Point & Click adventures in 2012. Best so far, the kickstarters and the future.

...but what if you found The Dig disc ver. for $25 =O?

LOL, then fuck the Dig mang :p Seriously, i have it on Steam, haven't even played it yet either, i am good. I have so many games to play i couldn't even possibly do it in 3 lifetimes so yeah, pretty much the ONLY game i'd pay more than 25 bucks to get right now would be a Suikoden II in good condition (unfortunately that'd be a whole lot more than 25 bucks lol)

Something like Rise of the Phoenix or The Sleeping Giant Awakens for the title would fit well since 2013 is shaping up to be the best year for the genre since the nineties.

Damn that is a GREAT deal it seems... I don't have time for any new games right now but for those that are looking for some decent to good PnCs i'd say go for it!

Another for 2013.
Cognition Episode 2: The Wise Monkey launches January 30th 2013.

When someone close to Erica is kidnapped by the Wise Monkey, a serial killer fixated on the gruesome mutilation of their victims, and Erica is in a race against time to save his life. With the Wise Monkey case in her hands and the FBI's resources already stretched thin, she's on her own to find the killer before it’s too late.

Straight from the dev about Episode 2 of Journey Down.

Anyhow this is great news for us and also for anyone eager to see more progress on TJD2 - because it means we'll soon be able to give Chapter Two our undivided attention. We've been crazy sidetracked by the iOS release, but finally that's about to change!

Tried the demo for Deponia, looks absolutely stunning but man, is it just me? Rufus sounds annoying, certainly not someone I want to listen to for an entire game. :/

I find myself in this boat for just about every non-native-English adventure game released in the last few years. Unless it's something without dialogue like Machinarium! God I love Machinarium.

Same here. I just downloaded The Journey Down and the voice-overs in that game have been very hit or miss. Game LOOKS great but yikes so of the voice-overs annoy the heck out of me...

Yeah, you can tell they were aiming for a Monkey Island style goof, but ended up with a character far too annoying. He does grow on you a bit but I think that might be because the villains make him look less annoying in comparison.

Adventure games discounts from Steam Christmas Sale.
I will try and list the ones I know of, just click for prices as they will vary per region.

I will update this post if they add daily deals/flash deals, or reply with link, again just click on the pics to take you to the page.

Always worth mentioning the golden rule of WAIT for the flash/daily sales, if the game doesn't pop up on flash/daily sales then buy it on last day of sale.

Considering getting The Next BIG Thing. Anyone have any impressions of it?

Having not played it myself here's what another gaffer thought last year.

Quick review:

It's definitely quirky, but I really enjoy its humor. There are some very funny, offbeat moments in the game. Plus, Liz Allaire is one of the most interesting game characters in a long time. She has personality quirks that show up throughout the game and they are both hilarious and charming. Some very well written parts of the game.

It is a little on the short side. There are 6 chapters and my game time at completion was about 8-9 hours. I tried to catch every conversation and took my time in most environments. The graphics and animation are absolutely beautiful.

I wouldn't say it's a tough adventure game. I only got stuck once or twice. You can play with a help feature on or off (I played off) as well as hot spot feature on or off (I played on). With hot spot on, you can click at the top of the screen and it will reveal all of the screens hot spots. Most of the puzzles are straightforward, only a couple leaps of logic.

The game seemed to have a few bugs, no crashes but like the wrong character lip syncing a line or an object mislabeled. Only like 2-3 things I noticed.

I definitely recommend if you're looking for an old school adventure with great graphics and animation, quirky characters, and an offbeat storyline.

If you want to take a look there is always the demo on steam.

How's Law and Order Legacies?
Oh and I found a Disc ver. of The Dig but the stupid shop's selling it for $15 >=/

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Has anybody played that Operation Valkyrie game? Looks interesting.

Anyone got impressions of The Dream Machine, Journey Down, or The Sea Will Claim Everything?

I've bought all of them, but which one should I play first now? I'm leaning towards The Sea Will Claim Everything because of SOME-MIST's post.

The Dream Machine is pretty awesome but you might as well wait until the last two episodes are completed ten years from now. I'm really enjoying The Sea Will Claim Everything and I haven't played The Journey Down yet!

So I guess you should play The Sea Will Claim Everything because it's the only one that's actually finished.

The Dream Machine is awesome - although incomplete. The first episode is extremely short, and the other 2 could take a couple of hours max. You can get through all of the available content for The Dream Machine in close to one sitting. If you don't mind the other 2 episodes being unavailable, then I'd save The Sea Will Claim Everything (even though I prefer it) and I'd recommend just beating the dream machine in a day or two.

Haven't played Journey Down yet either.

would also like to hear impressions along with The Secret Files games and Lost Horizon

I've played the first two Secret Files games and Lost Horizon.

They're all fairly standard Euro-adventures in execution, but both have stronger scripts than the norm - the banter and chemistry between the leads is entertaining. Secret Files 2 and Lost Horizon are the strongest; Lost Horizon in particular has some good puzzling towards the end.

I've not played 3 so I can't comment on that.

This sale is doing my willpower no good at all. I know I'll never play most of them, but OMG SO MANY ADVENTURES I COULD BUY.

Ok, will play The Dream Machine then first! :) First claymation game since Neverhood, one of my favorite games.

I am also curious about The Secret Files. From the screenshots it seems to be a bit of a "mystery-setting" like the Broken Sword games. I don't expect them to be of the same quality, but I love me some good mysteries. Is it kind of the same "feeling" in them?

Sort of, I enjoyed them. They are also really "easy" to play. You can't combine stuff that aren't relevant, you have the hotspot indicator and stuff like that. I just find them relaxing to play, everything you need is available with a mouse click which is great for me because I like to play these games with a cup of coffee in one hand.

From what I played I thought it was shit. But I didn't get far. Just seemed like an after thought.

Everyone should check out Culpa Innata. One of my favorite point and clicks. Great sci-fi included.

2 hours into The Dream Machine, now actually in the machine. This is pretty freakin' cool, obviously love the art style, simple but effective puzzles. Pretty funny at times like the mover with "door-to-door" service. Great atmosphere, I like apartment settings in games. My sister finds Victor to have a really creepy face XD

Pregnant dream was crazy.

Do not buy Primordia. Breaks my heart. Not a good game. Poor writing. Terrible puzzle design. :(

I pre-ordered based on the art and the fact that Wadjet Eye has been producing excellent games lately. The production values remind me of a later Lucasarts release. Impressive stuff.

I've only played for a few minutes, though, and my first impression is that the sidekick is Blackwell's Joey turned up to 11. I would have been happier without a sarcastic robot making irritating comments about absolutely everything!

Bring on Blackwell 5 pls.

This is the truth. CI is a special, atmospheric and really enjoyable experience. It's a pity that there hasn't been any news on its successor in quite a while, though.

Pretty sure they just released a[the] book, but yes, I really would love you know if they plan on releasing the sequel. I hear different things.

What in particular didn't you like about the design? I thought there were a couple of pretty nice "thinky" puzzles - the kiosk in particular - and admired the number of ways to solve a lot of the others. But I think there were a lot of frustrating elements to the game and despite the multitudinous options available I have no desire to play it again.

Deponia is up for vote on the Community Choice, 66% discount on show but but it's already 66%, possibly misprint and it means 75%?
I'm secretly hoping this takes more than 66% off all the Daedalic games in the bundle :p
Gave it a vote anyways.

Yeah gotta say I disagree with this also. Primordia is one of my favorite games of the year.

Deponia is now 75% off to make it $4.99. I highly recommend it; I thought it was one of the best adventure games I've played in recent memory.

Out of interest, have you played any other Daedalic adventures and, if so, how does it compare to those? I've found their games disappointing in the past, so am wary of Deponia despite the cheap price.

I've just recently finished Whispered World (with the judicious use of walkthrough) and absolutely hated it. One of the worst adventure games I've played recently. I've played an hour or so of Edna & Harvey: The Breakout; not long enough to give a definite opinion on it, but I like it enough so far to probably pick up Harvey's New Eyes before the end of the Steam sale.

Deponia is the definitely best of the bunch that I have played.
