Good News! Alan Wake supports AutoHDR on Series X. So you can play exactly what you wanted. The original 360 graphics, but with HDR.
Er... You have a Series X, don't you?

540p-720p, no?

Nope. Maybe windows will support it. But isn't it crap?

Agreed. Difference is nonexistent.

Sorry mate u can laugh all you want. Its barely a improvement in comparison to games whats out there right now. They will ask on top of it probably full price for it. It looks ugly outdated and subpar in comparison towards today games.

If somebody told me it was a mod i would believe them. Its extremely underwhelming.

They had to fully remake the entire game into a more next generation effort and fix there crappy combat system while at it. But instead went the lazy route of upgrading some models with some textures and slam some grass here and there.

But its good to see people are happy with zero effort remakes tho, u do you. I won't be getting it.

tbh, They are calling it Remaster. Not a remake.
The fact that they are upgrading models and textures is already too much for a remaster and indicates somewhat of a higher effort... or effort too low for a remake so they are calling it a remaster

It's a bad game with bad gameplay, but it's also a bad parody of a bad Stephen King novel. Now it's getting a bad remake. I played it last year on PC and it was a pretty bad game by modern standards, but back in 2001 or whatever it might have been ok

it was already mediocre in 2010 when it released

I'm disappointed that this doesn't have HDR. I think this could really good with it.

Does Alan Wake Remastered support ray tracing / HDR?

No.

As this is a remaster built on the existing Alan Wake engine and technology, adding in ray tracing / HDR support was deemed too time-consuming. This would have taken resources away from other critical areas.

We are confident the game looks great even without ray tracing / HDR support.

Does anyone know why the gap in install sizes are much larger than normal?

  • PlayStation 4 – Approx. 29GB
  • PlayStation 5 – Approx. 27GB
  • Xbox platforms – Approx. 39GB
  • PC – Approx. 36GB

Yep. When I play something with hdr and then go back to a desktop/sdr... it looks extremely muted until I get used to it

I like that they have updated the pre-rendered cutscenes too. I will definitely buy this because its only 30 euros.

Edit: It bothers me that Alan Wake's jacket goes through that chair when he sits. :D

A remaster is not intended to rebuild a game. It is intended to provide a nostalgic feel for an older game, while giving it some improvements. Alan Wake deserves to be experienced.

I, for one, am very happy this is coming. Will I pay a full $60 for it? Probably not. But I'd easily pick it up on sale. The game is 11 years old, so it's not like a ton of people have played it.

W.. what?
What word did you not understand?

There have been millions of new gamers since the original game was released. Many (probably the vast majority) have not played the game. For them, this game will be an all new experience. Gameplay-wise it holds up pretty well.

Seriously, though, about the writing: the pages you're supposed to read and the story cut scenes seem intentionally bad most of the time, but other times it just comes off as incompetent.

Environments look better in the original, because they are not ripped apart by that shitty bloom effect.
Not that I was going to get it.. go EGS exclusive be removed from my potential future purchase options instantly.

Alan Wake Remastered vs Original Graphics Comparison

Wow. Some of the games I've played that got free next gen patches look like they got more significant improvements. At times it looks the same as the original, at others it arguably looks worse (check out Alan's Wife's face).

This shouldn't be being charged for. At the very least, existing owners should get a free update.

This feels like they farmed the remaster out and said "what can you get done in a week?" a total cash grab.

Alan's running animations haven't aged well. The rest of it looks good. I'll definitely pick it up. Had some very good times with this game.

Are you joking ?!
This is a REMASTER. not a remake.
Upping the resolution, framerate and releasing on other platform is enough for RE MASTERING.
And they went beyond by updating models and textures. Shame no hdr

Its no Saints Row remastered but ill take it.

I guess some people forgot what remaster are?
Remasters are generally:
Upres Textures
Upres Resolution
Increased framerate
If lucky some new lighting.
Getting new geometry made for a remaster is rare.

They can update all the models but don't have time to implement HDR?

It's not even a niche feature any more, it's an industry standard feature supported by all next-gen hardware and almost all 4K TVs sold today.

Bafflingly lazy or incompetent.

Remedy don’t know what HDR is still?
Welp not getting this one unless they implement it. Plenty to play instead.

Complaining is 90% of 90% of GAFfers posts.
We dont actually like videogames here we just like to bitch about them.

It’s gotten way worse over the past six months or so. Just straight up retards making posts that scream ignorance or blatant youthful stupidity.

Like whoever just called Sam Lake’s writing “incompetent.” Save everyone the trouble and maybe some tax dollars and jump head first into traffic right now. Please.

It looks more like a PC version at max settings. It doesn't look really "up to date"... just sharper with a little more detail.

I tried playing this again last year on PC (I haven't played it since the original xbox release). The game hasn't aged well at all and I dumped it after a couple of hours. I don't see this remaster changing that.

I mean I'll take it. I tried replaying it recently and I just couldn't get past the low frame rate and awful resolution. It looks really bad on a modern screen. It's cheap, runs at 4K/60 has some more modern textures and has a DLC which I believe isn't even able to get anymore on the XB store (but could be wrong). I'll take it as I loved it the first time round. Nice way to spend a weekend tbh. I wish some more effort could have been put into the remaster but it is what it is I guess.

Last gen we started to get Bungie games on PlayStation and now we're getting Remedy games like Control and this. Sony did good gaining their support and I'm glad they did.
