Anyone seen any good movies lately?

4/10

Pretty damn dull for a movie with such an all star cast (and solid soundtrack). The first half is decently fun but then it all starts to fall apart from the middle onward.
Best part is that Margot Robbie looks great in this.

I've just rewatched 2001 A Space Odissey.
This is such a master piece of a film. Unbelievable photography and music. A 60 year old scifi film that aged incredibly well.
Kubrick was really ahead of it's time. Can't imagine people in the 60s go to the movies and watch this.
Unfortunately I never had the chance to watch it on a cinema in a big screen with top notch sound...

Saw someone mention Contact in the thread about Interstellar and decided to give it a go. Absolutely loved it.

I'm shocked you have not seen it all this time. One of my favourite movies of all time. Would like to see more movies focus on space, alien life and our place in the universe but more realisitc take on the topic.
Another one you can try if you haven't already seen it is 'Arrival' starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. The score and cinematography in this one is top drawer stuff.

Yep, I'm shocked too! Love sci-fi films so not sure why it's taken me so long. I've added Arrival to my Netflix list. Thanks!

Mystery/Horror/Drama

Since the movie is currently free on Amazon Prime and has reasonably good reviews, I thought I'd check it out.

What I expected was primarily a drama with a bit of mysticism thrown in.
What I got was an absolutely captivating mystery film with elements of horror and drama.

What pleased me the most was that the basic idea was innovative and, as far as I know, has never appeared in this form in any other film yet.

Really good film that another GAFfer made me aware of. It's getting limited releases in most AMC theaters across NA. I lucked out and got to see it subtitled in IMAX.

The art and animation were amazing, the story was bittersweet and heartfelt, with good moments of levity instead of a big self aware jokefest like most movies these days.

Highly recommend if you like Ghibli stuff or even just high quality animation like old Disney. Or anime.

You can see if it's playing near you on the official site.

Makoto Shinkai makes some really gorgeous movies.
They're all basically the same movie, but they're gorgeous nontheless.

Just watched Bloody Hell a few days ago and was fantastic. Came out last year I believe. Best movie I’ve seen in a long while.

It’s a horror / comedy (that’s actually funny) about a crazy Finnish family.

Watched the menu - i enjoyed it. Something different. Didnt love how unrealistic it was, but it was still okay.

I do enjoy food culture tho, so i may be a bit biased
