Matthew Vaughn NOT Directing X-Men: Days of Future Past

Isn't Secret Service mediocre? I think I read the first issue and I don't remember anything about it.

Hopefully Bryan Singer doesn't dial down the comic book feel of the movie like he always does.

It's Mark Millar, of course it was mediocre.

Anyway, I'm okay with Singer doing this. People are bringing up Superman Returns but I think one of the big problems with that is how much he idolised the Donner films, to the point where he basically tried to remake them. I don't think the same thing exists with him and the X-Men and while the first two films weren't the greatest, at least with this one, there'll be no fucking Wolverine to take up 99% of the screen time.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
I couldn't care less about the X-Men franchise anymore. It's been dead to me after X2's peak. First Class was a boring mess outside of Fassbender.

Oooh boy, can't wait for another shitty Mark Millar movie too!

This is the 3rd Xmen film, forget all the others. Singer has returned.
Yes and no. If he can't bring in Dougherty and his normal writing team (which he won't), then I'm a little bummed. Fox wants this shit shooting in the next couple months. Singer is basically a director for hire more than what he did on the first two films.

Still better than having Vaughn direct it though.

This isn't blowing their wad. Blowing their wad would be to give us a proper Dark Phoenix movie.

oh come on its one of the bigger stories in xmen history, like AoA, Fall of mutants, and the Phoenix/Dark Saga. I know phoenix saga is this big stand out but Xmen were known for more than just that awesome crossover , they have many so yeah i think it is pretty big and hope its good, i cant help but think people would be discouraged about the franchise is a story like this ends up coming out like shit. That would be like...Sony doing Kravens Last Hunt and it being done horribly..Id want spidey out of Sony's hands.

Phoenix would have been better if only because this story is only coming now after Fox has totally borked the franchise and we don't have the main X-men for the story.

I wonder how close it will get to the actual Days of the Future Past, considering they are going in with none of the actual X-Men from that event.

I love Vaughn. Layer Cake, Stardust, and Kick-Ass were all fantastic films but I never really enjoyed First Class, perhaps it was the rushed post production I don't know. Singer coming back is fine by me. Let Vaughn go do new crazy things, he's good at it.

Actually bringing back Bryan Singer is the worst possible decision they could make after the disasters of the X-men movie and the Superman Returns flick. What really bothers me is the films take liberties with the X-men universe fiction and completely change the time lines. And then these clowns decide to bring back a director who admitted himself that he's never read an X-men comic in his life.

I never liked how in the films they've sidelined Cyclops, made him completely stupid and useless even though he's the most senior. The whole Jean Grey & Cyclops thing is also barely touched on. Never liked how they toned down Wolverine's character, he's far more brutally hardcore in the comics and a complete ANTIHERO. And Storm never really does anything even though she is very experienced and one of the most powerful X-men.

Character-wise and story wise the comic books are far superior to the movies.

I liked First Class at first, but my GOD does it not hold up during subsequent viewings. Other than Prof X and Magneto, the characters/story/special effects are so fucking bad.

First Class was mainly fuck awful so handing it to Singer is works for me.

I thought I was the only person that felt this way. It wasn't the directors fault entirely but still. Characters I could give two shits about, crappy action, cheesy costumes, god-awful special effects. It all felt so amateur.

Same. I don't get the hate for Singer or the love for First Class. Yes, it's a shock that First Class didn't end up being a complete turd (Fantastic Four sized) considering how quickly it was filmed. But the story sucked, it just didn't work for me at all. The only characters they spent any time putting depth behind were Professor X and Magneto, and even those weren't done particularly well. Character deaths don't have impact when they've only been in like two scenes...

X2 was better than First Class for me, so I'm okay with Singer taking the reins.

Oh we doing rankings? Cool.

X2 >> X1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> First Class > X3 >>>>>>>>>>>>> blowing an aids-infested bleedy dick >>>> Wolverine.

Enjoyed the fist X-Men to a certain degree, but loved X2. Singer seems to love the X-Men property, so this is good news to me.

Anyone but Brett... he took X-Men into Schumacher Batman levels of low.

I wish they would just reboot the franchise at this point. I want another movie with mutants I care about in it.

I'm not interested in seeing this story done but with the first class cast. Even if Brian Singer ends up directing.

First Class was a reboot, I think.

Holy shit, people really overreact about Brett Ratner. X3 sucked, but it in no way is as terrible as fucking Batman & Robin.

That's about right, but I'd put a few more ">" between First Class and X3.

edit: And yeah, Ratner can't really take all the blame for X3. It was going to suck no matter what at that point. If anything he should be commended for making it not incredibly terrible.
