objectives & grant rewards.

“You can leave the Hazard Zone by using an extraction zone (landing zones for helicopters which can be claimed & activated). An extraction can also fail if you miss the helicopter.

“Money bag”Hazard Zone currency” is probably the key to expand your weapon, gadget and perk collection…”

A somewhat original idea? Interested in seeing gameplay of that mode.

Depends less on unlocks and more on vehicle balance. If vehicles are as oppressive as they were in BF4, players are gonna trade in other bits of kit for rockets. No one likes being dunked on by a LAV.

The more I hear about the mainline mode the less I'm interested... Ten specialists for 128 players means you'll have multiples of the same specialist between the two teams. That means there's no way they can implement a full hardcore mode in the premier gamemode because they have to rely on HUD cues for target identification. It seems like Portal mode will be where I spend the majority of my time... I like the class archetype; Four-ish classes with distinct uniforms for each faction. Hopefully someone can get a "Classic Battlefield" rotation running on the new & old maps with distinct classes & armies.

When they were first teasing the game I mistook specialists as something akin to the hero units from the Star Wars Battlefront games... Something along the lines of, "Get a 10 kill streak and respawn anywhere on the map as the wingdiver unit" I think I would actually be okay with that implementation, but not really a fan of non-faction specific specialist comprising the two armies.

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Keep the gameplay tight everything else is extra but at some point they need to include a kill cam something COD had since 08’ with Modern Warfare.

Back in the day I use to skip them than we got the share button the kill cam makes them all that better.
Also what I just remembered, a killcam wouldn't really work in BF. You are either skipping to the respawn/map menu or are waiting on a revive (calling out enemies to your friends).
What if you get revived while watching a killcam? I don't think a killcam system would work tbh.

This game had some sorta memory leak for my build. I would start playing at like 30 fps(couldnt unlock it for some reason). About 5 minutes later it was an unplayable like 5fps

Idk if it has been answered but does Battlefield 2042 have a Singleplayer campaign? Somebody know?
Edit: I've just looked it up and it seems it has no Campaing. Too bad.
