I feel like with Ubisoft, it's not a matter of if an Assassin's Creed character will get in, but which assassin will be chosen. Between Ubisoft's openness for putting their characters, especially assassins, in other things - see FFXIII-2, TF2, MGS4, and SCV - and the way the AC series is often given a stronger push on the PS3, I'd honestly be a little surprised if an assassin doesn't get in.

Which one, though?

Altair:

+ The first assassin, arguably the more classic design.
- The first game is pretty much universally agreed to be the weakest.

Ezio:

+ The most popular, since he's been in the most games and the best games thus far.
+ Has had three games to build up a potential move list.
- Has been in so much since he premiered in 2009. People might be a little bit tired of him.

Connor:

+ Will be the most recent main character when All-Stars releases.
- His tools and fighting style seem to be different from the more iconic stuff in the series. No sword, no dual hidden blade; instead, the tomahawk, bow, and gun.
- Depending on when they finalized the character selection, and how open Ubisoft wanted to be about the development of AC3, they may not have even known about Connor early enough to get him in.

I'd say Ezio and Connor have about an equal chance, depending on the circumstances. I'm kinda hoping for Connor, personally.

If they decide to go for Ezio, I bet it wouldn't be a problem for them to make Altaïr an alternative skin for the same character. They don't really differ too much in the AC games, and would probably differ even less in this game.

That's another one of those European PSN releases I'd kill for in the states. Someday.

I SWEAR I got a demo disc back in the day with this game on it. I don't remember the soundtrack being as epic as this, I would've remembered that. This is gonna drive me bonkers until I find that disc, if I even have it still.

Also, I want to see this cross counter preview. Any live gameplay in it? I really wish we could update the OP with all the new details and gameplay.

Yes yes yes! Thank you~ I don't have much time these days, I've been trying to keep up with all the new videos coming out and all the posts here. I was so used to having almost no coverage pre E3 and now there's gameplay everywhere.

I'm even writing a personal blog dissecting the gameplay and how it's fundamentally different from SSB thanks to the new scoring system. Originally I really, really disliked the idea but now I'm all on board after hearing you can roll to dodge the supers.

You can pick up a shield that will protect you as well from supers.

Sigh, that cross counter preview, one of the first things Omar says is "There's no knocking dudes off levels, we don't even have that concept in the game" ... I was hoping there was at least some levels with ring outs :( This means all levels will be boxed in.

The jak and daxter level is not boxed in.

kinda ashamed to ask this... i'm easily a huge fan of this game already. but i fail to know one thing...

when a player kills their opponent, does the opponents super meter go lower? and lastly, by doing normal attacks, does the opponents super meter also go lower?

No, there are several way to lower the meter but defeat is not one of them.

No normal attacks do not lower the meter as well.

In this video Omarr Kendall says that being killed doesn't affect the super meter but certain items and stuff can.

haha. when i posted my questions, i just got to the part where he said it.

at least there are other ways. but anyways, a bit oot and all, but i really hate how the characters glow when they have a super. :\ looks so tacky.

Wow. I'm starting to love the 'to kill, you need to use supers' approach. but damn, some of the supers look boring. :| kratos would be the only whose level 1-3 looks nice.

Which supers don't you like?

i find drakes level 1 extremely dull. looks like a normal attack move to me. And Sweet Tooth's level 1-2. i guess im just picky. I know level 1-2s arent supposed to look fancy pancy and all that, but I guess some characters just dont have much of a choice. Like Drake.

Characters in the same 'spectrum' of Kratos have a better chance of having cool looking supers. Dante, for one.

I wish they had gone with Drake's desert outfit.
Agree, at least it wasn't the UC 1 or the basic UC 3 design.

could have also gone for

I wish they had gone with Drake's desert outfit. One of the very few complaints I actually have for this game. At least we won't have to wait too long for new reveals. It'll probably be viral too, not just at evo. Let's go for 4 this time damnit.

I'd be surprised if that wasn't his alt, if they end up having alts.

The Delta Big Daddy could be a good model swap for BD too. I don't think he'd change the hitbox or mess with animations too much, though his body type is slightly different.

You said it yourself, there are characters who barely have material left. Keep in mind that the move set up goes like this:

[]
[] + < or >
[] + \/
[] + /\

/\
/\ + < or >
/\ + \/
/\ + /\

O
O + < or >
O + \/
O + /\

They can be done in the air as well. Don't for get the side, up and down throws too, maybe a running attack as well. There will definitely be some characters that share moves, but regardless, it looks pretty hefty. Better than that Turtles Smash Up trash, holy shit that sucked.

those are for normal attacks right? I have no doubt that everyones normal attack would be 'okay' looking- or expected to be exact. drake will use guns. kratos will use his weapons, etc.

but what I'm saying is that the supers of some look boring. they dont really have the feel of a 'super' ie, drake and radek's (i think) level 1. Iunno. Again, could just be me nitpicking. Haha!

IIRC direction + button is a special move and when you add things up, the "about two dozen attacks" story sounds about right. If this game were a traditional versus fighter, then they could go wild with cutscene supers for non-ridiculous characters like Drake, but this doesn't seem like the type of game suitable for that. I assume the reason the level 1 and 2 supers are so short is to keep the game fast paced.

This game seriously needs more color. :|

and also, we could use a better announcer... "READY"..."FIGHT." This game is going the distance to try to please Playstation fans, characters, weapons and mash-up levels. it'd be cool to have the announcer be a playstation character (or yes, KB) and say something relative to the level. Something like... (in the Hades/Patapon level) "Alright fighters, watch out for Hades." or some cheesy crap like that.

The people who played it says it's full of color. Idk why some videos make the colors look dull but I'm going off of impressions and they say the colors "pop"

Why not Aveline? They obviously need more females and she looks honestly more interesting than the other assassins we've seen.

More color/less saturation: Yes

Announcer spouting obvious and irrelevant stuff that is happening on the screen in a cheesy manner: NOPE

any links i can read that says that? :)

thats good news then! But hey, IF the game is really dull in colors, I'm sure the vitas OLED screen will help make it better to some extent. haha.

I don't think that particular video is a great representation, I've seen videos where it looks way better.

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.

Everything about this game's overarching framework (logo, select screen, in-game HUD, announcer) seems rather dull/generic.

However, I feel the characters themselves (move set + personality) have been treated exceptionally well. That's where SuperBot nails it.

It was earlier throughout this thread. A few guys mentioned how it looks great in person. The E3 walkthrough video is looks great from off screen.

I'd rather them fix up that generic title screen and menu. Looks like some indie game.

Drake supers:
Level 1 - Propane Tank: Drake tosses a tank and shoots it for a small area-of-effect explosion. Timing and positioning is key on this, as it's very easy to miss your mark or fire too late.
Level 2 - Ancient Pillar: Drake summons an ancient pillar that crumbles across the screen. It has a very small range, but deals a lot of damage.
Level 3 - Weird Zombie Thing: Drake turns fighters into zombies, whom he then can one-hit-kill with a golden gun. Players can still move, but only at a zombie's pace.

Big Daddy supers:
Level 1 - Syringe Attack: A Little Sister comes out and stabs an enemy with her giant syringe.
Level 2 - Rage: Big Daddy lights up red and goes into berserk mode, dealing extra damage.
Level 3 - Flood: The stage floods, bringing players to a standstill while Big Daddy moves and attacks fluidly.

yeah. HUD, menu, etc look extremely dull. But its probably cause its not done yet. So there's still chances of that being fixed. :D

haha. guess its just me who'd find it a bit fun. :p

I hope the next round of character reveals will reignite my interest in this game, because the last round did a good job of damaging it. I want to see some truly classic PS-related characters unveiled next.

I played PBR several times at E3 but still need more playtime to make final judgments. I played as Sly, Fat Princess, Kratos, Radec, and Sweet Tooth. Kratos is the easiest to pick up and play by far. I think I favor Radec at the moment because his longer range opens up more options.

So far, I think my main concern is every character feels sorta the same. There's no extremely slow or fast characters. All characters seem to have some mid range attacks and up close attacks, and several have mines/traps. One thing I love about Smash is that different characters play VERY differently, and so far I haven't found that to be the case in PBR. There's only a few items in their E3 builds and they don't change things up a whole lot.

Going to hold my judgment on the super move mechanic until I'm more familiar with each character's supers and can learn how to react to them

How did the controls feel? Do you get a sense of impact when you're attacking characters? What are the major differences between the 3 attack buttons and did you try doing the down and up variations? Please, any info would be appreciated. I wish I weren't on the other side of the planet, I definitely would have lined up for it. :(

Do moves change in the air?
