I can't believe we won't get to see all of the fantastic roles he would have played as he continued to age.

The world is a lesser place.

One of my favorite underrated roles of his was in Charlie Wilson's War, a reasonably entertaining movie, that he carried to another level in every scene he was in. Guy had so much talent, he could the entire range from comedy to drama. God, there are so many great roles he could have played. What a loss.

Indeed. And even if the guy wasn't all ways in quality movies he still did amazing job. I haven't seen any of the Hunger Games movies so can't say how he was in them.
He only appeared in the second film. And he was good, as usual.

This is awful. I think he had 3 kids and a wife as well? Thoughts go out to their family.

I'm sad that Hunger Games will be his last movie ever. Also I know they finished filming Part three: Part one, but I wonder how much he was able to get finished for Part Three: Part 2.
Um... what?

So brutal.

Everyone mentions master and capote, but his role in Mission impossible 3 as main villian and his role of Lester Bangs in Almost Famous was awesome as well.

Not surprising, considering that he has had problems with drugs for over 23 years....it's very sad though. Drugs are terrible for your health.

Drugs can make you even more happy. If drugs just made you feel bad nobody would be doing them. They are dangerous because they can be really fucking great to take.

The come down is also terrible. It's a nightmare on the mind, and that plagues you at your very core. People always assume that withdrawal is just physical (shakes, vomit, diarrhea). But getting off opiates can be an absolute mental hell. You can feel the lowest you have ever been, with no motivation or want to live. And you could be someone that was never depressed before, or whoever had such extreme feelings.

So you use the drug to make you happy, then when you get off it makes you feel awful. So it becomes this cycle.

"yeah well you're dignifying her in the ass" is such a hilariously well delivered line.

Unbelievable. His performances in Capote, Synecdoche, and The Master were some of my favorites. As a guy going into film making, I always had this weird hope I could shoot a movie with Hoffman and now there is no way it can happen. RIP :(.
