That one special game

I’m sitting here and studying. First week of university and I’m already stressed out. So I went on a long walk to clear my head. It was raining so I took the umbrella, put my headphones in and went out. The smell of fresh air and FFVII (& FFX) in my ears. I felt how calming it was and the stress started to melt away.

FFVII and FFX are probably my favorite games, I love everything about them. The music is just..perfect. The entire journey, the characters that are so well written, every town, the gameplay and of course the chocobos are just so adorable! 🐥

It’s been a while since I was able to listen to it again without breaking down. It still gets me and it was an emotional walk. FFX and FFVII was the start for me into the world of games and what a wonderful journey it has been!
This games made me realize how much I appreciated it, I was hooked instantly. Every game thereafter has been as wonderful and so many memories, so many tears, laughter, anger and just mind blowing. It’s an amazing way to tell a story and done right it will stay with you forever.
Don’t know how or when I’ll be able to play again, but I’ll always have the music ❤️

What’s that one (or more) game that will never leave you? That effected you deeply negatively or positively. Or that will always be special to you.

If we're talking emotional games. David Cage games, TLOU, Witcher 3 to some extent and Red Dead Redemption I/II.
If we're talking music. Mirror's Edge, Halo, Mass Effect, Diablo, Skyrim and Silent Hill

Getting a copy of this and an Xbox360 was one of the happiest days ever. There's something about this game, it's so relaxing to me, I love the music, and the jankiness, the levelling system, the story is fun, and the dungeons are my favorite. I might have to play it again now that I am thinking about it.

It's hard to choose just one special game, but if I must, I'd say Nier. I played it when it first came out in 2010 and it was so weird, yet so beautiful; the story, the characters, the music, I'd never seen anything like it. It had great atmosphere, mesmerizing and haunting and I was hooked for weeks playing this game. It was an unforgettable journey that left a lasting impression. It was even more surreal when Nier actually became a hit in and penetrated popular culture.

Okami(Den).
Positively, this series made me appreciate life and living beings more.
Negatively, it made me think deeply about mortality.

The Ori games affected me the same way, actually. I wanted to skip Ori because I knew it would affect me like Okami, but I went through it anyway. But after Ori 2, I decided that I'm fucking done with these games*. The mixture of existential and nihilistic thoughts they give me is a bit overwhelming.

*If they made Ori 3 I would probably play it because I'm Moon Studios' bitch.

It's probably Heroes of Might & Magic III: Complete Edition. I have been playing it on and off for about a decade now, and i'm always completely and effortlessly addicted every single time i open the game up. Hours pass without me even comprehending. Even yesterday i tested some update on a mod i'm using for the game, and a couple of hours were fucking eaten without me even realizing. It never leaves my storage space regardless of how many desktops i change.

It truly is a remarkably fantastic video game that's the equivalent of Chess in the context that it does not age; though future installments duplicated some features and design elements, never have they improved upon the formula. And besides the franchise itself, there is no other IP that's as HoMM. The artstyle is subjective and you may or may not find it appealing, but the depth of the gameplay that's been polished to perfection is a crown jewel of strategy that will probably never be surpassed. Oh they tried with future installments, but they have never achieved such a complete package of brilliance. And given how miserable the latter entries have failed due to their questionable quality and little to no marketing, the IP is in a coma.

Even a thousand years from now, we will still be enjoying Chess and HoMM III: Complete Edition.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is a close second. Right now i'm playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Anomaly but Shadow of Chernobyl will always be the perfect starting point for anyone interested in this atmospherically dense survival - first person shooter series.

In one of the toughest times in my life, the adventures of this little robot helped me immensely. The atmosphere and amazing music allowed me to be somewhere else for a while and focus on better things.

Less personally, but as one of my favourite gaming memories KOTOR 1 takes a place close to my heart. It was a blast to play, the story was terrific and it gave me a strong appreciation for what Star Wars could be. It was the longest game I had played in that time, but I cleared it in a few days. And was just astounded afterwards. It was a great companion game to the Jedi Outcast games where you don't have much choice but to use your lightsaber. In contrast KOTOR gave me the possibility to choose more Jedi-ish peaceful paths.

Also I got to know this piece of scraps:

The game of my life.

Always positivism, art, the soundtrack and Kat ... as well as her messages of determination, and being altruistic.

I will always be grateful to Japan Studio for bringing this masterpiece.

And even if they put a game of millions of dollars and ultra graphics, for me nothing is going to take away the good development that was given to Gravity rush.

FFVii will always have a place in my heart. I remember as a kid my uncle learned me how to play RPGs FF was my first ever. I got hooked once I figured it out. Sadly my uncle passed away in 2002 I still have his copy and will cherish it forever

It took me a few year's after before I could touch the game again.

I miss old Final Fantasies 🐤

I don't know why the Bravely Team doesn't just jump the fence into making a game more in the vein of the old Final Fantasies. They've got the battle system for it.

Of course, I think I know why. One, if they wanted to make a Final Fantasy game, they would just make a Final Fantasy game. Bravely Default was actually an effort to not make a Final Fantasy game. Two, if I saw the staff credits for BD2 correctly, it had one software developer. The team is probably just too small to make a game world with the scope and detail of a game like FFVII.

But I wish they would! I've been watching my wife play Bravely Default 2 and I just can't help noticing that for a game on Switch it is awfully bland in terms of detail even in the battle scenes.

Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VII are those games for me. First two games I ever played, and so, so responsible for the development of A LOT of my personal tastes, even now. I still have a taste for High Fantasy, Steampunk, shonen, etc. They refined my writing, my English, my imagination, my love of music, gave me a life long hobby of gaming.

To 10-13 year old Kira, they were quite literally the center of my creative universe. I remember every detail of my first time with each game. I remember beating Ganon and feeling this crushing sense of disappointment because this awesome game had nothing new to show me. I remember learning in my second playthrough how Z Targeting works and cursing myself for dying 39 times to Phantom Ganon just freeballing the Dead Man's Volley until I got lucky. I remember coming up with theories about the Sheikah, the Song of Storms. Same deal for FFVII. Just great games.

So wonderful that you got to play a lovely game like FFVII and have so amazing memories with your uncle ❤️ Sad to hear he past.. but you’ll always have the memories and his copy 💗

My fav PC game ever. I never even played the campaign. Since I played HOMM 1 and 2 already I just jumped to random maps. I played it a ton from around 2000 to 2010. And best of all, I paid I think $20 for it back then. Then out of nostalgia I bought it on GOG for I think $3 (only played it a few times). So $23 for 100s of hours of gaming! Probably up there with my most played games ever along with some old CODs and Wayne Gretzky Hockey 2 (with sim disk) on PC in the early 90s.

I never bothered trying those Wrath of Gods mods. Didnt want to risk messing the game up and I was already burning out from the game.

Never tried the isometric 3D sequels. They looked like shit. So much cleaner having 2D art on a simple grid.

I'd say the only major drawback to the game (I can ignore some AI cheats) is that a few factions like Inferno and Necro seemed kind of gimped. I never knew about the Vampire spam tactic, so that would helped me, but the cpu didn't do it so to me that faction was just overall weak. The Inferno one was worse, but if you could built a giant army with Arch Devils, you could lay havoc with their super fast movement + no retaliation perk.

I didn't bother with Wrath or HotA, but i do think that the HD mod is absolutely fantastic because it allows new players to be eased in thanks to the QoL improvements.

I was obsessed with HoMM IV back in the early 2000s because that was the only game i had access to. I didn't have the internet back then, neither did i have a good machine to play video games on, but we managed and played what we could. Counter Strike 1.6, Max Payne, HoMM IV. Looking back at it, i can say with certainty that IV is an incredibly flawed game and i will remember it for purely nostalgic reasons, i don't plan on ever playing it again.

The 3D ones are pretty ugly, but i haven't played HoMM V in a long time. I'm planning to do a proper playthrough of that with the 5.5 mod.
