Battlefield 2042’s Steam player count ‘falls below 1,000’ for the first time

Battlefield 2042‘s concurrent player count on Steam reportedly fell below 1,000 for the first time on Monday. That’s according to SteamCharts.

It shows that earlier today, just 979 people were playing the game at one point. It’s worth noting that SteamDB data for April 11 shows today’s player count low as 1,021.

I fully expect this to go the way of Anthem. Promise more content, overhauls, the works, etc only for it to quietly fizzle out in hopes that they can memoryhole it and start the next hypecycle again for the new game.

What a shitshow this has been. I wonder if this franchise is even salvageable at this point after so many "meh" efforts after BF3 and the outright broken mess that is 2042.

Yeah, I was hoping for the best possible out come. But at this point I don't even care any more if it turns around. I just want to see a new BF game that is polar opposite of everything 2042 was.
I don’t even know if a new BF game can save the IP right now, I think it needs to go away for a long time first.

They need to come up with a stopgap IP that’s actually good.

Yeah, that's very true. I'd like to think that the BF name isn't completely tarnished after this. I mean, as of this year it's an officially 20 year old IP, haha. It's crazy to even think of.

But, they'd have to REALLY push for it.

I really miss the old incredible BF games, but man, what a disappointment this game was.

Yeah tried to like this but after 10 or so hours it just wasn't for me, or anyone else by the looks of things.

I think there's a culmination of factors which has lead to this mess of a game. Mostly stemming from the tone-deaf reaction of DICE and EA to embrace their audience's wants and needs.

This isn't a Battlefield game.

sad.

Jesus christ, I must live in some of your minds rent free lol

Halo has like 3k or so players on Steam, yet charts in the top 10 on XB.

Sooooooo yea, different install bases play different games, news at 11. Call Of Duty should be on deaths door step as its not even on steam using this neck beard logic.

J jaysius BFV failed harder and you still got 2042 so.....yea.

Good luck with that

See you at the next BF launch lol

I always thought 2042 was the name of its concurrent playerbase, but I see now it was named after the number of bugs it shipped with.

I dont think you understand what that term actually means when people think of you defending this game :)

Nah, some of you are literally obsessed with the mentions to the point of making numerous threads to tell us a count, that wasn't told upon other titles in the very same series.

That isn't defending a game, thats fucking telling you Steam has never actually had the majority of BF players....

Telling me how low its going is fucking irrelevant, look at BF3's numbers on Steam.

That would be like me posting about that every fucking week at trying to @ you for attention or something...so yea, living rent free in some of your minds here lol

I mean, its literally why none of you have made a Call Of Duty concern thread talking about it missing from Steam =) Soooo doesn't sound like anyone really cares about how much sense it makes or not, its simply posted to bash users on here you guys are obsessed with lol

Are people still waiting for them to make it good like they did with SWBF 2 and BF V (apparently, I liked V at launch apart from TTK)

At 1000 player count, the game must be ranking somewhere between Carbon Monoxide Tester Simulator and How To Program Your Alarm Clock app.

The game had stabilized at about 2000 players for a few months. Looks like even the hardcore gamers are bailing.

Latest BF game is crap but I don’t agree with BF1 and V being bad.
Still play V with my friends and the gunplay is great. Never bought 2042 tho.

Number 23 in the UK.

Not only is it behind the behemoths like Fortnite, Apex, CoD, Minecraft and Roblox but also smaller games like Dead by Daylight, Football Manager, AC Valhalla, Ark, Read Dead 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, F1 2021.

Its number 11 in most played in the United States.

As the point of what I'm saying, yet something crazy like 190 something on Steam.

So even being number 23 again proves my point.

Different install base, different rank, as to why Call Of Duty used to rank so low on Steam, yet move millions of units on consoles and literally ranked number 2 most played game on XBL.

So BF being ranked so low on Steam isn't any more shocking then Call Of Duty or Halo being ranked low.

Edmix is right to be fair. You have to remember that there are a million military shooters on PC, much better ones than this game. Its the main reason why COD has never been as big on PC compared to console.
2042 is probably doing much better on console. The game is still doing badly of course, i'm just saying that using Steam user numbers doesnt always tell the whole story.

But how do you know? Could easily be flopping hard on consoles as well.
