Probably has to do with the fact that nobody cares if he used PEDs or not. I'm willing to bet that more than half of all professional athletes in high impact or high physical demand sports have used some kind of performance enhancer or banned substance at some point in their athletic career. And it's not like the dude was a physical specimen during his career. He was never an athletic QB. If he used anything at all it was likely to return from injury just like most NFL players do.

Plus I like his commercials.
Add in the fact he is not a player anymore, and same page.

As an aside, 1/2 would make a great prop bet line. I could easily see the over winning even though I'd like to believe the under would win.

I guess it depends on your definition of PEDs and when you wanna bet they are taking them. If you are talking about big bad stuff like steroids and other things to drastically improve their physical performance during the season I would say it is WAY below half.

But if you are talking about enhancers and substances in the off season and during the season to help them bounce back from injury then I would say it is well over half.

Because let's be real here. As good as modern medicine is and as good as surgical techniques have gotten you don't tear your Achilles or your ACL and then show up to training camp 9 months later in peak physical form and start running drills without SOME kind of help from some questionable substances.

I think you're spot on. I would probably include no prescription / off label use of products during season too (anything they may not test for yet to help with energy / pain). And honestly, I really don't fault these guys much if at all. Is it cheating --> yes. But would I do it if I was in that fringe group sitting between jacked gym rat and multi-million dollar athlete? Of course.

Oh absolutely. I don't fault them at all. A shot at generational wealth as well as it helping with their physical long term health? I would do the same in a heartbeat.

I think the expectation that records are there to be broken has two effects... one, training gets better... two, doping gets more and more attractive.

Cycling is ruined for me. Thanks, Lance, but thanks also everyone else who sprints up mountains for a month. I still kinda like cycling for the spectacle, but 0% for the competition. Unless a french rider wins le tour. I'd be excited for that.

It's not just training and drugs either. As time has gone on food has become more nutritional and more widely available. So our athletes of today grew up eating better food and having been better taken care of compared to someone who played in the 40s 50s and 60s who grew up during harder economic times. So our athletes are bigger, stronger, and have access to superior medicine.

Which is why some of the older records are so goddamn impressive. Chamberlain, Ruth, Mantle, Hank Aaron, etc etc. All have records that still stand today and will likely be standing for a very very long time despite playing at a time when the training and the medicine were basically medieval by today's standards

Good points!

I also remarked to The Babe the other month that things like YouTube have globalised elite training methods, leveling the playing field in many sports that used to be dominated by wealthy nations

I gave up the drink last year. :messenger_grinning_sweat: The only excitement I had was trying to get back to my hotel from across town. We were meant to go to an event last night, couldn't find the place. Eventually I said screw it and went back to my hotel. I had an edible earlier so I knew Uber/taxi would spoil the adventure. So, I attempted to make my way back solo across town while high af. Everything was great until I hit MGM. The whole thing probably took 45 mins, when it should have been like 20.

Here was my route:
Manadalay Bay -> Excalibur via tram -> walk to MGM -> get lost for 30 mins trying to find the Monorail entrance -> Monorail -> Sahara

It sounds relatively easy except, you walk through the casinos to get off or on the Monorail. The problem is that directional signs are nowhere and no indication where you should look (or maybe I was too sauced). I wound up outside walking around the building to the other side, thanks to the help of Maps on my phone (this alone was like a 10 min walk). To boot, all the street access stairways were 'closed to the public'. Just as I was about to cave and find a cab, I noticed a small elevator and a tiny sign for the Monorail. From there it was less exciting.

I think it is crazy that thousands of intoxicated people wander that city every day without issue. And I thought I had a good sense of direction.

And you know, now that I'm home and looking at Maps again, yeah I walked around 75% of the perimeter when I could have done it in 25%... Let that be the lesson.

I wouldn't exactly call it big, but if you just don't like the Mannings then that's your thing I guess. I can't stop you.

Reminds me of a night spent walking around unfamiliar Jakarta trying to find my way back to my parents' house through a rat's nest of sidestreets... In the end a security guard rode me home on his scooter and we crushed his back wheel in a pothole with my 90kg ass.. gave him all my money for repairs lol, nice man.. then when i was walking to the apartment i slipped and fell into the swimming pool...

... Forgot to mention i was stone cold sober, just very clumsy

OKAY GUYS LET'S REBOOT THE PREDICTIONS

ROUND 4 PREDICTIONS - NEW SCORING SYSTEM

I'm trying to do this a lot earlier in the week so more people have a chance to join in :) You must now join in.

I propose to track % accuracy per week, rather than total points. This should allow people coming in in this and subsequent weeks to more quickly settle into an accurate place in the table. I want to think of a potential secondary way to track winners, maybe I'll put gold stars next to names or something... Maybe people joining after the halfway point of the season can get some kind of handicap, I dunno yet. IF ANYONE HAS A BETTER IDEA, I'm entirely open to it :)

If you want an example of a shitty percentage, I'm happy to oblige :D

I'm gonna go ahead and tag some people, guys you don't have to write the predictions, but it'd be super if you could pick winners to join in the fun! Just trying to get a community bubbling :) I promise I won't do this every week, after these tags I'll leave it to everyone's whim.

Okay! Let's try fit in the THURSDAY GAME, too!

Bengals - Jags - Burrow will keep throwing to Chase and my fantasy team will keep noming it up.
Jets - Titans - Oh Zack Wilson good luck brother, get yourself a touchdown at least.
Bears - Lions - Nick Foles might turn around the bears if he starts, but it's hard to look past the Lions after their start. Goff is underrated, imo...
Dolphins - Colts - The Dolphins have done a decent job so far, I predict a bit of joy for them this week.
Vikings - Browns - The Browns are legit this year. I had OBJ on my bench until last week and someone already snapped him up! Fie.
Falcons - Washington - WhhhFT have looked pretty decent, I think their unheralded QB will look hella good against these opponents.
Bills - Texans - Yep, Bills don't look like giving away this one.
Saints - Giants - I wouldn't be surprised if the saints didn't score a single point this week, and for this pattern to continue, but yeah hard to go against them.
Eagles - Chiefs - The Chiefs haven't looked crash hot but the Eagles just came down to earth.
Cowboys - Panthers - I remarked last week that with Dak under center it's hard to go against the Cowboys in toss-ups like this.
49ers - Seahawks - Underwhelming record thus far doesn't change my belief that Russ Wilson is a fantastic QB, he'll out-professional the 49ers.
Rams - Cardinalds - These are the matchups that undermine prediction totals, Kyler Murray might totally kill it and run this game, but the form book points to the Rams.
Packers - Steelers - I think the black doom and gloom over the Steelers is a slight exaggeration, but this ain't the week for them to be upsetting that narrative.
Broncos - Ravens - Ravens aren't looking as dominant as previous seasons but they are on le roll.
Patriots - Buccaneers - through smart game management the pats will have a field goal to win and they'll slot it.
Chargers - Raiders - The Invisible Man, Carr, and his team might be silent killing machines, but the Chargers have a real zip to their step at the moment and have a collection of super effective skill players.

Giants are about to get slaughtered against the Saints and end up losing 4 games in a row. We should have won against Washington and Atlanta but out offensive coordination is terrible. FIRE JASON GARRETT!!!

No problem bro!

Lol that's just some of the names Dolphins fans have given opponents. I lurk on one of their forums and those guys are hysterical. There was even a "fandom war" and now there are 2 different enemy forums of Dolphins fans. A GAF/ERA kinda affair.

million dollars involved is usually pretty big.
Less than $20,000 actually.

Inselberg, Jakab and Godown had sought triple the amount of their alleged losses -- which totaled less than $20,000 combined -- for buying two helmets billed as worn by Manning.

And even then nothing was ever proven in court. The whole case was settled out of court.

Oh there is plenty of craziness going on in other forums and discord so I can assure you of that.

The Broncos fans in particular are divided. It's like half of them are excited that they are 3-0 and then the other half of them have it in their brain that they are going to get Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile Panthers fans are treating Sam Darnold like the second coming of Joe Montana.

That's interesting, I read today that Steelers fan were hyped about possibly getting Rodgers. I haven't heard anything about the Broncos. But who can blame them, they got the steal of the century with Manning a few years back so maybe they can do it again.

Jags over Bengals - I think Lawrence shows up in primetime.
Titans over Jets - Wilson does not throw a interception
Bears over Lions - Even with all their problems at QB I will never pick the Lions against anyone if I can help it. Hockenson gets a TD though.
Colts over Lolphins - This is a toss up. Both teams suck.
Browns over Vikes - Chubb and Hunt eat the Vikes alive.
WFT over Failcons - Matt Ryan has a fumble.
Bills over Texans - Allen continues his dominance. 3 TDs.
Giants over Saints - This only happens if Barkley is healthy. If he is then he has a big game and they win. If he doesn't start/leaves the game the Giants will lose.
Chiefs over Eagles - The Chiefs take out their frustrations on the Eagles. Kelce catches 2 TDs.
Cowboys over Panthers - I really really wanna take the Panthers here, but I need to see them beat a good team first. Then I am on board. Dak has 2TDs.
Hawks over Niners - The 49ers are a mirage. Wilson has 3 TDs.
Rams over Cards - Really close game, but Ram win with a field goal.
Packers over Steelers - Warrior God Aaron Rodgers has 3 TDs as the Packers make the Steelers defense wish they were never born.
Broncos over Ravens - The Bronco shock the world by going 4 and 0. Ravens have 3 turnovers.
Chargers over Raiders - Herbie is the real deal. He has 3 TDs.

Not as confident this week. I took a chance on the Giants and the Broncos. Also kinda iffy on my Rams pick. I think that game will be really close. It could just come down to who has the ball last.
