recently played through the original Monkey Island. original EGA is the first way i experienced the game, it is how the creators originally made the game, and imo it is still the best looking rendition. i love the use of the limited color palette and dithering. the dithering was a big part of these backgrounds, which was a technique they first tried out on Loom. mostly the work of artists Steve Purcell and Mark Ferrari.

Personally I'm partial to sci fi games with high contrast lighting, impossible architecture, and lots of greebles and nurnies. 90's blizzard was great at that, until they went all cartoony in the 2000's

And there are many more examples, like the recent Ghostrunner, or FF7, but you get the idea.

I agree, the intricate detail in cyberpunk games are amazing, the amount of imagination required to create such complicated architecture are mind blowing, it's not just something you can go out and copy from nature.

I already posted, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the work Arkane put into Dishonored 2. Their industrial design and architecture in the game is absolutely top-tier. The detail isn't for show, every detail has a purpose. The game had a mansion that had transforming rooms which all had properly operating parts actuated by gears, worm screws and pulley systems that you could see working.

Deus-Ex is another series I'll remember vividly for the same reasons. The level of detail is again way up there helping create a world that feels real because it's just as shitty as the real one if you look down the side streets.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife

I love all the usual suspects Vanillaware, Personas , Okami, Valkyria Chronicles

But everyone knows those so I'd like use this chance to show you beatiful art from little known Chinese Visual Novel Bai Qu: Hundreds of Melodies

The game looks like it was painted on a canvas

PS. It's also good visual novel somehat similar to Clannad so give it a read if you like the genre it's dirt cheap on steam.

I really like that recently devs have been trying out different retro styles than just the typical 16/32-bit console look. For example

I love how World of Horror mixes Junji Ito influences with the kind of black and white graphics that was common for early Apple adventure games.

Or how well Gloomwood recreates the atmosphere of Thief and it's DarkEngine.

Or how Unawoved hits that sweet spot of SVGA era of PC adventure games, right when CDROMs got popular

Or how uniquelly kick-ass CGA-styled visuals can look today in The Eternal Castle [REMASTERED]

Bit of a weird one but I absolutely love the typography in Prey (2017). I don't even like the game that much but it's got such a great style.

I don't know what to call it. Nouveau art deco?

Came to post Prey. It's a good choice. Very unique game, unlike anything else out there.
