If a person's enjoyment of a franchise is significantly motivated by the titular character the entire franchise revolved around until now, it would be perfectly reasonable to not be interested in an entry which minimises that character.

I'd be with you if say people didn't glaze Gears 5 (including Bojji himself), or MGS2, or Alan Wake 2, or The legend of zelda: echoes of wisdom, etc etc. Most of them are dead silent on those.

It's not close at all, you do know how these work right? They only record people who have the app then extrapolate all data based on that. The problem is, many people who have that app have it because they are likely to dislike something and so they want to see how many others disliked it also.

You can find any article online, most claim it is inaccurate. It has around 6 mil users on Chrome store page. YouTube has 2 billion users. It's around 0.4- 0.5% of youtubes userbase. It's highly inaccurate

Do you think there wasn't a push for live service back then too? There was, some just did it earlier with a lot of people actually embracing it instead until a narrative was born again for a specific company.

Their last really good SP game was Gears 5.

I play Gears 5 in co-op with my friend right now (PC) and game has phenomenal HDR, looks absolutely mind blowing.

Yeah, the backlash from Yotei didn't come from the initial announcement. It was the weeks and months following when people dug up old tweets and pictures of the actress. Nobody can deny that Yotei had one of the biggest hate campaigns in recent years. Every trailer leading up to release got ratio'd. And it didn't do anything to the games success

Gears 5 is a solid game with really good graphics and HDR. I originally completed it in 2019 and didn't like the approach at all, but story in those games is much less important than in recent GOW games, it's mostly just shooting stuff.

I shit on Forza 6 woke idiocy and fable woke idiocy, and all other woke idiocy. Sony is just one of the most woke companies right now, they push this shit like crazy.

Franchises can tell stories from the POV of any character in said universe. Its called expanding the lore.

Laufey is the mother of Loki (from myths). I think this name was mentioned in GOW2018 and/or Ragnarok.

In 2019 no one was thinking about woke stuff in games, not many games were like that so no one thought that at some point EVERY western game will be like this. GOW5 was a curiosity at the time.

I'm not really a big fan of that franchise so I don't know what else I can tell you, they are solid shooters (with woke elements in the latest installments).

What do you mean no? It's based on only the people who have the app and as mentioned many of those are more likely to dislike thinks then go on forums saying oooh look how many dislikes there are.

If a video has, let's say 1 million views and 200k likes and let's say 1000 people have the app and 500 of those click dislike, the app will then show that there has been 100k dislikes. It's not a true picture. I mean, heck, you could have just 2 people with the app and one clicked dislike and it would show 100k dislikes.

What you should be looking at is the number of views compared to likes, no third party apps involved to get a better picture of how many like it rather than how many dislikes it, then compare that to other games.

I think it's rarely the so-called online 'hate campaign' doing the heavy lifting (though every little helps, right?), it is more often just a matter of normal people (not obsessives like us) briefly glancing at what is being marketed to them and simply not finding it appealing.

For a lot of the market that entire process from awareness of the game existing, to consideration, to decision probably takes all of 30 seconds.

It's still only around 1-1.3% of YouTube viewers so while not insignificant it is relatively low. It's a guesstimate, now if you are happy with that then that's fine, I just don't trust it as being accurate. Heck, it may be more than a 2:1 ratio, we don't know

This Start Screen (which I havent seen uncompressed) is so far the least impressive one in the series.

The best is still the God of War 3 one when you start a new game.
That shit blew me away, from that screen straight into realizing ohh shit thats his game model.....to ohh shit this is one of if not the hardest openings to a video game ever.

Me thinks im just getting jaded with age but I really wanna recapute that feeling of NOT believe im watching something prerendered and it goes into gameplay straight.
Honorable mention to Lost Odyssey for it actually being a damn transition.

The argument some are using that anything with a female protagonist regardless of context will get hated on is easily dismissed by looking at other recent similar games.

A year ago, at a state of play we got the announcement of a new action adventure game with DMC inspired combat featuring a female character: Tides of Annihilation.

We don't hate female characters. We are just tired of Sony replacing all their iconic characters with strong independent women, the samey cinematic formula where "20 minutes of gameplay" is like 15 minutes of cutscenes and slowly walking around, and the unappealing main character designs. She had plenty of setup in previous games. She had a mythos built around her based on the premise of the entire 2 games since the reboot. She was a character that had passed away but even then she was central to the game and had stories of her told through Mimir too. You can see Cory even mention this build up of her mythos in 2020


Just because you think she hasn't "earned the mantle" whatever that means, it doesn't make it so. I bet even if Atreus was the character you would still say the same thing. There would be no way for anybody to earn anything in your eyes.
