r/amd is an embarassment filled with greenboi with AMD CPUs.

DLSS 1 is a failed project (true AI)
DLSS 2 is the best TAA derivative that we have seen at this point, but it's nowhere at levels it is hyped. It still exhibits full set of TAA weaknesses. It is also not compatible with VRS. Oh, and it only runs on GPUs of a single manufacturer. And it's available only in a handful in games.

Being dismissive towards traditional algorithmic approaches is not justified.
Try to solve ax^2 + bx + c = 0 using neural networks.

And even that exhibits a lot of artifacting/fuzzied lines in motion......
I've played through GoW twice, normal and GMGOW modes, killing all valkiryes and completing most of the petty crap too.
Game looked amazing. From light effects, to reflections.
And most of the time I was using axe, which has quite notable light effects to it and when charged, to the environment too.
That was on PS4, with its puny 7870 as GPU and on a 65" OLED screen, from about 2-3 meter distance.

Which youtuber's video should I watch to start seeing it as "crap" pretty please?

They're comparing software based rendering on a PS4 Pro to hardware based on a 2080. It's apples to oranges.

Agreed which is why some people really show their ass acting like any of the other software reconstruction techniques used by Sony, Unreal, Insomniac, or anyone else even come close in comparison to DLSS.

Total hyperbole, lol. The DF shilling has really worked 👍🏻👍🏻

The truth is in the middle. DLSS is better, but it’s all diminishing returns, especially on console where people’s noses aren’t in the screen.

Its not shilling I've seen the comparisons in the Medium. Unreal's TAA reconstruction doesn't come close as seen in the Medium. And I already posted you a quote before from Insomniac saying their solution isn't much different. They downplayed their solution but you will try to play it up like its something special.

If ps5 supported DLSS, would you say the same thing? Pretty sure you wouldn't have issues with those frame drops a bit below 60fps, with sharper filtering. It's funny how some people hate on some things, till they finally get to use them. There are no other upscaling techniques that look as good as DLSS, or have the performance it gives. That's a fact

Lol, get a hold of yourself. Of course I’d prefer the best solution, but that doesn’t invalidate anything I’ve stated. What sort of crazy do you take me for?

Man I’m just not sure the age of some of you guys. Instant personal attacks over a tech viewpoint, lol.

Machine learning is just a buzz word. They can't even teach a car to drive independently without running over somebody.

That's my point. These technologies are not all just the same thing, just because they have similar objectives.

Well, the fact that Series X/PS5's checkerboarded 4K on RE:Village looks better than PC's native 4K asides from hair aliasing proves that brute forcing 4K or brute forcing dedicated AI upscaling is not always necessary

I bet most people would not see differences between "dlss quality" and a proper "checkerboarding" with a 4K TV

Everyone will notice the framedrops and inconsistent framerate on the other hand, while DLSS will not only look better, but better performance.

Well, I bet lot of people are sitting sufficiently far back from their TV not to notice the difference between 1440p and 4K even.

PS4 Pro's is also hardware-based. There's a hardware feature called "ID buffer" that's added to aid in checkerboard rendering.

This is correct which is why devs will often opt for checkerboard instead of native on Playstation. It's a better use of resources. It's the equivalent of having hardware DLSS. Why wouldn't they use it?

Because sometimes the third parties engine doesn't work particularly well with the hardware CBR. I have in mind The Avengers which work awfully on ps5.

Basically everything about that game is garbage. No loss.

The sheer ignorance displayed by throwing these fields in the same bucket is breathtaking....

That remains to be seen. DLSS is pretty dang resource heavy. Probably more so than checkerboard. Will AMD FSR be resource heavy? who knows.

Very rude response. It's all pattern matching. There isn't as much difference as you are claiming.
K people. Pack up your billion dollar budgets and stop all research this guy just explained everything.....

The less you know about a field the simpler it looks. It takes a certain amount of education about any scientific topic to grasp just how complex it actually is.
Or in simpler words, you have no idea what you are talking about.....

Wait, what? Explain that please? Or at least use a comparison to explain it.

Check out native vs DLSS in Control. Drop in framerate despite all those tensor cores taking up room on the chip.

Heres a newer game.
DLSS quality 4k (internal resolution 1440p) - 105fps
1440p Native TAA - 130fps

Checkboard is harder to compare since it isnt available on PC. But considering the PS4 pro is a ridiculously weak AMD RX 470 running checkerboard 4K games, most likely its pretty damn efficient.

Some people believe that the entirety of human cognition is simply pattern matching.

I made that same observation while enjoying thc. Here are my notes on the subject

"Literally everything is pattern matching. Intelligence is pm, language is pm, the more patterns we see the more complex patterns we can match. That's called analysis."

Well, the video I quoted specifies that Decima Engine appears to be software driven and not really reliant on PS4 hardware for their checkerboarding solution. I know the PS4 Pro does have specialist hardware but this comparison seems to suggest it's more of a software driven solution.

AMD is certainly taking its time to bring FidelityFX Super Resolution to the market. However, the little we know about the tech (that its cross-platform, likely shader-based, and will work on consoles) is nothing but good news for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S owners.

If FidelityFX Super Resolution is easy to implement and delivers a genuine boost to image quality, it could be the transformative “secret sauce” that’ll help this generation of consoles stay relevant as performance-sapping ray-tracing becomes more and more important.
