I still can't wait for this game. I only cared about a few characters on Nintendo's Super Smash Brothers so this looks WAAAAYYYYY better for me. I really hate how Nintendo fanboys think that Nintendo owned this type of game and nothing could ever compare.

game looks like shit, but I guess that's what you get when your inspiration is a Nintendo game

I wouldnt go that far. Its definitely not the best looking game ever, but certainly doesnt look like shit. The one thing that disappoints me is how low rez Drakes character model looks. Each character is supposed to bring the feel of their franchise with them. Uncharted is known for its great graphics, but Drake looks worse then a lot of the other character. I think extra detail should of been put into his character model.

Its my opinion that the graphics are not pushing the PS3 because of Vita. They said multiple times during E3 that the Vita version would look the same as the PS3. There probably having to make some concessions on Vita to maintain a consistent 60fps. I could be wrong there may end up being technical differences between the two versions.

He's summoning Kuma, his loyal pet bear in the Tekken series.

Oh cool. Is that his level two super? Does it go on auto pilot or do you have some control over what it attacks?

The graphics seem like they'll probably look a lot better on Vita than on PS3. There's just not enough detail in them for a big screen, but when it's on a small screen and you've got that high resolution and 60FPS I bet it'll look really nice.

If I had a Vita I'd definitely buy it there instead of on PS3. Just seems like it'll fit a lot better. The game is not very fascinating to watch, but everyone who plays it seems to love it. Guess we'll see.

The highlight for me is the level design. The levels are brilliant and extremely well done. The low point is the focus of the mechanics. The supers thing just doesn't seem very fun...the pacing seems off or something. It looks like the game feels 'pointless' most of the time you're playing. I don't know how to properly explain it.

You really think it's only the Nintendo fanboys who are calling this game a smash bros. clone?

Its obviously a clone, but a lot of people seem to believe that it doesn't deserve to exist and can't possibly be any good in its own right. Thankfully people have pretty much gotten over it now, but it wasn't pretty when this was revealed

Nice choices, although I would have preferred Devil Jin. :p I still HATE the Super to KO mechanic, but I'm willing to try a demo before I write it off completely.

I'd have to disagree with the pointless comment. Attacking and doing combos is what fills your meter. Think of that meter as a "damage meter", once you do enough damage you'll level up your meter. If you dont do this you'll never be able to execute supers and therefor will never win. So attacking and doing damage, or everything you do before execute the supers, is quite important and not pointless.

As far as the supers mechanic itself and whether its fun, I dont know. People that have played it have said its a blast and have been pleasantly surprised. I need to play it first.

edit: btw can anyone explain to me the relevance of Heihachi's lvl 3 super? I dont understand what him strapping people to a rocket has to do with the Tekken franchise. Although I admit its pretty hilarious.

Thing is, the game looks fantastic on both the Vita and the big screen. I feel bad repeating myself over and over again, but one of the things that surprised me and stood out about PBR, was how good it looked actually running on the hardware.

My first glimpse of it was the Hades stage as I walked up to the booth. I was impressed by the level of detail in the background, and how much the colors popped (ie, the purples and oranges and reds in Hades).

After that, I finally found an empty kiosk and snagged a controller. During the round start character introductions, I was also impressed by the character models. No, Kratos didn't look like his God of War 3 counterpart, but I thought he looked really good, with a more "cartoony" look. I liked it. He still had some detail and definition, but it felt like it meshed well with the overall aesthetic of the game (this kind of exaggerated, cartoon look). Basically, if they turned God of War into an animated series, this is how Kratos would look. The other characters from traditionally non-cartoony games looked the same.

After that first round on PS3, I switched to the Vita, expecting the visuals to look a lot worse, since the PS3 visuals actually impressed me. I was wrong. There was very little compromise, visually, but the image was sharp and colorful as well ("dat OLED", etc, etc).

What was even more important to me than how it looked, was how it felt. I love SSB, but one of my complaints was always how floaty and imprecise the controls felt to me. I never quite felt like I had supreme control over my characters when running, jumping, and evading, etc.

I didn't have that problem with PBR. The controls were tight and responsive, and didn't feel floaty at all. Combos were easy enough to pull off (at least with Kratos; one of two characters I played as). By the time I started my third round, I felt like I was getting a handle on the character, and how to string together combos and finish with a Level 1 super effectively. I actually won that final round as Kratos (the other folks were too busy trying to save up for Level 2's and 3's, I just picked them off with Level 1's when the opportunity arose).

I loved seeing the various character's signature moves and weapons/items as well. Kratos, from what I remember, had his bow, his blades, the Sword of Zeus, the Cestus, Medusa's head, and something else I can't quite remember. Lol. Sly (the other character I played as), had some of his signature moves as well.

I would have stayed in that booth and played it all damn E3, but I didn't want to hog it up.

For me, this game perfectly scratches that Smash Bros itch I've had since Brawl released (I never got to play much of Brawl, because I don't own a Wii, and neither do any of my friends). I do own a PS3 and Vita, however, and will snatch this bitch up on one of them (probably Vita), or, if they do indeed do a $80 bundle, both.

For me, the visuals and game play are rather quality. That's all that matters in the end. Well, that, and, as a long time PlayStation fan (since 1995!), the fan service. I'm expecting good things from the roster, and find the comments in the various PBR threads about the roster/iconic nature of it hilarious.

Most PS fans are shitting themselves with glee over a game like this. Nintendo doesn't have the lock down on mascot brawlers you know.

I don't know about most, but I have more history with PlayStation characters than I do with Nintendo characters so this game looks interesting to me.
I also think the hate on this forum for the game is somehow making me like the game even more. ;-)

But then again I'm not thinking that developers are not allowed to make clones of games and perhaps even improve upon them. Darksiders was a better Zelda than the last two Zeldas for me.

How did Drake look? In the videos and screens his clothes look really low rez.

I just noticed, regarding Toro's super move involving Kuro. It looks like Kuro does a dropkick, booting Toro in the back and launching him into the opponent. That's hilarious.

If anyone missed this from last night: Heihachi vs. Toro, 1v1

Thanks a lot. I haven't seen any footage of the new characters or stage yet, just the trailers. Much appreciated.

Super meter should not be looked at as kill attacks but as reverse health bar. So you're playing as a character and the aim is to increase your 'health bar' as apposed to preventing it from decreasing like in a traditional fighting game. In such games when your health reaches zero you die, in PBR you have to make you 'health' reach 100% and when you do the opponent is practically dead, or is he? Unlike traditional fighters if your health is zero there is no going back that round, here with its 'reverse health bar' when the opponent reaches full meter you can still avoid it. The fighting is not meaningless at all as meter management plays a very important role.

She could have a really interesting playstyle and her supers are no-brainers. I hope she is seriously considered for DLC or a sequel if she doesn't make the cut this time.

A Gravity Rush stage would probably be crazy as well.

Gravity Rush X Loco Roco Gravity stage

I want to believe.

Detective time!

Something I noticed about the character reveals:

First batch - 2 PSX, 2 PS2, 2 PS3
E3 - 2 PS3 (1 Sony, 1 guest)
Evo - 2 PSX (1 Sony, 1 guest)

Obviously, continuing this pattern would give us…
Comic-Con - 2 PS2 (1 Sony, 1 guest)

According to this leak, Jak is featured in the live action trailer, the first part of which was revealed yesterday. Assuming the rest of the footage will be included in the Comic-Con trailer, we're probably going to see Jak. This fits in with my little hypothesis, seeing as how Jak debuted on the PS2. He'd be revealed alongside a third party character from the PS2, and Grand Theft Auto and Devil May Cry are the most immediate series that spring to mind.

So, yeah, my Comic-Con guesses: Jak and either Dante or Claude/Tommy Vercetti/CJ.

How about no.

GTA characters would be a little too....much. Max Payne can work....sort of?

Still feel Cole would be the choice at comic con

I think Kat will make it in. They seem to be trying to have a game or character represented from every PS device. Toro represents the Pocket Station, since that was the device that he debuted on. The PSP is currently being represented by the Patapon stage. So they need something to represent the Vita, and Kat is really the only choice.

Jak and Ratchet, or Sora or something.

If you want a PS2 era design for a third party, Big Boss.
Jak and Ratchet are first party, and Disney might not want to involve themselves with this. Aren't they picky when it comes to licensing Kingdom Hearts stuff out? We're definitely getting Snake, so Big Boss would be redundant (and it's been said that there's only going to be one playable character per franchise).

We don't actually know if we're getting Snake over Big Boss. Cole's voice actor said he was recording stuff alongside David Hayter. Hayter plays both characters.

That's what I've been thinking. Or hoping at any rate.

Fingers crossed that SuperBot's thinking the same thing.

Which third party characters originating from the PS2 era would be more appropriate?
Leon Kennedy - Most famous game was on PS2 and has synergy with the upcoming RE6 game.
Meg Ryan from Final Fantasy X, has synergy with the upcoming Final Fantasy X HD port.
The protagonist from Persona 4. Has Synergy with The Golden.
Amaterasu - was used before for cross-over and has upcoming HD port.

For Comic-con I hope they reveal Cole and Kat. Comic-con has anime fans, right? And Gravity Rush is some anime stuff. :p

I saw it say that you can counter Supers, which is good, but I missed the explanation.

Can you counter with regular attacks, or just using you're own Supers?

You can counter with Supers if you watch the Toro trailer you can see an example of it where big daddy is charging at him while enraged

Bwahaha, that was awesome. It does seem a bit low rent so hopefully they'll spruce that up closer to release.

Yeah yeah I know :p

I love Sony games too but I had to call that out, avatar be damned

I only avatar quoted you because I can see Angry Kirby saying that.

I hope that rival cutscenes take place in stages or something instead of just that blue area. It was amusing though.

That woudl defeat the purpose I think if you counter counter with regular moves.

Not really. It could depend on the Super, like in MvC or something.

Not bad additions, but not great ones either. I sincerely hope Cloud, Alucard, Lara Croft, or other third party characters of their caliber are in this game. I still fully expect to see Cole, Jak/Daxter, Ratchet, Sackboy, and a few other Sony staples.
