Arrested Development Season 4: The Bluths are making new mistakes!

They got wishy washy with it and ultimately decided it wasn't technically going to be a documentary, because it just wouldn't make sense for some of the scenes. It's more of a framing device than an actual plot thing, and they don't abuse the format with endless talking heads. They do use it for jokes sometimes, when it's convenient.

i'm glad they made a decision, and decided not to keep the show straddling what ad became and a normal mockumentary like the idiots in charge of modern family.

You forgot the third part that actually talks about AD.
Well,

Woah Bateman drops some pretty big news in that interview. The episodes wont be linear episodes at all. They will be the same acts as seen by the different actors. So you are encouraged to pause where you are, open another actor's "story" and continue from there?

Seems like a lot of work.

Well we've known about the nonlinear thing for a long long time now. Before the Netflix announcement even, maybe.

Moer minor snippets:

Somebody rated the Road to Season 4 documentary before they took it down. Looks like they've updated the image since

It's OPENING!

Secondly, I wonder if that shipping container has something to do with the greater plot of the new season. Some kind of smuggling operation? The discovery of some long lost Bluth artifact?

This has me worried

It does bum me out that it wont be the traditional episode structure.

Its probably Gob with a magic trick or something. :lol

He did put an emphasis on the idea that these new episodes aren't structured quite like the old series, but honestly as long as it's still funny I couldn't care less. I'm actually glad they're taking a little bit of a risk instead of simply trying to pick up right where the show left off, both chronologically and creatively. The original show was ground-breaking in the mainstream sitcom area, and it only makes sense for them to venture out into uncharted territory with the new season.

It's always fascinating to watch season 3 knowing Rita's "secret." I knew something was ff but they did a great job of dropping tons of hints while not drawing too much attention to it.

The
"How would you like someone going after some stupid person in your family?"
line is brilliant. Nearly fell out laughing when I caught that on a second watch.

I approve. Ballsy, but I love it. If they pull it off it's going to be incredible. I'm glad they're not aping the past seasons.

I think the simultaneous method is a great idea. First of all, you can just watch them straight through the first time. And secondably, they know fans love to rewatch the episodes over and over, so it's a cool dynamic to add for those who really want to dig in.

New Tony Hale interview on any possible "hesitation" in returning as Buster.

And, oddly enough, “Arrested Development” returns for a new season – this time on Netflix – beginning May 26. The original cast, including Hale, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Portia de Rossi and Jessica Walter, returns.

“After we got canceled, everyone went in their different directions,” Hale says. “Last fall, the New Yorker invited the whole cast for a little reunion, and it was really fun to bring everyone together at once. That’s when we got the news from Mitch that it was actually happening.”

It wasn’t the first time that “Arrested Development” had been rumored to return, either as a feature film or for a new TV season.

“You hear these rumors, but you don’t know what’s going to happen,” says Hale, who lives in Los Angeles with his wife and 7-year-old daughter. “When Netflix made the choice, it was thrilling. But it was also kind of like you’ll believe it when you get on the set.”

What Hale loved and still loves about “Arrested Development” is Hurwitz’s writing, and his ability to not fit in any kind of comedy or TV mold.

“I just love that element of surprise, of not having any idea what’s coming next,” Hale says. “Look at my character. His hand was bitten off by a seal; Liza Minnelli was my girlfriend. You’re just constantly surprised.”

And revisiting Buster Bluth was easier than Hale imagined it would be.

“If there was a hesitation, not having done the character in seven years, there was a concern of whether I could match expectations,” Hale says. “But when I first heard Jessica Walter’s voice – the character’s mother – it was just a click right back in.”

And David Cross too and hints of Tobias' backstory for S4.

In an interview with Vulture, Cross teased that audiences will learn a great deal about analyst and therapist Tobias.

"It's what the absence of being on TV for seven years necessitates. Which is, you have to catch up on these characters," Cross explained.

He went on to tease: "There's flashbacks, there's flash-forwards, what they're doing now, what brings them together as a group again even though they've gone their separate ways, like a lot of families do.

"What happened when Lucille was arrested from taking the Queen Mary out? You have to explain certain things."

STOKED. netflix needs to air some commercials for this though. I know everyone who watched arrested dev already knows and will be there day 1, but I mean, it airs next month and there is NO footage?

Quite. Needs to happen real soon.

Also, are we gonna be having an OT soon? Or will it just be a case of renaming the thread and see how this thread pans out?

Hopefully once Hemlock Grove comes out Netflix turns all attention to AD. Hemlock Grove comes out on Friday... maybe we'll get something next week?

You have to wait until the end of the BananaThon.
On April 26th we get that "The Road to Season 4" or whatever video.
After that, we'll get a more steady stream of info and teases up until AD Day.

I love arrested development as much as anyone but AD Day is not especially sensitive to the veterans/families of veterans, especially with its proximity to memorial day and the actual D day (june 6).

Its 11 days apart, stop being so sensitive.

If anything the term just sucks.

Promo advert on building on Sunset Blvd. in downtown LA, nearly finished. EDIT: Better pics

It looks like there's a security camera on the ceiling in the back, and Lucille has come kinda of house arrest ankle bracelet. In any case, it's looking more and more likely that the shipping container has some significant role to play in the new season. New staircar/cabin?

EDIT: Some further googling reveals it's more precisely about a block from the corner of Sunset and Van Ness
