Just started sleeping dogs on PC. Got steam keys for it and Hitman Absolution for like $7.50 a piece on enix's website. (and dead island for like 5 bucks, but I have no idea what to expect there)

Just played the real early stuff but it already feels promising. Combat is like a million times better than any other open world game. (at least the hand to hand as that's all I've experienced so far.
I also recently started Sleeping Dogs. Only just started to get access to the open world after completing the opening missions but I agree. There's a good deal of promise on display. The characters are cliched as hell but the fighting is enjoyable (taking some cues from the Arkham games) and there's a good bit of activities to mess around with.

The game doesn't seem to take itself too seriously too which I like.

I'll gladly double dip just for volumetric clouds that were in trailer one but gone ever since.
I'd be surprised if we don't see an eventual next gen release of the game. We won't see anything until after the current gen releases are on the market though.

Sleeping Dogs is one of my favorite games of this generation but I have to put it second to Red Dead Redemption.

Sleeping Dogs takes everything GTA did wrong, and does it right.

I should go back and finish that. I got bored in the beginning stages where you were stuck on the farm, and I lost interest there.

Any of you guys planning on picking up Soul Sacrifice? I'm trying to decide between that and Luigi's Mansion 2 for my next portable game. Supposedly the MP in SS is pretty great, it'd be cool if we could get a group of guys from NFL-GAF to play together.

Can PS4 play PS3 games? I won't play GTA for a long time if it doesn't.
Nope, no backwards compatibility on PS4. They mentioned eventually being able to play PS3 games through the cloud but I doubt that'll be available for at least another year or two.

I'd assume for a game that big they'd have some kind of backwards compat or ps4 version to announce at some point. I'm kind of in the same boat you are, hopefully Bioshock infinite is available to play too :/

Red Dead, not Sleeping Dogs.

I'm not drunk!

Prolly means the ranch you end up at the beginning. What was it, McFarland or something? I should know I 100% this game twice at least...

Haha yeah I was sitting here going "Dang it, I missed a farm level in sleeping dogs!". You should of seen me just now going through gamefaqs, ign and every other site typing in sleeping dogs farm. I eventually lost interest in Red Dead after I got my own house. It was just so easy to get into trouble in that game. Like a yella bellied coward, I shot up the place after losing all my money in a poker game.

GTA Talk reminds me of:

Michael's trailer is my favorite of the bunch. The miserable rich guy with a family angle could go interesting places.

Franklin is dull. Just looks like another CJ/San Andreas redux character.

I should go back and finish that. I got bored in the beginning stages where you were stuck on the farm, and I lost interest there.
Heh, same here actually. Not to mention - release a freaking PC version of the game Rockstar!

Andy Reid: Kansas City Chiefs didn't want Matt Barkley

When the Philadelphia Eagles traded up in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft to take quarterback Matt Barkley, reports emerged that they did so because the Kansas City Chiefs were set to take the former USC standout. Chiefs coach Andy Reid knows how rumors like that get started, and he finds them laughable.

"Well, we weren't going there," Reid told WHB-FM in Kansas City this week. "I actually was on the phone with Nick Saban from Alabama before that day ever started, so that's just not the direction. We had pinpointed (Alabama linebacker) Nico (Johnson) and that's who we were going after.

"I know how rumors start and how people justify picks and all this other stuff, but I think if you look at our roster, we've got Akeem Jordan at middle linebacker; that's the only player that we have there. ... That rumor started and I heard it, and I had to laugh at it. That wasn't even in the picture."

Translation: My old employers in Philadelphia were lying to reporters in order to make themselves look better, and I don't care who knows about it. We like this new Andy Reid.

I never got into GTA, it was just meh to me.

That being said I put down my 3DS and been playing the shit out of my PSP. Playing Valkyrie Profile and having a jolly good time. Put about 8 hours into the game since the weekend. Oh and the battery life on my PSP is better than the 3DS. I do have to pick up Fire Emblem though.

The Steelers have signed 6 udfa offensive linemen. They also signed Utah WR Reggie Dunn, who ran a 4.22 40 yard dash at his pro day.

No, it wont even play PSN games. sucks that I have this library of PSN games and PS+ games that cant be played on the new Playstation. MS better figure out some way to get BC working day 1.

PS4 not being able to play PSN games in retrospect is hilarious considering the browbeating the Wii got.

It wouldnt piss me off so much if Sony hadnt pushed the idea of a unified network across devices so much. It sucks that either I have to have 2 Sony consoles hooked up to my TV or I just wash my hands of hundreds of dollars of games. It is absolutely ridiculous that they couldnt have come up with a better option when they had like 7 years to plan for this.

Sony's long term plan is to leverage the Gaikai business to provide backwards compatibility to their entire library across all of their platforms. That's not likely to happen quickly and I have a feeling we'll get more of a feel out process this generation with some key games seeing support but the long term prospect is exciting to me. Gaikai as a service was far ahead of OnLive and with the proper support and financial backing, it could be the key to answering any and all backwards compatibility questions for all Sony platforms moving forward. Including the Vita and any handhelds having access to PS3/PS2 games, etc.

Realistic outlook: Most people don't give a shit about those "hundreds of games" once a new generation truly gets going anyways. Regardless of platform.

That's a blanket generalization of course but there's a reason PS2 BC was dropped from the PS3 at a hardware level and why MS dropped Xbox BC midway into the 360's lifespan.

If the Durango has the 360 SOC onboard at launch to allow for BC, I'd bet money it will get dropped midway to reduce costs as the generation continues as well.

BC has always been a "boutique" feature to me. Sounds great from the get-go but has less meaning as time goes on.

The decisions that went into the PS3 managed to bite Sony in the ass one final time.Maybe they'll incorporate in a few years down the line when PS3 hardware is refined enough to be bolted to the console.

Biggest reason is that pre hd games loook really really ugly on Big Screen HD tv's. Won't have that issue with PS3 era games.

Couldn't get into xenoblade because it was soooooo ugly.

I liked Sleeping Dogs better. Played them back to back. Red Dead is so much more immersive. The world and story are so much more interesting. But the gameplay and missions are just nowhere near Sleeping Dogs, where the gameplay is so polished and crisp. It was glorious to finally play a GTA game with controls that weren't butt shit. They really do GTA better than Rockstar ever did. In Red Dead every other mission you had to ride alongside a carriage and protect it. They really thought making half the game an escort mission was a good idea? Having to ride with your posse to the start of every mission was dumb too. Also the aiming system was broken as shit. Everytime you pulled the trigger to zoom, it autolocked on the closest enemy, so every shootout was spent repeatedly zooming in to autolock, one hit killing the guy with your rifle, then unzooming so you can just pull the trigger again and autolock on the next enemy. Gameplay was pretty much on autopilot. Not to mention the trademark GTA awful hand to hand combat which I have no idea why they included as it's only used twice in the whole game. Meanwhile Sleeping Dogs actually makes you aim, has hand to hand combat rivaling the recent Batman games, and way better driving mechanics than GTA IV. It is pretty much everything GTA should be but isn't

I don't think that was the biggest reason, otherwise they wouldn't have such a market for PS Classics games. It was a cost-cutting measure, pure and simple. Costs didn't outweigh the benefits.

MS only dropped BC because like 99% of OG XBOX games worked. If you buy a new 360 it still plays OG XBOX games because MS went with a software solution rather then a hardware solution. I hope the Gaikai thing works great because the idea of streaming games sounds great to me. My guess is MS will have some kind of hardware BC at launch and eventually phase it out once they can do it through software. MS makes so much money off selling GoD and XBLA games I cant imagine them giving that up. I could totally see someone whose; first console is a 720 grabbing a Halo pack off of the XBOX store.

It's the biggest reason why there isn't more of a demand to play ps2 era games; not the biggest reason in why they dropped it.

Not even close. 99% of the ones people wanted, sure.:) Even then the ones that did work weren't guaranteed to work 100%. Silent Hill 2 is an absolute mess via 360 BC for instance. They happily put it on the list though! It booted up, afterall.

I hope the Gaikai thing works great because the idea of streaming games sounds great to me.
The technology needs to mature to improve the performance, reduce necessary bandwidth and provide an improved experience than what we've seen up until now but I'm genuinely excited about it. I'm excited that one of the big three is actually putting some muscle behind it and like any other technology out there it's not frozen in time. What Gaikai is today isn't what it's going to be five years from now...

It's the biggest reason why there isn't more of a demand to play ps2 era games; not the biggest reason in why they dropped it.
Current gen games being better looking won't impact that that demand much either, IMO. Its just a natural progression of moving onto new games and creating a whole new backlog of stuff to play. Frankly, much of the grousing about lack of BC in this next generation has to do with the XBLA and PSN libraries people have built up. Most of these smaller titles are hardly going to blow you away visually.

Did I black out? The Eagles drafted Matt Barkley?
Yep, top of the fourth round.

Speaking of QB's, Geno Smith has fired his agents at Select Sports. Some of the beat writers on why:

Mike Garafolo @MikeGarafolo 16m

As suspected, I'm told a big part in Geno's decision was his displeasure w/ where he was drafted. Doubt any agent could've helped that one.

Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 18m

How about this: Geno Smith thought he would be & should be the No. 1 overall pick, I'm told. That's why he fired his agents.

"Every team's goal is to bring in more talent in the draft. The Jets found a way to bring in more quarterback drama. Tim Tebow out, Geno Smith in. (Hensley)"

...

so the jets bring in a new quarterback to replace the shitty old ones and somehow this is "drama"?

okay.

Did I black out? The Eagles drafted Matt Barkley?

Yeah they traded up for the Jags pick. Seems Chip has a huge hardon for Barkley dating back several years. He is going to compete for the starting job day 1 according to Chip. Seems the Eagles are going to run an offense very similar to what the Pats run.

They better be damn confident in Barkley's decision-making then, because the Pats offense relies on making the perfect read and chewing up yardage.

Technically it isnt really forward compatible without adding new hardware though. Game do come out that require newer graphics cards or better processes.

Yeah. I'll have to update the graphics card in about 10 years if I don't get one sooner. Most pc games scale really well to keep the user base as broad as possible. There's never a sudden break in compatibility. It's both good and bad. Good in that upgrading is rarely necessary, just optimal. Bad in that it never leads to rabid fanboys queued up at a launch.
