Celebrities you admired when younger but have lost all respect for over the years

He hit his wife with a lead pipe and fired a gun at her inside a car. Classic James Brown.

He beat girfriends, treated Julian Lennon like shit, preached anti-materialism while living like Kanye West.

Yah the dudes a fucking tool.

I have problems coming up with mine. I typically assume most celebs are shit heads. One that kinda bummed me out was when NOFX/fat Mike wrote a song dissing Kathleen from bikini kill since she was a feminist and kind of started a whole wave on feminism. I'm sure his views are different now since the songs like 20 years old and ppl change and what not

Between the Kevin Smith and Ralph Garman stories and both Woody Allen and Sylvester Stallone tossing him away due to his shitty diva-ish behavior I have literally zero respect for him and it's ruined everything he's done.

Dave Mustaine. He's now an obsessed conspiracy theorist and evangelical Christian. I used to play Megadeth songs on guitar all the time but now I can't even listen to Rust in Peace anymore. At least I still have Marty.

Dude I still listen to megadeth, I just wish Dave would Shut up & play sometimes, I try not to take notice of musicians themselves now and just listen to the music only, but still I see your point.

I might as well rephrase it for you: your childhood hero turns out to be a reprehensible human being over the years and your respect for them ebbs away until it's gone. It could be more sudden, too, like in Cosby's case.

I am talking about the picture of Rick Moranis.

I wouldn't say I ever "respected" him per se, but yeah. Hearing about what he's apparently like was disappointing

Morgan Freeman. I was pretty fond of him... Unitil I saw him participate in a republican ad claiming the iran nuclear deal would cause a nuke to go off in America.

Michael Jordan, because I keep hearing he is a general asshole.

Wesley Snipes, because I heard he was an asshole on the set of Blade 2 and because he is suspected of beating Halle Berry so badly she is deaf in one ear.

James Hetfield (Metallica), because in that 'Some Kind of Monster' doco, he was off murdering/hunting bears while his wife was pregnant. I also heard on Youtube that he kicked Dave Mustaines dog hard, because it was laying or brushing up against some guys car. Asshole behavior.

Oh man Some Kind of Monster! I can't believe they let that movie get out. Decades of building a badass image for themselves completely undermined in 2 hours. I get waja just thinking about it. Watching their group therapy sessions, Lars utterly failing to hold a simple beat, Hetfield driving around in his goofy cars like Jay Leno, when they go to see Kirk Hammet's side project and they are so jealous they can barely congratulate him.

I used to enjoy listening to music by The Lost Prophets. After hearing how their lead singer is a complete pedophile I promptly deleted any music I had by them.

Yeah me too. I'll always love the classics but he really lost me.

Also, Smith said he'll wait until Willis passes away to talk about what really happened during Cop Out's production. The stuff he talked about in his book was already pretty fucked up but he said it's so tame compared to what he was really like on set. Crazy.

After reading Cynthia Lennon's book, it's terribly hard to have any respect for John.

Cosby is devastating. Any comedian who can basically work clean and have such high quality material I consider a genius. Steve Martin in his stand up days is another.

You really have to separate the artist from their art if you want to enjoy anything creative, realize that art probably comes with and from the flaws in the first place.

How can Kevin Smith be so sure he's going to outlive Bruce Willis?

I'm not sure what it is. I don't think it's simply a matter of his views but how annoying he is about it. It could be amplified by how much I idolized Megadeth as a teenager. Or maybe it's because he's disowned some of his own music? I listen to Burzum and Varg's views are much worse than anything Dave believes.

Mel Gibson and Bruce Willis.

I grew up in the 80's so I loved Moonlighting, Die Hard is one of my favourite films of all time etc... and Gibson just seemed so fucking cool...

Bill Cosby no doubt.

I don't think anyone comes close for me. I didn't admire many celebrities, but his fall from grace has been remarkable.

Rolf Harris for sure. Kids club and Animal Hospital were big parts of my childhood, those memories are very tarnished.

Being Scottish, Sean Connery is kinda shoved down your throat from birth too. Him being an unapologetic wife beater sure makes you question that national level worship.

Lot's of broken dreams about famous people, thanks to media and school dumbing down information for kids. I thought Christopher Columbus was cool, with his adventures and bravery of finding new lands. Nobody even bothered to mention that he did so much terrible things. I also loved the mafia, the noble people who protect the weak where the government does not, but ultimately it already moved far from this, maybe it never was like that. It's still cool in fiction, but my childhood dream of becoming a capo is gone. Then there are the crusaders. My god. I thought it was cool to be a knight, but these guys where super failures and super idiotic. Being a knight is shit. And don't get me started on that senile idiot Wilhelm I.

Frederick II is still cool, but I also discovered some things not cool with him.
