Depends on the games. The shilling for these things will be at unbearable levels to try to justify the price as well especially if the launch line ups aren't impressing.

Dual Income No Kids But I got New Console!
I love the DINK life. The NK might change for me in a couple years but for now, DINK is amazing.

Anyway, nah I'm personally not skipping or delaying. Great job, cost isn't an issue. I'm more worried about other people skipping and what that'll mean for the future of the AAA industry.

With all the options for entertainment people have now, maybe we lose another big chunk next-gen to phones, social media, streaming, and established GAAS like Roblox. I actually think that's inevitable. Gen Z isn't growing up playing the type of games that we played at that age. They're not gonna hit their 30s and start playing stuff like Elden Ring. AAA is gonna be even more fucked next-gen. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the last traditional gen.

Since I've got the PS5 Pro, I'll wait and see. I really need to see the justification to purchase at launch.

That being said, the way that prices have increased this generation, jumping in day one or close to might not be the worst idea. Again, I'll wait and see.

PS6 will probably be first time i don't buy a console at launch. I'm just going to stick with PC.
I could be tempted if it gets a few exclusives i cant resist/wait for PC version.

There have not been enough timely exclusives to make it worth it. Consolidating to x86 made the launches worse as they can rely on old games and patches.

This will be the first gen I'm not there day 1

Why would you wait and risk having to pay more? You'll have an inferior experience for a number of years for more money. Every Playstation Day 1. The only one that felt pricey in terms of value early on was the PS3.

Skipping for sure.
Looking at the specs im not impressed.

NovaLake + RTX60 and im good.
Ive been holding on to LGA1700 for way too long..............tis time to move forward.

I doubt it. I'll do what I have done the last 2 gens. by all the consoles but play mainly on pc and what ever games Nintendo puts out.

When the next sociopath from Harvard or whatever causes global DRAM shortages you'll be glad you'd bought your PS6 on launch. If the current shortages are even gone by then, that is.

We're definitely going to.

Some young Gen Z, but it's Gen Alpha that's the concern. The oldest is around 16. They're playing Roblox/Fortnite/Minecraft. They have 0 connection to lot of the legacy franchises that are being remade over and and over again and getting sequels every other year.

That's also why new IPs are important.

I don't want to miss out on the early bird launch prices.

Time of cheep consoles is over & I will jus get new PC & stay in PC land.
Maybe will be a more costly but will be a win in long run.

I've got a decent PC, no need for new consoles I'm leaning. I got a PS5 eventually last time around after saying I wouldn't and it just sits there for years now gathering dust, along with the Series X to a lesser
degree and the Switch to lesser than that. Almost all of my game time is on Steam Deck or my desktop PC these days, but I still like the consoles for the ease of co-op play in general, though PC is nearly as good in that regard these days and I'm not going to buy a PS or Xbox for co-op play.....might get a Switch 2 at some point but my daughter doesn't care at all about it, so maybe I shouldn't.

My ultimate answer is that I'm leaning towards no as of right now. It would require a hell of a value proposition to tempt me otherwise, and I've got a feeling the next generation will be known for much in history, but value won't be one of the notable points.

Current gen was/is one to sitout, barely any ps5 exclusives and 0 xbox exclusives, with ps6 backwards compatible and likely having some boost mode on top it will be actually perfect time to jump in for ppl who skipped current/terrible console gen like myself and just stuck to pc this time :)
With ps6 at launch i will have access to all ps5 exclusives with boostmode backwards compatibility on top of having access to future xgen/ps6 exclusives that might actually skip pc this time :)

With cross generation support (and soon to be cross-cross-generation support), I see no reason to rush in. I could still be on a PS4 and not have missed much this generation. And maybe a few years after launch the AI hardware crisis would have cooled its' tits and we could see price drops again.

PS5 Pro is actually my last console; I won't be buying any more after this. I'll be going retro and playing games on my laptop.

The next purchase I will make will be a solid gaming PC once I feel like mine is past it's prime.. I've already decided against getting a console next gen.
There may come a time when the price gets too get too pass up but that will be years into the generation.

I've purchased and will continue to purchase every major console at launch. I'll also always have a gaming PC. Small shifts in pricing won't change that.

I wasn't too interested before and you can tell the way pricing is going, even the base model PS6 is going to be over $1,000 here in Canada. So yeah, not happening. I'll stick to Nintendo and Steam Deck, maybe save up for a Steam Deck 2 if that happens in the next few years and isn't prohibitively expensive (lol).

Day 1. I like new stuff and I'll get my moneys worth.

The only question is if I get both Sony and Microsoft offerings or just one due to lack of time. If anything Nintendos game output should be ramping up by then and I won't have time for both new consoles.

If Xbox has a PC hybrid that can play games from steam on it I might just get that tbh.

I started as a console gamer before our family got our first PC when I was 13/14. Then I was a PC + console gamer, because there were games on PC that weren't on console and vice versa. I've wanted to keep doing that as each generation has passed, but I feel like consoles are pushing me further and further away. Primarily because of the lack of exclusives that interest me, so it makes getting a console is just not as appealing as it used to be.

My PS5 was a gift from friends at my last job. I was SO happy to have one even if just for Demon's Souls. But the reality is if they didn't gift one to me, I probably never would've bought one. Just because of the cost and the amount of launch titles that interested me. Now we're at the point where the next gen is already on the horizon, it feels too soon to me.

Between lacking exclusives and soaring prices, I genuinely feel like there's no reason to even bother. I'll just stick to my PC as long as I possibly can, which thankfully won't need any wild updates anytime soon either.

Assuming the PS6 is under $800 at launch here in Australia, I will definitely be getting it at launch. Hell, even if the next Xbox is reasonably priced for what it includes, I'd consider that as well. I LOVE new consoles and don't want them to die so I will support in any way I can.

I have a pretty decent PC and Sony hasn't produced a game I am interested in since Astrobot. I doubt I am going to be interested in Spider-Man 3, Wolverine, Intergalactic or next God of War considering how SP2 and GoW 2 turned out.

So probably going to sit next console gen out unless there is a miracle. I would rather plow that money into Jensen's jacket fund and get a 6080 or whatnot.

Nope. Launch games for PS5 where mostly weak and cross gen. Best one was Demons Souls. Then cross gen lasted forever.

Bloodborne might of convinced me. But it ain't happening. So I'll stick with my Pro til it's actually worth it.

Be the first time I haven't bought at least one next gen console on the date it releases. Depending on PC part prices will look at building a PC cause Sonys output has turned to shit anyway.

You're right, it's gen alpha. I got em mixed up. They're growing up on TikTok, Roblox, and frame-mogging, not Metal Gear Solid.

I might hold out for awhile. Since the PS5 seems to not have many exclusives maybe Sony is planning to have a good release schedule for PS6 but when the PS5 launched they had showed off great games but most slipped to 21/22 launches I'm hoping that doesn't happen again. I felt like I used my PS5 the first couple of years as a PS4 machine.

Im happy with my pro till at least 2028. Would need a big exclusive at launch for me to be there day1. I really dont feel like i need more power yet tbh

Yes, this time around I didn't play as much of PS5 and spent more time on PC.

Along with a peppering of new games to try out I still have my backlog to dig up so I'll be good for a few years.

If anything, I'll use the money to grab another 32" OLED or something, we'll see.

Console pricing right now and if it tracks the same in the future is a no go from me considering time spent.

People are gonna sit out the launch and wait for the prices to go up before buying?
