Xbox: A Nostalgia Thread

This game got a lot of shit for it's graphics including the old "lol looks like N64", but look at this video, all the physics, lighting, and effects going on nothing else came close.

Wreckless Gameplay

that list is laughable when compared to the PS2

Did anyone else like Brute Force?

It was kind of like Advent Rising where it had a lot of flaws but a lot of really interesting concepts as well.
played it co-op and loved it. It wasn't the next halo but I would love a next gen version.

It's sad that someone even needs to say this. What was ps2's best exclusive shooter. killzone? That alone should tell you why some would prefer the Xbox. And it's already been said but multiplatform games looked way better on Xbox as well.

The online thing wasn't a draw for me, and I will not pay to play online when I already pay for internet, and since I don't play first person shooters much there has been little (if any) reason for me to pay attention to Microsoft's consoles.

The thing is, in the context of the time, paying for XBL did not sound so bad to me when neither the PS2 nor the GCN had internet support out of the box (and thus their libraries of MP games were disgusting, fuck the Socom and EQ: Online Adventures apologists). It even made sense to me for the first ~three years of X360, when the PSN left much to be desired. Now? It's a joke no matter how we look at it. I seriously wonder if they'll offer anything substantial in the next gen, or just count on consumer ignorance/apathy.

The hard drive in OG Xbox was such a huge plus. I loved being able to load my own music to the hard drive and use it in racing games.

Busted mine out the other day to play some Def Jam: The Fight for NY. One of my favorite party games of all time.

Jet Set Radio Future.. to this day, so beautiful.

For me:

Xbox>Gamecube>PS2

Xbox had a bunch of WRPG's and shooters that I adored. Gamecube had some of the best Nintendo games of all time. Funny enough, PS2 is the home to my favorite game of all time, MGS 2, but I still didn't care for the rest of its library compared to the other two. I mean it's a great library, but the other two blew it out of the water for me.

I see you came up with a brilliant argument against the many valid points I brought up.

Yes, you came to the Xbox nostalgia thread and told us how awesome PS2 was. Slap yourself on the back. You did a great job. We're all now enlightened.

For me:

Xbox>Gamecube>PS2

For me it was Xbox>PS2>>>>>>>>Gamecube. When Xbox released, I pretty much stopped playing the PS2, but Frequency/Amplitude ensured it would always be plugged in. And then came Guitar Hero.

Exactly and it's funny how bad the ps2's online was, reminds me of ps3 with all the issues, no mics, etc. I remember buying socom and it didn't work online for like a month, what a joke. Compared to ghost recon 2 which ran flawlessly from day one and everyone had mics. Seriously though xbox was the bridge console to hd gaming on consoles.

Why didn't you like the GC? (or are you just saying that the other two were just way above it for you?)

That's funny, because for me

GC > PS2 > Xbox

And I guess you missed where I said I only bought a PS3 (for the first time) a couple of months ago. Just shows some people get butthurt too easily when someone has a different opinion.
Look, I was in retail man. I saw every game that came out during that time. It just didn't appeal to me (for the reasons I stated) yet I still bought one and played games on it for a little while.

It couldn't hold all my lunch.

But seriously, shitty third party support. Shitty online. Pretty much the usual story. And yes, the other two were way above it since they were all-year-round consoles. The GC was a take-it-out-when-a-new-Nintendo-game-was-released console. Not bad by any means.

I never purchased an original Xbox since, but I was interested in one.

I knew of the Rsreware buyout, but because so many of their planned Xbox games were canned I never picked up an original Xbox.

I knew I had to have a 360 the moment I saw the Banjo is Back trailer from 2006. While it wasn't what I expected, I did have a lot of fun with Nuts & Bolts. My Xbox days are probably over considering Rare isn't the same company anymore.

Yeah, pretty much. Though those Nintendo games were DAMN good. Metroid Prime, F-Zero GX, Windwaker, etc. I really loved all those games, but yeah, the Xbox played most of my stuff since it usually looked best on there and I liked the controller the most even back then.

What was the first game you guys played on the 360?

Oblivion here.

Perfect Dark Zero. Was definitely an awesome launch game, but it has aged pretty bad due to the genre being so popular and refined so heavily over the years.

i didn't even know the xbox had a hard drive til the first time i played it in like 04. i didn't understand how my friend was saving without a memory card lol

Ghost Recon
Unreal Championship
Return To Castle Wolfenstien
Rainbow Six 3/Black Arrow
Mech Assault
Phantasy Star Online

These games were my entrance into the online gaming world and I have the Xbox to thank for that.

Underrated? Really? Everyone I know loves that cartoon lol.

i actually forgot about it completely until recently when i caught some reruns on cartoon network. during its original run it was always overshadowed by shows like powerpuff girls and cow and chicken

would really love it if they brought it back

my funnest time with the 360 launch was with G.R.A.W. or otherwise known as GRAW!!!! great times in the early life of the 360. Great fun.

i think the original xbox had better exclusives

but i found that both microsoft consoles are seriously diminished by having a good pc, better multiplats don't mean shit for me

Xbox 1 had a nice little collection of offbeat and Japanese games; much better in that respect than 360 IMO. Wish mine still worked.

Wow! Great OP! I was expecting good but you did a great work. Congrats.

Great memories... This finally got me hyped for the new generation.

Thank you!

Poorly designed, the text was tiny on SDTVs and the "bosses" sucked ass. I also recall the loading screens being atrocious.

I agree with those, but for me that didn't stop it from being a great game. The combat, exploration, weapon variety, and graphics were all pretty awesome.
