The Odyssey (2026) Trailer

It just keeps getting worse somehow

Such revisionist history. He already had Memento, Batman Begins, and The Prestige before 2008. He was already nominated for an oscar for Memento, which put him on the map. The Dark Knight was pretty much the most anticipated movie of 2008 BECAUSE Nolan had made a name for himself by then with Batman Begins pretty much reviving Batman movies.

Now to mention you have it so backwards - to say he got "lucky" with Heath Ledger, when everyone was calling it horrible casting. Ledger was cast because Nolan believed in him when everyone else didn't.

Yup I remember people not being down on Ledger Joker at first before the movie came out

They're drip-feeding controversial info to demoralize the public so we're pliable and acquiescent for the release.

Hey, this is just like my UFO disclosures!

It just keeps getting worse somehow

Looks like early 90s CGI with those dull reflections on the metal.
Also kudos* for using one of the less iconic scenes from a story full of iconic scenes for the movie poster, lol.

*actually an ancient Greek word that's used in the Odyssey, the Sirens say it referring to Odysseus

Really? The practical effects look like the T-1000? And you sure those aren't practical suits of armor?

I know this movie is getting a lot of internet hate before it's even released, but the dog piling of simple photos is getting silly. I completely understand the issue with the casting because of the current hypocrisy it reveals. But I don't understand people whining and moaning that everything doesn't look periodically accurate given how many different takes on this story there is. And those kinds of attempts have already been done. Nolan is not required to make a perfect recreation of the time and text. It's just an adaptation.

Bizarre hysteria and anger around this movie before it's even released. And that's all it is. A movie.

No, I'm not.
Doesn't make their look any less dull and uninspiring, or the image a better fit for the movie. That image is as generic as they get. It could be about a couple dozen run-of-the-mill fantasy stories.

All the ticketing websites crashed just for additional screenings of The Odyssey being released next month. Safe to say this isn't going to bomb.

It's like buying tickets to watch a train wreck. People are fascinated to see what kind of disaster will come out of this. And in an age of social media, people like to say and show that they were there when it happened.
Asides from this, I doubt it will have any future cultural relevance.

I don't think most of people though this isn't going to bomb. Its a similar case of Harry Potter, despite heavy criticisms of Snape I don't think it will stop people from watching(I still gonna watch it for instance). I guess its a strategy from some people as a defense mechanism or something to throw at the criticism, not even your typical youtube content creators ever though its gonna be a flop despite being heavly against the casting (the who made that parody video about Nolan cast also didnt think so, also mocking the point in specific).

Now, Super-girl and Mandalorian on the other hand were clearly bombs right from the start. Same with He-man for some extent.

Nah, it's an enormous event film.

most people don't care about the manufactured 'outrage' surrounding this film. its a new Nolan IMAX movie, people will eat this shit up. And rightfully so.

While the movie will make good numbers in the first few days or even the first week, will it make good numbers in the second week (after people that have seen it begin to voice their opinions)?
Remember the movie have a production budget of 250 millions + unknown marketing budget.

The initial tickets sold out one year in advance. The newly released tickets 1.5 months out are mostly gone for opening weekend and selling out for subsequent weekends, especially in premium formats. This is unusual even for billion dollar WW gross films.

AMC still has a 30 minute online queue to access their ticketing system three hours later.

Word of mouth would have to be shockingly terrible for it to underperform. Audiences trust Nolan.

Not sure if someone posted earlier, but Variety confirms R rating, which is interesting given the mostly PG-13 catalogue of Chris Nolan films. At least this won't be pulling punches.
Edit: Link

But, also, this:

Neimoidian exclaims, "This is getting out of hand."

In any event, I'll be seeing this film - whatever it turns out to be - in IMAX, but not buying the popcorn bucket. A little too much hate being vented in this place, it seems...for what purpose? I don't know. The memes/jokes I guess? The face that launched...seven ships.

Despite the odd casting, I'm confident this will not suck. I'm looking up crow recipes in the event it does.

I've been laughing at the memes but I still think this will be pretty good. Already got tickets to see it in 70mm IMAX.

How do you know what people's opinion of the film will be?

That popcorn bucket is pretty sick tbh

well well. The Nolan Nerds are still thirsty eh.

I have a broski at the local Cineworld that usually gets me and a few friends in for early shows. Can't wait!

For as much we can complain, you would have to be completely ignorant about movies if you think this is gonna flop.

It's gonna do bonkers numbers.

Yeah yeah nawww... I'm not negotiating. I'll go to a screening if I'm paid $200. I ain't doin' that shit for just one Benjamin post COVIDflation.

What an affront to western civilization, hope this ends Nolan's career.

Lupita is also a 2/10 on a good day. Scared 1000 ships away. Zendaya a solid 3 if you are into masculine features

2/10? I'm sorry but this woman is a total babe! Her face makes up for the lack of boobs

Lupita is quite attractive but casting her as Helen of Troy is pure rage bait (and was done to score woke points). There are no historical or biological reasons how Helen of Troy could be a black woman (and we know she wasn't based on Homers work).

Odyssey has fantastical elements in it but it's still set in the real world, it's not Lord of The Rings or GOT.

There's no real evidence Helen of Troy was a real historical figure. The Odyssey is basically pure fantasy.

There is no evidence Mwindo - a hero from the epic tale told by the Nyanga people in the Congo - was a real historical figure.

His tale is pure fantasy.

Would it make sense for us to cast a white or asian actor as this figure in an adaptation? He wasn't real and it is fantasy after all.

Homer described her as white, if she was black in Ancient Greece (very, very rare sight) I bet he would write about it.

Odyssey is set in Greece and modern day Turkey, it's not Middle Earth or Westeros. We know what ethnic groups lived there few thousand years ago.

And that's fine, it's just not a real historical account. Homer did not know if Helen of Troy existed during the Bronze Age, he also didn't know anything but the legends told about the events of that time or anything else. It's a fantasy story/legend.

Look I'm not a big supporter of making Helen of Troy black, but we are talking about a dude from London re-telling a Greek fantasy story. It's not that big of a deal.

Just like I don't think it's a big deal Jake Gyllenhal played the lead in Prince of Persia.

The Odyssey is part of Greek mythology, that not the same as fantasy, mythology is the creation of stories based around a people's culture to better understand the world around them. It's pretty disingenuous of people to pull the "She could have been black, you don't know she wasn't" BS, the greek poets wouldn't have been creating stories based around foreigners to represent their culture and people.

Well nobody said what you just quoted. I was merely pointing out that Helen of Troy wasn't black or white, she wasn't real lol

Mythology is more accurate, I appreciate the correction. Thing is The Odyssey also established a lot of fantasy tropes.

She's described as white, if you're not trying to argue against that then bringing up her being a narrative creation has no point.
Maybe read the content of my posts and don't invent things I didn't say. Someone used the term "historical" in reference to Helen of Troy, I was merely pointing out that she's not a historical figure.

It's not a big deal to you but you had this example on deck ready to go
btrzb7PQhh2FeH7Y.gif

And for the record, yes this was also stupid back in the day, alot of people said it was stupid and made fun of it.............just like this casting decision is also stupid.

Had this on deck ready to go?

Do you mean I have a brain, I have memories?

Yes I do in fact have a brain and memories.
Got a real master of deflecting here huh, maybe stop responding to people with dumb shit like, "She's just fantasy" if you're going to insult and move the goalpost every time someone calls you out.

Deflecting from what? Your bizarre accusation I "had something on deck?"

Maybe make a point without some agenda bullshit.

It's my opinion none of this is a big deal.
