Why do western devs make female characters uglier in their games?

its a cultural thing, its much more normal in asian country to portray females that way, they simply dont perceive female beauty as something that should reflect reality or something offensive toward women, and like it or not modern feminist ideas are heavly implemented in western studios

also asian devs are simply better at modeling while western devs are better at overall systems

For comparision black female protag from microsfot studio, compulsion games(likely about to be closed), game that flopped beyond belief almost concord style(similar sales but didnt have that high of a budget obviously):

And no, protag was offputing af, so far from allright.
Devs didnt give a damn about sales, if they did we would get at the very least new james bond lvl beauty, still well below what japanese or korean devs can cook but at least not an uggo :)

I for one would prefer that studio to exist, but for that their game had to appeal to ppl who buy games at launch, aka straigh males, which obviously wasnt the case.
And for game to appeal to males its protag has to be either masculine manly guy(even crash bandicoot had those traits back in mid 90s, and he wasnt even a human) or 2nd choice- a hottie, no 3rd option, sorry, it is what it is :)

Hard truth is-If bayonetta looked like ugly fat wrinkled granny dressed like hobo beggar even if rest of the game was identical to what it was, game wouldnt even be greenlit, not to mention getting 2(likely soon 3) sequels and becoming worldwide beloved IP :)

Maybe they are as brainwashed as their daughter and think it's brave and stunning. Too many people think they are good if they go with the mainstream idea of what is right and wrong. Left and progressive > good person. Right and conservative > evil incarnate

It's infuriating what is happening and that there are still people either defending this bullshit or closing their eyes. You have to be pretty dumb or indoctrinated to not realise that these are not normal/healthy behaviours for a human being, living in modern civilization or not. As kids we pretended to be ninja turtles or transformers and it was fun. Along the way, we lost (too much) of that child in us, I agree with that. But adult people pretending/thinking they are what they are not, be that the other gender, a wolf, a horse or whatever... I really don't know what to call it other than brain disease. And I'm not talking about a physical disease, chemical imbalance, I'm talking about warped minds, societal illness spreading through gullible people... One sounds like a religious zealot talking about these things, but what can you do?

The ugliness shields developers from their boogie man: patriarchy. Remember Anita Sarkesian bitching about bayonetta because she is too sexy, sassy, and kicks ass? Eventhough Anita herself never plays any video games. Instead, she wants female protagonist to be ambiguous, bland boring, fully clothed or its just plain misogynistic and sexist, omitting the fact that the lead character was created by a japanese female video game developer. Never mind male characters who are shirtless in fighting games-that's definitely not sexist and misandrist. You never hear men complaining that a male protagonist is too muscular, jacked, good looking. Male Pencil neck geeks/nerd gamers or even fat video gamers have never complained once that a hot guy like chris redfield or leon are too sexy in residents evil, or the gears of war characters look like a bunch of thick necked juice heads (it might be too much toxic masculinity for their tastes). If anything, male video gamers embody the male protagonist while playing a video game because they can let go and ENJOY ALL THE FANTASY aspects of a video game: killing zombies, and aliens, saving the world from oblivion.

Narcissistic Western Victim Complex not so good looking female Video gamers geeks need the fascist misguided bigoted feminist ideology to shit on video games because they are too insecure and are unable to let go of their own shortcommings in looks to enjoy the fucking world of make believe and fantasy and they are taking it out on MEN..

You will never have a thread of male characters/protagonists being too ugly or good looking because men just dont give a fuck, nor will women vouch for men for the video game industry being too sexist against men because the male characters in video games are not representative of the average looking men that enjoy video games.

For this new God of War game, its fine to create female character that is ugly, or any video game where the female protagonist is fat, ugly or whatever does not meet the standard of female beauty as long as the game is enjoyable: good story line, great graphics, immersive gameplay, etc. But western developers need to stop fearing making female characters too sexy because of these insecure narcissistic western victim complex female video gamers who adhere to a fascist misguided western feminist ideology. How dare they create good looking female protagonist that men like and enjoy because it makes them feel uncomfortable and insecure about themselves! It's definitely sexist, misogynistic and part of the patriarchy that oppresses women!
