Xbox-Skeptics: What Are Looking For Tomorrow?

...less ads on the dashboard -___-;

Seriously. The longer this gen goes on the more depressing it feels to be bombarded with things I care little for the moment I switch my console on.

New IP and something special regarding their online and app set up because right now I'm not interested in paying for online again.

I'm almost certain I'll go for the PS4 (when the price will be at 300$ or when there will be enough exclusives to justify my purchase) but Microsoft can still convince me.

They need games (obviously) and exclusives mainly. I know like everyone that a new Halo, a new PGR, a new bunch of Kinect games and a lot of multiplatform games will be on the system (a new CoD, a new Battlefield, a new NFS, a new Fifa/Madden and already announced next gen games) but I need something else to buy the system.

If sequels were my only request then I could just buy the new Xbox or PS4 depending on my brand attachment but exclusives are what are making me decide at the end.

Sony showed interesting things with Knack, The Witness (timed exclusive) but the rest even if it seemed good didn't really make me go "wow this is really awesome material here".

Like I said, I'm more entitled to Sony's 1st party / 2nd party games so I'll just watch with no hype. I've had Xbox and Xbox 360 (two systems) but it was only for a few games that I bought theses systems and I ended selling or giving them pretty rapidly.

Xbox is a strong brand and there is a lot of good games, it wasn't just the type of games I like on the previous systems. Maybe this time things will change :)

Edit :
* always connected doesn't bother me if I can play without kinect (the always on camera connection would freak me out)
* price must be at 300$ with no games
* I may accept to pay for online if there is a PS+ like thing or something that add more value to the service
* Social gaming, f2p, iap and all these things mustn't be a major part of the service too. Or I must have the choice not to participate without feeling that I will miss things (for example not making achievements or social gaming use to be the key to access free dlc or some part of games)
* giving a lot of media features could make the difference

I'm looking for Xbox to go back to where they started and make the console for gamers. Having other services tied to the console should be a bonus and not the focus. Make playing online free and don't make me pay for Gold just so I can watch Lovefilm or Netflix on my Xbox.

I was PS2 and moved to Xbox 360 this gen for two reasons. 1. Gears of War 2. It came out first and was well ahead of the PS3 and it's mortgage inducing price point

During this gen though I have become increasingly disenchanted with how MS have seemingly forgot about the gamers. When I look at the PS3 and in particular PS+ I see a service that gives back to gamers. PS+ looks like a great idea and if you don't want it then fine you can just play online for free anyway. Paying for Xbox live Gold (despite the online experience being better on Xbox IMO) is not worth it when you see the other side of the fence.

One of the most ridiculous 'rewards' I have had was on my birthday when they gave me 20 MS points. Only 3 more years and I can get myself an 80 point indie game! I know they didn't have to give me anything but honestly I would rather they hadn't. It only served to annoy me.

I'm on the fence right now as to where my money will be going. I think both consoles will be similar in power but it may just come down to the games, future games and services offered.

what? "What Are Looking For Tomorrow?"

USA centric with all its services and really no reason for anyone outside of the USA to buy the machine.

Also this.
XBOX IS GONNA HAVE TV TOO!!!!
I dont give a shit.

If they drop paying for online, get on blu-ray, show good games, let people change the HDD and shows better specs than PS4 then Im in.

If the specs are the same as PS4 or worse then Im out.

Xbox not evoking nostalgia in order to deliver new content and new IP.

I don't want to see another Halo/Project Gotham/Forza

just thought I'd use that nonsense argument

I just wish Microsoft demonstrates some craft and care in whatever they show. I don't mind if it's a known or new quantity, just show us games which have had a bit of thought put into them. Less Halo 4 basically.

Interesting first party games because 3rd party games can and will lose their exclusivity. They cant rely on having the greatest multiplats either anymore with Sony losing their shitty hardware. Thats all I want. Games, something I feel Sony somewhat undelivered on back in January.

I want to know what they intend to do with Rares back catalogue. With a new gen, they have the oppurtunity to relaunch them.

I want region free, free online, used games usable and japanese games
I expect not only to be eventually disappointed but to have none of these issues mentioned at all

Improved "Mute" functionality. It is frustrating to have to mute someone in a online multiplayer game. Make that person aware teamates are muting him. It could be his mic is broken or he is playing the game too loud and the mic is picking it up. It should be easier to manage this.

You're going to be out then, if anyone seriously thinks there's changes afoot from the leaks they are going to be dissapointed

I'm looking for them to do something that's notably not typical of Microsoft - so perhaps not focusing on FPS/TPS games, and not focusing on how revolutionary Kinect 2.0 appears to be, that sort of thing.
Obviously there are some guarantees as to what we will see (the hardware itself, the exclusive reveal of the next CoD - the latter of which I have no interest in) but yes, otherwise I want something that will make me look twice.

I bought a 360 for games like Ninja Gaiden II and xbla ports of sotn and Ikaruga while I owned both already. Generally I think xbla was awesome. So yeah, they could only win me back with such stuff not cod. And less focus on the US.
But to be honest I'm not seeing this happening tomorrow. Maybe they surprise me in the end, who knows.

Nothing. I'm going PS4 and maybe Wii U next gen. Bungie was the reason I owned an Xbox and then a 360. I can't see anything MS could do to get me to buy their next machine.

I'm looking for Microsoft to do away with their ridiculous paywall, or if they must charge, at least supply some actual services and products in return for the money.

I stopped paying for Gold when it dawned on me that I wasn't actually receiving anything in return for my money outside of Microsofts permission to access the multiplayer content of the games I bought.

It would be nice to see Microsoft channel that subscription revenue into creating new studios, IP's and more 1st party excusives but it's never felt like Microsoft have been overly interested in doing that.

exclusive games, a fluid UI, kinect 2.0 working with real AAA games, and no Dance Central concerts.

surprise me..

Games!
No mandatory online requirement.
No mandatory Kinect 1.0 or 2.0 requirement.
Service parity between the US and European functionality and channels.
Dude, Less testosterone in the games, bro.

Yeah, i'm not expecting to go MS until late in the cycle this time.

For now , i only care about the specs ... i want a - relatively- powerfull console and that is NOT what i'm getting if the vg rumors are true .

Games will come .

Ok a few other things I want so expanding my list a bit

Free online
No encryption on controllers etc. standard Bluetooth or USB
Blu Ray
Standard HDD
Controller with built in battery (or rechargeable battery included)
360 controller (and all other accessories) compatible
No ads in the UI
Kinect not needed

Interesting exclusive games that aren't shooters, sports/racing games, or kinect games.
This is why I'm a skeptic..

Erm so what kind of games do you want lol. I guess you won't be buying the PS4 because of Killzone, Driveclub either? Guerillas new IP is likely to be a shooter, come on be realistic.

Games. Even with 1 hour they have time to show few cool looking games (+cod...). I doubt they will have any tech demos/other fluff. If it really is just cod+kinect+''services'' then oh boy.

And its high time for Live Gold to get better. For gamers, not TV stuff.

Guerillas new IP is likely to be a shooter
It's supposedly fantasy ARPG.

Free P2P multiplayer like every other system under the sun, with XBL Gold turned into something of actual value like PS+. This one is an absolute dealbreaker for me, I simply will not even consider getting the system if XBL stays the same. Also, stop hiding services that should be free, or that I'm already paying someone else for, behind the paywall.

A focus on (non-Kinect) games, not shitty services that people outside the US can't use anyway.

The only two things I want to see is no always-online and better support for Europe, including Croatia. I'm already pleased with everything else we (think we) know.

Oh, being BC would also mean a lot to me.

With EA's online pass dropped I'm expecting something worst from MS, considering how EA's been jumping from one ship to another I'm guessing they've found something they like...

That and always online - Was attempting to play GTA PC over weekend with Games for Windows Live and goddamn it was a ball ache.

So, for me, they'll need to clear up both those issues. That and games of course. And I mean games that are not 100% dudebro :|

Pretty much this and we know that won't happen.

What I need is something to convince me, that I need to buy 2 consoles instead of only going with PlayStation 4 next-generation.

With the next Xbox I would like to see:

- IllumiRoom implemented (that's what would be able to sell it to me instantly).
- Just new feature, like a Skype overlay on my games, so I can video chat at the same time; integrated.
- Maybe a Xbox overlay on my tv channels which also works across Europe.
- Free Xbox Live. (I'm not paying for that here in Europe when we get nothing, and while the alternative in PSN is free).

- As for games, I need Alan Wake 2 and any core Rare platformer. A Conker will do. But I'm not that hopeful when it comes to software yet, as I'm no fan of Fable, Halo, PGR or Forza.

- Kinect in core games. I love the concept of Kinect, integrate it more and make it more intuitive to use on the dashboard.

Xbox-Skeptics: What Are Looking For Tomorrow?

A non-Halo first party IP, preferably one that derives from the brodude target audience. I think that this is the weakest point of the current xbox.

EA does not drop something that is making them money...if i was to have a guess id say there is some sort of digital exclusivity on some EA titles with the new xbox

1) Make xbl free (never gonna happen). I refuse to pay for gold as its not worth it, and i can play 99% of games on pc or ps3 anyway. So when a good exclusive finally comes along like Gears 3, unless I pay another £40 I'm penalized and stuck with half a game. I own a gaming pc good enough for next-gen games and intend to pick up a ps4 this year so again theres no reason for me to buy the games on xbox and miss half of the features.

2) Use their money to fund great new games, instead of just moneyhatting dlc on popular games. 360 was awesome in the early days. Perfect dark, kameo, Gears of war, pgr, crackdown, doa4, Fable 2. All these games made me feel like it was worth owning a 360. Simply looking at whatevers popular and throwing money at it for timed exclusitivity does not. The skrim, cod and gta dlc all hit other systems eventually so it was just a waiting game. Infact since I buy games for othrr systems due to reason 1 above, all this does is piss me off. I'd rather microsoft take the 50 million or whatever they paid for the gta episodes and use it to get perfect dark 2 and kameo 2 backn on track. All they seem to focus on these days is halo, forza and kinnect which I couldn't care less about.

I want my xbox360 arcade sticks to work with it and I'd like xbox live to evolve into something that rivals what PS+ offers.

I also hope I don't hear the phrase "Stay frosty" ever again. Unless someone makes a lovely christmas game where I try to train a snow-dog.

Steve Ballmer to stomp so hard he goes through the tent floor and has to present the rest of the show with just his head sticking out. Don Mattrick lays a mic down for him then claps himself.

I'm not really a skeptic, but I had nowhere else to post this in safety.

They need to improve the value of XBLG so I'll want to play online or have so many good single player exclusives that it will justify buying the system solely for single player games.

What I am looking for
- No more paywall
- Games
- Less Kinect focus

What I expect
- Same paywall
- Less games
- Kinect double down
- Pretending that free apps hidden behind paywall = feature
