Xbox: A Nostalgia Thread

Not bitter, just unsweetened
Xbox 1 really had a phenomenal string of hits

I remember KOTOR, it kinda came out of nowhere... When I went to eb games to pick it up everybody in line didnt preorder and was buying simply because of the string of 100% reviews

I really like Xbox1, so many great games. I call it the sbox (sega box). The 360 was great until 2009 to me, Lost odyssey, pgr 3 and 4, amped 3...

You used a Vegas 2 screenshot to describe Vegas 1. :p

Good stuff in the OP. I came really late in the Xbox family, around Summer 2005 where I bought games like Halo: CE, Halo 2, Ninja Gaiden, Splinter Cell, and more. I got a 360 late 2006 and with that, I bought Dead Rising and Gears of War.

This thread brings back a lot of memories.

I remember the Xbox Live beta days and playing MotoGP with 16 people, the netcode was so silky smooth in that game, such good times.

Oh I remember absolutely hating Azurik lol.

I was hyped for it before the xbox was released, took the bus (yes bus I was 14) to buy it at the mall release day and was sooo disappointed.

Lots of fun times with the 360. I was Sony-Sega/Nintendo for the start of the 128 bit (?) era, but decided to get a 360 for the hell of it a few months after launch. First system I ever bought with my own money (first job, college freshman, no obligations aside from textbooks).

Lost Planet E3 demo blew me away, and from that point on I expected to get E3 demos day 1 :p Was also taken aback by the first Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon footage. Seamless CG to gameplay transfer and "Pixar" graphics had my expectations through the roof. Delivered for the most part, and I still need to play BD hard mode one day.

Also Dead Rising demo has to be one of the best. So much time spent running around there.

I love my X-box 180. I still need to track down Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Indiana Jones that was using the Buffy engine, Breakdown, and Steel Battlelion.

The 360 I liked with Blades, but it was just downhill from 2007 on after J Allard left.

I actually just re-bought an OG Xbox since the 360 compatibility is so bad. The exclusives for the Xbox are just so damn interesting. Things like Breakdown, all the Sega stuff, just a really interesting system all around and one of the only systems without a functioning emulator which was what pushed me to get another one since I have quite a few Xbox discs left over from when I had one originally.

Haha, finally! Definitely subscribing here. Chaos Theory is my favorite game for the system, that was meant to be played on an Xbox.

When Team Ninja was God Tier.

You have no idea how much it hurts. I remember playing NG for the first time. The graphics were so good, couldn't believe what I was seeing. Every other game I played after it looked like crap.

I wish Itagaki would give us a real successor to NG2.

In honor of this thread, I feverishly raided my storage trying to find my long lost xbox. Took a while but I finally found it!

And a box of games:

I have another box of games that I cannot find atm. Tired of searching right now, but I may have to dust her off and boot this baby up (hopefully it still works) and bask in the nostalgia. So many games I had forgotten about. Kudos, OP!

I thought about picking one up again to get steel battalion since I missed out on it when I had the console. Haven't got around to it due to buying for other areas of my collection right now. The BC on the 360 sucks, but it's understandable given the situation and how no one cares about the feature.

I see PSO in there, good man. Definitive version for consoles, had a great time in offline split-screen.

The Xbox was amazing. I still remember playing Crimson Skies on Xbox Live for the first time. It was mindblowing back then that I was playing with people from around the world in real-time. They even displayed the flag of the country that you were from next to your gamertag on the scoreboard, so you could see the country where everyone was from. I couldn't believe that I was playing with people from around the US, the UK and Japan all in a match. And of course, Halo... I can't even tell you how many times I've played system link play with my brothers and my dad. Rockets on Sidewinder was our favorite combo. We ended up getting multiple boxes so everyone didn't screen cheat either. By the end, I think we owned 3 Xbox 1's.

The 360 was easily one of my most favorite consoles, both in terms of hardware (amazing controller) and its games lineup. You also gotta give Microsoft some props on how much they iterate on the OS to make it better. It's been through 3 different major revisions. I don't believe any console OS has ever done this many changes post-release. Plus, with Live on the 360, that's when I really got hooked on Live. Achievements were my crack for a while, and it's now an industry standard with Steam, PS3, Origin, etc all having their own variant of it.

The 360 also has a lot of great apps, and it's now my primary way of watching Netflix and HBO Go. I now use it for general entertainment more than gaming at this point, which is weird in a way. I never would have though it would be that way at the start of the gen.

And love it or hate it but Kinect has been a huge success for them as well, and it really breathed new life into the console mid-generation. For me, the voice controls are the most useful part, since I tend to be watching Netflix or HBO Go more than anything else. There are also some great games for it (Leedmes, Child of Eden, The Gunstringer). A lot of Kinect games are pretty meh, but with next-gen I'm sure a lot of those problems will be fixed (better hardware, software that's being designed for it from the beginning should it should have lower latency, etc).

Can't wait to see what the next-gen will bring.

Fantastic thread dude.

I didn't own an Xbox, but I was sold on the 360 and it's become my most played (and most social) console of all time. Hopefully MS can deliver the goods with the Nextbox too.

I with parties were still compatible with streaming, like Netflix. That was awesome. Really hoping the price and specs are nice. Jumping in early is great, but all the revisions have been very nice.

I do too.

I hope in general that parties play a bigger role on the next Xbox for both games, and also in apps like Netflix. Watching crappy shows with a party was amazing. It sounds dumb, but it was really funny emoting with your avatar during the show. Got way too many laughs using those with my friends.

I still need to play Otogi series and Breakdown. Also people need to play Outrun 2.

Only complaint about the OG Xbox after recently getting acquainted with it: Disc drive getting stuck issues.

I remember not preordering the original xbox and having to call around to EB Games for days to track one down. When I finally did, my wife was furious at me for spending so much money.

Hot damn, that original Xbox 360 menu just hit me with a ton more nostalgia than anything else.

Picked up Unreal Championship 2 recently. Xbox exclusive, which is kind of a shame now since not a lot of people would have played it. An Unreal game with third-person melee combat thrown in, so good.

Also, I still haven't finished Jade Empire.
